No doubt that physical attraction is a very subjective thing - but I'm going to call BS on this statement.

I'll bet that George Clooney could say that, but he is a very attractive, charming and powerful man who has his pick. Average men, like those that post on this board ... not so much.

And yes - that was a direct shot at the men who have such an over developed belief in their own appearance that they feel comfortable denigrating women's looks. I see it here quite a bit and honestly it makes me laugh.

I doubt very much that many people know the actual risks. There has been a lot of talk about it, but honestly most of the public doesn't care because they want to enjoy football, and the NFL has spent billions hiding and twisting the truth about the risks.

Have you read the book or watched the documentary?

I will agree with you that the NFL is saying it can be minimized with better technique.

But, there are enough other sources out there that warn people of the risks.

I will try to get the book and read it though.

Mark, you can watch the doc here:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/league-of-denial/

It's hard to recommend the book, because I don't know how a person can read it and still remain the same kind of fan, but it's definitely an eye opener.

There is no question that even today the NFL is doing its best to minimize the damage being done to it by this knowledge.

Also, it extends beyond the NFL. Head injuries are a big issue in soccer as well

Money talks.

There is some research out there saying cell phones could be this generation's cigarettes. They talked about it for awhile and then the talk kind of disappeared.

Who payed for it to disappear?

I'm going to send the pictures of several posters here to Samantha Ponder to give her a chance to rate them. I'm guessing she will have the tact not to give her real opinion.

Really guys - you're making yourselves look like idiots.

Bravo Lynn.

I can understand the idea of us men being men, but there is such as thing as respect of the opposite sex, and knowing when to utilize it.

Let's not forget that Samantha Ponder is a married woman and should at least have our respect (or not) for her accomplishments as a sideline reporter. Not on how good she does or doesn't look to the men watching.

Why is it us men refuse to grow up? Respect the person if nothing else. Unless you personally know her, your judging of her beauty is marred. Most beauty comes from within, not what's outside.

The thing is Ponder believes her to be beautiful enough both inside and out, and to her I'm sure it's all that matters. You see for her, her job is not a beauty contest or for men to quibble over those looks (of course it will happen), it's her career.

I believe she is happy in her own skin. It might be reasonable to think that maybe your opinion of her looks, average or not, hardly is on her radar one way or another. I just personally feel that women don't like being thought of as sexual (or any other way) objects that have to be rated purely on looks alone (something my Dad taught me). After all I would think that most of you guys believe that there's more to you than your appearance. I know I do. I sure would hope so, otherwise I'm in big, big trouble. Handsome or good looking are hardly, if ever, used when describing me.

Of course as always this is just my opinion. YOMD (your opinion may differ).

Let the lambasting being. Even though I stated that it only an opinion. A personal one.

I know it's all in fun, but at the same time I believe it to be somewhat degrading of someone none of us know personally. Just what we know of her from ESPN coverage of college games.

You can always continue on with your idea of what being a man is to you, and what a proper way to act is for you. Something I have no problem with, just stating what I believe to be how we men should look at women, and I fully realize that I'm in a very slim minority with my line of thinking on the subject. Just had to get it out there.

I was going to say that John Childress and Todd M should post pictures of their wives/girlfriends, sister and mothers, and we could see what they really think of them.

I didn't give you the negative rating but not cool man.

She is in show business...and fair game. I laugh at the notion of getting offended by what one might think of someone on camera.

Automatically when I talk about celebs I rate them against their peers. Bringing up one's own mates or family into this is ridiculous.

YAWN

One thing that is predictable is you following me around

Why do you care that Mrs. Ponder is plain? Does it bother you?

She is no one special. A reporter on ESPN? We are not criticizing someone of serious worth.

Besides, calling her plain isn't denigrating anything - it is just the truth.

Clearly many people like plain

It is no different than other parts of life.

Look at how many people like Ponder at QB, Frazier as HC, etc.

Millions of people are raised to embrace mediocrity.

Mrs. Ponder is built for them.

I guess if you have been dating Basset Hounds your whole life then Mrs. Ponder would look like a beauty queen.

Why do you think I'm offended? I was going for what Mark Anderson got out of it. I'm not a prude, I'm saying you guys aren't being all that honest.

To me, she's not a celebrity, she's just a football player's wife. I've seen plenty hotter wives, and plenty uglier ones. She's not a model or an actress, she's an ESPN reporter, and even by that standard, she's pretty attractive. Suzy Kolber, Michelle Tafoya, Melissa Stark, Hannah Storm, etc? I mean, Erin Andrews is probably the hottest ESPN chick, and I don't think Samantha Steele is that far behind her.

Bullshit. It is not a fact, it is just your opinion. You. John Childress. Your insecurities are showing when you put down her appearance and when you constantly whine that any post of mine indicates that I'm following you around. I probably respond to 1% of your posts, but you are so insecure that to you that indicates stalking. Get over it and stop looking over your shoulder.

Some folks here are pretty funny

You make an opinion board
Invite opinions
then decide you don't want opinions when the opinions aren't yours!

pretty funny

Groupthink makes for a useless board

Samantha Ponder is a very attractive person, and she seems nice as Hell. Now, who thinks Manziel will be a good fit in the pro game. He has ability, but he seems to be very slight as well as shorter than six feet. A small mobile qb is an injury waiting to happen, IMO.

Like I said "Let the lambasting begin. Even though I stated that it's only an opinion. A personal one".

Nothing to get over Todd.

Live and let live. You have your opinion, and expressed it, I have mine, and expressed it.

Never said you had to agree and never presumed you had to change your POV to mine. In fact I said go ahead and think as you will. It's just not my thoughts on the subject. Even mentioned that I was in a very slim minority with that line of thought.

Not once tried to suggest you to be someone you're not. Just agreed with Lynn that's all. My right, just as yours was to ask me to get over myself, when in fact I too am very happy in my skin and feel no need to get over myself for being who I am.

I am my Father's son, and proud of it, as you are more than likely proud of being who you are, as you should be.

You're a fine poster and I have no problems with you or any other poster here. I just want everyone to realize that there is a respect for opinions here that need to be reminded about every now and then. Otherwise we get that 'get over yourself" thing happening when we are all just expressing our opinions. They are not right or wrong, just ours.

The new black female sideline reporter on ESPN NFL Countdown is definitely eye candy.

I don't think Manziel gets out of the top 5. At best we'll be lucky if their aren't at least 4 qbs already off the board. Lets gat a top 8 mock started in her. Maybe I'll go over to the draft thread

Easily could and easily top 10. Someone posted he was a 3rd round candidate. I'd place a sizable wager on that one not being close.

BIG 10 gets a win as 9 point underdog Nebraska beats Georgia. Iowa is in a dog fight.

Nah, I'm still in the 18th century, I buy the hard copies. I'm starting to come around though, I have digital copies of Sherlock Holmes, War and Peace, and the Art of War on my phone.
