Lester isn't one of the best pitchers in the game. He's having a fluke season so far. I'd be afraid of regression the rest of the season.

Veteran mentor for the A's staff once they hit the play-offs. He gets the ball in Game 1 of each series. Will not be overtaken by the moment.
Very valuable in that sense.

I'd take any other playoff team's #1 over Lester. Sounds like a loss to me. Fits better as a #2 or #3 on the A's staff. I'd start Kazmir #1 if I'm the A's and not think twice about it.

We disagree

Tommy Millone,

doesn't throw hard. # 4 starter on a bad team. # 5 on a good team, maybe.

I'm ok with that.

I'll take Millone over

Correia
2014 Nolasco
Pino

Disagree, Ed. Cespedes isn't all that.

Also Matt, fuzzy math from the accountant. Lester's ERA+ this year is 155. And all you should care about if you're the A's is this year.

Dustin, since when do you rely on small sample sizes? His last several years before this one have been mediocre.

The Twins have acquired lefty Tommy Milone from the A’s, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link).

Well

RT @Ken_Rosenthal: #Twins calling up 1B/DH Kenny Vargas. Could be related to trade.

Wow. Do not agree at all. I'd take Price over Lester to start, MAYBE Verlander. And; that's it of potential playoff teams in the AL.

Do not agree. But again, the A's should only care about this year in a Lester deal. And he's been dominant. In a way worse park.

Milone for Willingham or Fuld is a good trade.

Ryan did good.

Scott Diamond is a poor man's Tommy Milone.

Milone is worth watching.

Just Fuld? If so: HUGE!

Not a big Millone guy, but way better than Correia for sure. Of course, so are half of us on this forum.

Parms? Colabello? Please tell me Beane didn't want them. It must be Willingham to replace Cespedes. So much for that Vogt guy.

Flipped a DFA pick up for a pitching upgrade.

Flipped an overweight DH that was doing nada for a potential bullpen arm, and got them to pay the bill.

2-2

Fuld. Good.

Nice trade for the Twins.

We swindled Billy Beane.

Willingham could go back to LF, with Vargas as DH

Milone had pitched to a solid 3.55 ERA with 5.7 K/9, 2.4 BB/9 and a 38.4 percent fly-ball rate in 96 1/3 innings this season.

Ryan should trade Fien, Hicks, Hammer and Phil Hughes to Seattle for Nick Franklin and Tajuan Walker

Never hurts to ask.

Milone is also only 27

Wow, that's an excellent deal for new "fan fave" Sam Fuld.

Kudos to Bruno for getting Fuld up to a level where someone wanted him.

Milone may not throw hard, but can pitch. Something Rick Anderson will likely wreck.

The only downside is Milone is a typical RA pitcher. This indicates to me that RA ain't going anywhere.

Cespedes has 80Ks in 101 games. Willingham has 64 in 59 games.

I understand you like all your new-found stats. This one? I'll go with my gut. Willingham stinks. Period. He is not a better player than Cespedes.

And I'll even go Gardy on this one, his D is a huge improvement over WHam, who only DHs now in MN because he's so bad.

Ed, not saying he's better, mainly for the reasons you cite. But he has hit better than Cespedes has this year in his PT; that can't really be disputed.

But the overall point is that Cespedes just isn't anything special. He's not young and he's a HR derby guy with a cannon arm so people go bonkers. But he's not all that. And Beane knows it.

Beane will mix and match with platoons and maximize a slew of bats. Smart move.

You have got to be kidding me

Per @Twins_morsecode, newly-acquired Tommy Milone will report to Triple-A Rochester. #MNTwins
