Leftwich gets interest from Baltimore By Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports September 2, 2007 The agent for former Jacksonville quarterback Byron Leftwich said he spoke with six teams on Sunday about signing Leftwich. From initial talks, it appears that Baltimore may have some interest in signing Leftwich, agent Tom Condon said. Condon said he called Baltimore, Atlanta, Kansas City, Minnesota, Washington and Detroit to gauge the interest in Leftwich, who was released Saturday after losing the starting job to David Garrard. The Ravens would appear to be the most logical team to have interest in Leftwich. Baltimore nearly drafted Leftwich in the first round of the 2003 NFL draft before Jacksonville snagged him after the Ravens couldn't complete a move up in the round. Baltimore then took quarterback Kyle Boller in the first round, but Boller has been relegated to backup status. Baltimore was also in the market for a quarterback in the first round this year and was talking with Condon about drafting Brady Quinn, but Cleveland jumped up to the No. 22 pick to select Quinn ahead of the Ravens. Instead, Baltimore took quarterback Troy Smith of Ohio State in the fifth round instead. Jason Cole is a national NFL writer for Yahoo! Sports.
