Jim, The distinction is that these were identified as "illegal drugs." The ones you're taking are legal. I don't know what makes the drugs he took illegal. Maybe they are something banned by the FDA and are brought in illegally from Mexico or something.
I didn't think about that. If they actually help diabetes, why didn't he get a doctor to give him a Rx?
Because drug companies gotta make that money.

One reason to NOT coach the Raiders A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that Raiders coach Lane Kiffin is fuming about the final round of roster cuts in Oakland. Though we don't know of any specific moves about which Kiffin is particularly upset, we're told that the bulk of the moves is evidence that owner Al Davis still has a significant amount of influence over the football operation.

What is Reid supposed to do now? I think it is a little late.
Most likely you are right. But I would go down swining. If Reid stepped down from the Eagles and tried to do something I am sure that there is a team that would hire him as HC/GM in 2 years. Sure, he has built a good team and now he has drafted a young QB that can take the team for another decade (in his mind). But how can you stand by and let your kids fall apart like that and not even try?
The time to make career sacrifices is when they are 2 and 4, not 22 and 24. You can't make up that time, they don't want to spend it with him now. The best he can do is partipate in their treatment programs. Tell them the love is unconditional, but those boys gotta want to help themselves. Andy sitting around the house wouldn't do jack.

Leftwich gets interest from Baltimore By Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports September 2, 2007 The agent for former Jacksonville quarterback Byron Leftwich said he spoke with six teams on Sunday about signing Leftwich. From initial talks, it appears that Baltimore may have some interest in signing Leftwich, agent Tom Condon said. Condon said he called Baltimore, Atlanta, Kansas City, Minnesota, Washington and Detroit to gauge the interest in Leftwich, who was released Saturday after losing the starting job to David Garrard. The Ravens would appear to be the most logical team to have interest in Leftwich. Baltimore nearly drafted Leftwich in the first round of the 2003 NFL draft before Jacksonville snagged him after the Ravens couldn't complete a move up in the round. Baltimore then took quarterback Kyle Boller in the first round, but Boller has been relegated to backup status. Baltimore was also in the market for a quarterback in the first round this year and was talking with Condon about drafting Brady Quinn, but Cleveland jumped up to the No. 22 pick to select Quinn ahead of the Ravens. Instead, Baltimore took quarterback Troy Smith of Ohio State in the fifth round instead. Jason Cole is a national NFL writer for Yahoo! Sports. Send Jason a question or comment for potential use in a future column or webcast.

We certainly all remember that fiasco. It's only right that they're still trying to fix that this many years later.

A downfield passing attack with Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson? Do they really think Kitna can do it? ANDY REID Yup, the BETTER time would have been a decade ago instead of coaching the Eagles. And, yes, it is very hard to have any effect on a 22 year old man. BUT, I still would have to try. You can do more than go to his treatment plans. Find out his career ideas and work on them together. Lastly, even if we know that the time for direct influence may be passed, taking off from your job before winning a Super Bowl would send a tremendous message to your son that NOTHING is more important than him. It is quite possible that a big part of the problem is his sons feel underappreciated and second fiddle to the Eagles.

You are a caring father JC, just as I like to think I am. I made severe professional sacrifices when my children were 2 and 3. I sometimes pine for what could have been, but when I see how great my kids are, I kind of laugh at myself. I made the right decision. I think that decision left the train station for Andy a long time ago. I feel sorry for him and his sons. I don't think abandoning his career at this would have any impact on his sons. Until they make an effort to correct the situation, there is really no outside influence that is going to make a difference.

Good the curse of Boller is still working! Actually if the Ravens pick up Leftwich, would they cut Boller? I would take a flyer on Boller over BroBo or Thigpen. I thought he was starting play servicable to above average the end of 2005. He has a serious arm and we would have Childress to develop him. The poor guy has been stuck with PR man/Geeksquad stat man/Coachfraud. Billick got credit for developing Moss. Still riding that coattail. In my opinion, Billick couldn't develop film.

Every family and every situation is different, and personal. Only Andy and his family can know what the right call is. Will he be better served staying in his job and helping his sons, giving them an example that you keep working through the hard times, and something for them to aspire to? Does he take time off to devote all his time to them, giving them a safety blanket and someone to lean on? It depends, and no one answer is right, it depends on their personal feelings and the situation. I pray they all come out of it alright.

TIKI KEEPS CHIRPING In the book, titled Tiki: My Life in the Game and Beyond (which is somewhat similar to the title we had expected -- Tiki: My Me My I Me I Me My), Barber continues his verbal assault on coach Tom Coughlin. Most surprisingly, Tiki seems to imply that he might have changed his mind about retiring if Coughlin had been fired after the 2006 season: "If Tom Coughlin had not remained as head coach of the Giants," Tiki writes, "I might still be in a Giants uniform." Barber also says that "[Coughlin] robbed me of what had been one of the most important things I had in my life, which was the joy I felt playing football. I had lost that. He had taken it away." There would be no fun allowed. Discipline is important but it is still a game. and for a guy to leave it in the prime of his career, at the top of his game, there has to be some secondary reasoning. It really wouldn't be hard to see that reasoning is a bad dictatorial jerk of a coach.

ESPN's John Clayton and Michael Smith report Oakland Raiders No. 1 overall draft pick QB JaMarcus Russell is close to signing a contract with the team according to his uncle. The Raiders "realize they have dropped the ball, and they started negotiating in good faith," Ray Russell, JaMarcus' uncle and adviser, told USA Today in an interview from Atlanta. "They've done more talking in the last week and a half than the previous three months. It's almost done. It's just a damn shame it's taken this long." Russell has missed 42 days of training camp.

They also announced that Mcnown will start Sunday. I thought Daunte was lighting the preseason on fire again?
They also announced that Mcnown will start Sunday. I thought Daunte was lighting the preseason on fire again? Perhaps that was a ploy to get Russell to sign? Or, the fear of the turnover is too great. We will see because I have zero faith in McCown. He is not on his 3rd team for nothing.

Check out his last five years -- Vick has better numbers over that time. And check out Favre's QB ratings last year -- ugly. He's holding back a Packers team that has a very good D.

It's a weird story for sure. I haven't watched any Raider preseason games but by all accounts Daunte has looked really good and Mcnown...well...he's looked like Mcnown.

This is an ugly game Manning doesn't have much on his balls. Reggie Bush is really playing poorly; he looks scared out there. Brees looks small and weak. Do these guys know this game counts?

Brees is a good QB, same with Bush, but IMO they are not "elite" players yet. Their receivers will be "back to life, back to reality". Their a 10 win, maybe one playoff game team.

Manning started off slowly but the Saints could not capitalize on it. Bush was very tentative in his running. Several times he got taken down short of the 1st down by a much slower guy. Brees was awful. He was weak and inaccurate. I wonder if they miss Joe Horn a little as the young guys weren't as sharp. Peyton Manning and all his acting at the line of scrimmage is already getting old. Couple that with every freakin' commercial and I have already had a year's supply of him.

The more I watch Reggie Bush, the more I believe he will be nothing more than a gimmick type player. His vision seems lacking and he doesn't like contact. There were several times he had a hole if he would have seen it. He will have some explosive games because of his speed. Watch a lot of his runs at USC and you will see he had a hole 4 ft wide and he just outran everyone. Man I'm glad we didn't reach for Meachem, he's no where to be found. I know there were a few on this board who wanted him.

Brees believed his Coach and seemed to be mentally unprepared for the way and the speed at which the Colts defense played. With Sanders around, the young Colts cornerbacks could play deep and keep everything in front of them. Bush was indeed very tentative, and I felt that the Saints should have used Deuce to run more in the second Quarter and the early third quarter.
