Mike Williams' sense of history. The Seahawks' leading receiver hadn't received a franchise history lesson from team officials before tipping his cap to Hall of Famer Steve Largent following a recent performance. Williams has 35 catches in his past five games, one short of Largent's top five-game stretch. Twelve catches against the Saints would give Williams 37 in his past five despite one- and two-catch games along the way. Cris Carter was the last NFL player to catch at least 12 passes against the Saints, in 1995.

Gained new respect for Peyton Manning

He stood tall in his press conference and shouldered the blame.

Not once did he throw his receivers under the bus

Even if the Cowboys win out, they probably don't have a chance to make the playoffs. 7 losses in the NFC this year won't get it done unless you are in the West.

So why is Jerry Jones rushing Romo back?

Does he want another Charles Rogers?

O

If someone wants McNabb they can trade for him and re-work his contract depending upon future cap rules.

Why trade instead of waiting for him to be cut?

1. Make sure you get him
2. No bidding war
3. Get him in early for all OTAs
4. Have QB position set before draft

Remember, Shanahan could screw him over by cutting him late after teams have set their QB rosters.

When is the due date on that $10M bonus?

The trade scenario does at least give McNabb control over where he wants to go, as he can pick and choose who he will renegotiate his contract with.

And the way things are looking now, Minnesota may not be one of the spots he will want to come too. It's kind of a Catch 22. It's likely that we will only be running the Philly (KA) offense if Childress is here, but then Childress will be here.

I wonder if Childress is trying to leverage getting McNabb into another season here?

There have been conflicting reports on when the bonus is due. I am not sure.

Was fun to watch two fantastic QBs carve up the opponent today.
Brady was incredible, put up a perfect QB rating for the second time in his career, and Brees pulled a win out of a game they had no business winning.
That last drive by NO was a thing of beauty, huge, pressure-packed, perfect throws into tight coverages for almost the entire length of the field, to win the game.
Its almost impossible to play good defense when those two are "on".
They see things no one else sees, and their minds slow the game down to them, and they make the tough plays look easy.

Carson Palmer was absolutely brutal last night. Was he benched? he threw INTs, missed wide open receivers, couldn't move the team - all the while with some very talented players around him. The double standard is amazing.

He is one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL. He has never even won one single playoff game. Yet he is considered some elite QB. If he was Black he would have been benched long ago. Seriously, have you ever seen a Black QB allowed to go to 2-9 without getting benched?

He also has a habit of throwing a few garbage time TDs that help make his overall numbers look a little more respectable. But he's just brutal when the games matter.

I hate to say this, but there was talk on radio today that if Cinci goes for a QB in draft they might cut Palmer loose for the Vikings to possibly go after. Don't like that thinking

I could see that happening Fargo

Perhaps in a traditional West Coast Offense Palmer can still play. He was ok on the 10 yard throws. His deep ball is completely gone though and he has terrible decision making.

I see him as washed up at an early age.

Agree David - they got smoked by the Pats and the threw garbage TDs against a prevent to make it look close.

We have no idea what kind of offense we will see next year

As Paul Kuharsky of the AFC South blog reports, the Jacksonville Jaguars are in similar shape to the New York Giants at left tackle heading into Sunday's game. Starting left tackle Eugene Monroe has been ruled out with a concussion, so that leaves undrafted rookie Kevin Haslam and the immortal Guy Whimper as his potential replacements.

Guy Whimper????

What a name for a football player!

Every thing about this story is so stupid because it should have been avoided. Why do you employ the guy who got the Patriots in so much trouble?

quote:

Broncos, McDaniels fined $50K each

Associated Press
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The NFL fined the Denver Broncos and coach Josh McDaniels $50,000 each because the team's video operations director broke league rules by filming a San Francisco 49ers practice in London last month.

The NFL investigation determined that Steve Scarnecchia took the six-minute video of the walkthrough and presented it that day to McDaniels. The coach declined to view it.

But the NFL fined both the coach and team because the matter was not promptly reported, as required by league policy.

I apologize for not promptly reporting the improper conduct of our video director before our game against the 49ers in London. The actions of this individual are in no way representative of the values and integrity held by myself, our players and coaches, and the entire Denver Broncos organization.

-- Broncos coach Josh McDaniels

Scarnecchia was fired by the Broncos and notified by commissioner Roger Goodell that as a repeat violator of league rules regarding integrity he faces a hearing to determine if he will be banned from the NFL.

The NFL was to discuss the situation in a conference call Saturday. McDaniels was to speak to the media in the afternoon at the team complex.

"I apologize for not promptly reporting the improper conduct of our video director before our game against the 49ers in London," McDaniels said in a statement. "The actions of this individual are in no way representative of the values and integrity held by myself, our players and coaches, and the entire Denver Broncos organization.

"I understand the punishment from the National Football League and support its commitment to the integrity of the game. We have addressed the situation internally to assure that nothing like this happens again."

The investigation concerned practices at Wembley Stadium on Oct. 30, the day before the 49ers' 24-16 win over the Broncos. It was the only time the teams worked out on the same field while in London.

Scarnecchia and McDaniels previously worked for the New England Patriots, who were found to have videotaped New York Jets coaches sending in signals during a game four years ago in a scandal dubbed Spygate. The NFL bans such videotaping and issued $750,000 in fines against the Patriots and coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots also were stripped of their 2008 first-round draft pick.

I didn't think it was possible for me to like Andre Johnson more, but I do.

Finnegan is a bitch and one of the dirtiest players in the league, like the rest of the Titans' team.

And the way he apologized afterwards was incredibly classy. Most guys in the league wouldn't do that in the manner in which he did it, or so quickly.

Yep, that was a man (Johnson) taking care of bidness.
Finnegan latched on to a whole handful of trouble that coulda killed him.
And the apology from Johnson to teammates and fans and ownership was spot-on and classy, like you say.
There is a very clear code of conduct and you can respect guys who lose control, but then do their best to rectify things asap.

Yep, Scott. Agreed.

For the record, Andre Johnson is one of my very favorite players. He's probably the best WR in the entire NFL IMO. Along with Calvin and Fitz (still).

I liken it to Mauer/AJ though. I imagine I'd feel much the same way if Mauer took out AJ with a punch.

NO matter what, Gooddell is way off on the fine system.

How do Finnegan and Johnson only get fined $25,000 for fistfights while Asante Samuel gets $40,000 for a tackle where he led with his shoulder?

Roger has to go

My pre-season SB picks were Altanta and Baltimore

ATL still looks pretty good but something about them seems ordinary
The Ravens DEFENSE appears to be much weaker than expected

The Falcons are ordinary for the most part. They seem to be tough mentally and they make plays when the game is on the line. Matt Ryan is great when he has to be and efficient and decisive the rest of the time. Well coached and well rounded but I don't see them being that talented. They remind a bit of the old Pats from 2001 with a better offense and a worse defense.

I could see this team winning 3 playoff games all by 3 points and winning the SB, I could also see a team beat them soundly in their first playoff game.

The Ravens secondary has held up better than I first suspected, however their rush defense has declined drastically. Joe Flacco is playing better than expected. I don't think we've seen them at their best.
