Scott the problem with getting Minn football players, so many of them are also good hockey players and stay with that sport.

The Gophers keep losing games, and now they're losing players, too.        Defensive tackle Brandon Kirksey has been suspended for Saturday's game at Michigan State for unspecified reasons, Minnesota coach Jeff Horton said Tuesday. But Kirksey -- a team captain -- has already met with Horton, and th
Brandon Kirksey
e coach said he expects Kirksey to return to action Nov. 14 at Illinois.

Michael Carter and Ra'Shede Hageman, on the other hand, probably won't play again this season, after Horton suspended them "so they can focus on academics."
Hageman, a redshirt freshman who backed up Kirksey at defensive tackle, appeared in eight games this season and made five tackles, while Carter, a sophomore cornerback, had two interceptions and 24 tackles in seven games.
Senior offensive linemen Matt Carufel and Dom Alford, meanwhile, have been sidelined by knee injuries and will not play, leaving the Gophers with six healthy offensive linemen to cover five positions, Horton said. But it's possible that both players could still return this year, the coach added.

Good article on the coach search

http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/106657353.html?elr=KArksUUUoDEy3LGDiO7aiU

But they mention Jeff Jagodzinski as a possibility. Yes he did a nice job his 1 year at Boston College but he was fired because he interviewed for new job after 1st year. That sends up the red flag to me that he would do that again if he puts this team on the winning tract and we want someone that loves it here and wants to stay here

Looks like both lines are hurting this week.  The Offensive line has just 6 players, if they need a seventh it's TE Curtis Hughes.  The Defensive line is missing Kirksey, Hageman, and Hahn.  In fact, there is a rumor that they will pull the redshirt year from Josh Tauaefa for the remaining 3 games (although I though you could play 3 games and keep the redshirt?).

Kirksey's suspension doesn't sound like a big problem to me.  At least he seem to care about winning and has a passion for the game.

Hey Fargo, Jagodzinski was actually at Boston College for 2 years (if it really matters) and posted a 20-8 record.  To me, your red flag almost seems like a GOOD thing.  Lets get a winning program first and worry about losing the coach later.  I'm sure it would take him (or nearly anyone) more than 2 years to do that here.  What about the Houston coach?  Doesn't it seem like his teams have given up a lot of points over the past few years?   Fulmer may have been a good choice but it looks like he backed out.

Karl the Houston coach runs a spread offense and I'm not sure how successful that would be in the Big 10. Purdue had some success but still the Mich, Ohio St, Penn St etc were better teams. That is like I hear that the Navy and AF coach are onthe list and will their systems be successful in the Big 10. If they would, why hasn't other teams tried them?

Good article on the search in paper today and Maturi mentions he is surprised and some of the coaches on the list. I wish it would be shared

I heard about Sumlin on the radio. They said he has coordinated or head coached multiple offenses. He has basically tailored his offenses to his recruiting area.

As far as Fullmer, that is no great loss. His program at Tennessee was in decline.

Agreed about Fulmer.  His big contribution to CFB was his cameo in the Blind Side.

Semi-winnable game w/ Gray at QB. Did you see him fight for that 1st down run? The guy is a player. 1 million times more exciting watching him run the offense compared to Weber. I have enough faith in Horton that he will bench Weber in favor of Gray next week.

Defense has played OK today. Offense was embarrassing under Weber. Worst DI offense I've ever seen.

Indiana has a chance to upset Iowa.........................and the receiver drops a fairly easy catch in the endzone. Oops.

Still, at least this Indiana team shows heart. The Gophers show none.

You know what's really a slap in the face? The head MF'er gets shit canned. His offensive Cord takes over. 5th year man, 4 year starter continues to play and you can't play offense to save your job/life. It's utterly pathetic.

Under the circumstances of this team you would expect to get beat. But, by the token of 35-30 or some shit like that.

Another note, HTF is Cosgrove coaching? I mean, seriously. That guy is a "name" in football and I'm serious when I say this. I played about 2 years of orginized football (soccer aft that, shove it bitches ). I could have had some really big yardage given the holes that MST had today. They were Michael Strahan tooth gaping.

i was totally unimpressed with Gray at QB. He had 1 decent pass and it was dropped. The other 2 were just drop off and my grandmother could have made them. Only thing Gray brings is his running as he is a poor passer

Jim there is a big difference between just getting put into the game and actually being part of the game planning all week. They spend all year transitioning him to receiver and then throw him cold at QB. What would you expect?

They said during the game they put a couple of packages together for him this week. That is game planning. It looked like they didn't game plan for him to be involved in the receiving game as he had 1 pass to him

So they put a couple of packages in 2nd to the last week season . Big whoop. There is no way you can assess him as a QB based that.

But all you have to do is look back to last year and when he got in as QB he ran most of the time and when he did pass it was terrible. If he could pass I think he would get more time as he is a better overall athlete

Weber passed chuck long for B10 yardage/career. Whoop de do

It'll be pretty in the record books, but the end result? Kid cannot consistently QB an offense.

It will be interesting to see what the new coach does next year.  May well depend on what type of offense he installs, but regardless we will be very green at the QB position.  I'd probably bring in a JuCo kid and have a 4 way QB competition with the new guy, Gray, Alipate, and Parrish.  Wouldn't think Lueck gets included and Pride probably switches positions (if he hasn't already).  If Gray doesn't win the starting spot, he immediately goes to #1 WR.
