It's a sign of the respect I typically have for you that I've spent this many post talking to you about this, seriously. There are only a few people on this board that could tell me as often as you (imo) have told me that my intersts aren't worthy of discussion, and still have me even respond to them.

As someone who has has screwed up with trying to be funny quite often, I find  helps a lot.

I should have used  after the Insulted or Flattered remark too.

Thanks for the advise.  Honestly, I haven't been trying to tell people what to talk about or what I feel they are talking about since the Jay Cutler thing.  Obviously, my efforts haven't been as successful as I'd hoped.

Wow.  Slow down there Jackass.  It wasn't me that called you that.

My apologies...it was Tim Cady...

And I still haven't seen any admonishing for it.

No worries dude.  I was just messing with you.

Oh yeah, I make sure birthday announcements are on time.

So you basically stopped working and just rake in the profits now, while your underlings do the dirty work for you?

I am totaly just messing with you

I've been tempted to ask for donations (for personal gains) since we've moved but I just can't get myself to do it.

Seriously, unless you'd get offended if no one donated anything, you should do that. I'm not joking. I missed the first time you asked for help, but everyone does realize it costs some money to keep this site up.

I would donate, I'm not joking.

The donations poured in both times I asked for them, that is what tempts me to do it so I can buy an HDTV.  It was amazing how generous people were when it came to donations, even lurkers donated nice sums.  We have a great crowd here.  I think we sold a bunch of Kurtis's books too.

Seriously though, we already paid for the software and Erik donated the server so unless he needs money to pay for the hosting we shouldn't need money for this site anytime soon.  Maybe if we expand the site some day to include written articles or something we could use donations to give the writers something for their work or something.

Long as you post your address and have an open door policy on Sundays, I think we're all down for that! The wife can make nacho's, right?

The reason, as a moderator, that I never said anything about the word "Jackass" is that I always thought Tim was joking in that post. With all of the emoticons and stuff - it just seemed like a post attempting to be silly, so I never got the reaction.

Unfortunately on these kinds of forums it is often hard to read sarcasm or wink, wink joking into a post. And words are tricky - one person can read something completely different into a sentence than another person.

I like that posters usually resolve things on their own by talking it through. For the most part, this place is self-policed and I think it's usually best if the mods step back and wait to see if two parties can work things out on their own before the hammer comes down.

Oh man - I never thought of asking for a banner for my books. Maybe when book four comes out we can work something out???

For the record, I'm a big boy and can take being called a Jackass (even if Tim was just joking, and if he was, then he caught the humor I was trying to convey while others didn't)...I was just making a point that I was being haranged for saying "Who Cares?" and not a word was said about me being called a jackass...even to a point being called a jackass was defended.

But it's a moot point now...we've resolved our issues.

E,  Honestly...It didn't effect me at all.  I just thought it odd that you were coming after me for "who cares" and said word none about "jackass".

No harm done.

I spent 6 years in the US Navy...You didn't insult, offend or harm me in any way.  You would find it very difficult indeed to do that.

IOW.  Apology accepted.

I will probably be on here by 2pm or so tomorrow with my official review.

Unless you're talking about fishing opener.

Nope, I skip the opener (too many people).  Quite excited about the new Trek movie myself although I probably won't be able to see it this weekend.

Sorry to throw the grenade and run.

I have been busy, so I forgot all about this. Scott, think Happy Gilmore and I was joking as I thought you came across a little belittling to me, so I gave you an elbow nudge back.

You guys got good run with it though, as this is the most activity I can recall in a 24 hour period on the Lions thread.

E and Jeff good stuff.

If the Lions were smart they would save Stanton and sacrifice Culpepper. If Duante lives and a team needs a qb they could get premo value.

Well, I have to say that that Matt Stafford kid is looking like he's going to have a great career...may not all be in Detroit as that is where careers go to die...but that's one tough hombre.  Go back on the field with a dislocated Shoulder and throw a winning TD pass?

Good job kid.

Making fun of people isn't as much fun, for some reason, when they don't run away crying.  Though I am a trek geek.  I was also a Navy sailor.  I can take whatever you can dish out.  Very few here could possibly offend me.

Detroit Lions: Is Matthew Stafford ready to take the next step?

The Lions remain a team in absolute shambles, the only team for which a 2-14 season would not be deemed a disappointment. The Lions have massive problems on defense -- they've been the league's worst unit the past two seasons, according to Football Outsiders' DVOA -- so most of the offseason attention will likely be on that side of the ball. Still, any chance at respectability (which for Detroit might be six wins), is dependent on last year's first overall pick, Matthew Stafford, to emerge as a quality quarterback.

Stafford flashed serious potential at times in his rookie season, but his overall stats were extremely poor. According to Football Outsiders DYAR rankings, only JaMarcus Russell had a lower value than Stafford. DYAR is not really telling us something that conventional stats could not. Stafford completed only 53 percent of his passes and had a 13-to-20 TD-INT ratio. He played only one game all season in which he completed 60 percent of his passes and threw more touchdowns than interceptions, his signature game against Cleveland.

Stafford was only a rookie, but the odds against him to emerge next season are long. Since 1994 (the first year for which DYAR has been calculated), only one rookie has had a worse season and emerged as a very good player: Donovan McNabb. McNabb improved radically his second season, but he is definitely the exception to the rule. Among the current top quarterbacks in the league, only McNabb and Eli Manning had debut seasons even in the same ballpark as Stafford.

Quite simply, nothing about Stafford's rookie season suggests that he will play at a high level in 2010. Obviously, if the Lions get a great second receiver to pair with Calvin Johnson, it would help Stafford immensely. Still, any hope for the Lions to have a successful season next year is predicated on an assumption that Stafford will become a competent quarterback. In general, quarterbacks as bad as Stafford was as a rookie simply do not suddenly emerge as competent. He may develop into a star, but it will take more than one season for it to happen.
