Hockey is a very traditions based game. More so than any other minus golf.

It has/had a very specific purpose in the game (the fighting that is). They have tried to get rid of it but it'll take time. Way too many old timers (especially in Canada) that won't let it go.

+1. Fighting in Europe has never been an issue, but stick work is. We've got to find a happy medium between the two.

Yes. I picked Stanford which pretty much took me from in the money to out of the money in my pool

I could not believe how conservative Stanford was. It was worse than watching Bill at his best. With out looking I'll bet in the last six series he started out run, run in all of them.

The last 4 and 1 killed me. I'm going to line up and run it down your throat! Wrong!

Any way, as I Big 10 guy I have to say I was really impressed with MSU.

Dunno about greatest draft, but I wouldn't hate it

I like McCarron late 1st (trade up again, after going BPA with the 1st pick at #8), or 2nd round, if they can't get Bridgewater, Manziel or Bortles with their 1st pick.

Apparently a bad performance in a Bowl Game doesn't hurt.

I wasn't aware of the score of that game. I was liking McCarron because he just seemed to win, and did all right in the game against Texas A&M, which is the WORST defense with which to make any sort of judgement on a QB. The Aggies had a HORRIBLE defense, I should have watched more film on McCarron before saying he might be a good 2nd round pick. They probably have a good supporting cast with Alabama.

Bridgewater, Manziel or Bortles, and no others until convinced otherwise.

You just liked McCarron an hour and 30 minutes ago.

A LOT can happen in an hour and 30 minutes.

I think the bowl games have some importance. Maybe I'm putting too much emphasis on it ? Bridgewater, Manziel and Bortles all had nice bowl games, after having good seasons.

Admittedly, I know VERY LITTLE about past college games. How did some of the SB winning QBs do in their bowl games, anybody know off hand ? Did most of them do well ?

How did Montana, Aikman, Young, Elway, Favre, Brady, Big Ben, the Mannings, and Rodgers do in their bowl games ?

That's why you have to look at the whole body of work not just one game.

Like I said the other day, Manziel played a great 2nd half against Duke. However if he played better in the first they would have blown Duke out. Also if he played better in the previous two losses they would have been in a better Bowl game.

Bortles didn't look good in the 1st half of his game either.

Regardless of who we get at QB. we are going to have to be patient with that player. Good luck with that if we can't be patient for one half of football.

Peyton Manning got worked in the one bowl game I remember him playing. He also never beat Florida, who at that time, were the SEC cream of the crop. And Tennessee was at home and favored in his final game against them.

Bowl games are simply what they are.. One game played three-four weeks after the regular season, against an unfamiliar opponent, who has an equal amount of time to scout and prepare a game plan.

Some guys play well; some guys are neutralized.

Very disappointing

That should have been a warning as despite being the greatest regular season QB is very mediocre in the playoffs

Some guys simply don't perform well in big situations

Yes. I'm recovering from knee surgery and so I've had extra time to watch the games this week, but also I've been recording them so that I could watch them when I'm up to it. That game made me so happy and I think that Brent Musberger and Gary Danielson are the best broadcast team in the business bar none. I also enjoyed the Fiesta Bowl and I also caught the end of the Sugar Bowl yesterday. For me it was the trifecta. All three games I was happy with the outcomes.

I was watching Shaw during the broadcast. I like his demeanor. Calm, but authoritative. That's not much to go on, I realize. His father coached here in Minnesota with Denny. I'm wondering if he might have even grown up here.

Edit: I do not believe that Shaw grew up here. He went to college in the early 90's. Did he come here to Minnesota for a song to tryout for the Vikings? I don't believe he made any team as a Pro.

Football is a very emotional game. I had the sense that Alabama did not have its heart in the game to the extent that Oklahoma certainly did.

I saw where Stoops might be ready to make the move to the NFL. I would like to see the Vikings at least interview him. I don't know if he was ever an assistant in the NFL like Shaw, but I would like that from a college coach making the move.

I appreciate that. I'm doing exercises and trying to deal with a lot of pain. The worst is definitely behind me, though.

I saw Stoops out coach Saban and loved every minute of it.
