Still think that Matt Kemp would be a nice add. Crazy Carl Crawford? Not so much.

But the big boys will get him. Not these small-minded, over-cautious bean counters.

The little bean counters see the negatives
The relevant teams see the positive potentials

The whole payroll bull still irks me.

Can add payroll. Yay, they tried with Kendrys. Didn't work. Fine.

Move on, try again.

Just don't see it. Next year they'll throw $$ at some pus thrower, because they'll want to wait another 2 months on May/Meyer.

Such disappointing approach.

The Dodgers Yanks and Bosox have all made colossal blunders in some personnel decisions
They don't turtle up
They say "pffffft" and move the hell on.
It's not a mom and pops business.
Get IN or get the hell out.

Cards making moves......added Justin Masterson and earlier signed AJ to fill the catching hole.....

They make moves when they are in a race.

TR, in the past, sat on his hands and said woe is me, a small market team.

The little engine that couldn't.

is now not soo little and still can't.

The Cubs have acquired Felix Doubront from the Red Sox, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Jon Morosi of FOX Sports first reported (on Twitter) that a deal was close.

The Red Sox will receive a player to be named later in return for the 26-year-old lefty, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com reports on Twitter. That player will be determined after the Rule 5 draft, tweets Alex Speier of WEEI.com.

Doubront’s tenure in Boston seemed destined to come to an end after he publicly announced his desire to return to the rotation — with another team, if necessary

2:50pm: The Cubs are getting close to trading Bonifacio, tweets Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago. Levine tweets that Bonifacio is not in tonight’s lineup, which could obviously signal that a deal is nigh. Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that the Giants have been scouting Bonifacio all week, but the asking price for the impending free agent is said to be high.

BTW, the Sox can afford to deal these pitchers (and will get a heck of a return on Lester)....because they have a TON of pitching depth coming in the minor leagues. They don't wait and hold guys for years and years and years like the Twins are doing with Meyer/May.

Idiots.

Not too long ago the Bosox couldn't brag enuf about masterson and Lester and lackey, etc.
Soon there won't be any remnants of that left there.

Ya, but they have a new wave coming that's just as good Scott. They're not going anywhere but up with that farm system, which is top 3.

Gotta love how "little Johnny gets a medal" people look at facts.
Espn is advertising the Boston vs Yankees series this weekend as a meeting of teams with 53 pennants between them.
Ummmmmmm, one of the teams has 40.
Not really how you should advertise the rivalry.

Yep, fully aware.
Rich get richer. They're always mentioned when talking .... Best farm systems. Loaded with arms.
Sigh.

Why didn't they say "35 WS titles between them"?

Next time they play the Twins maybe we can use ...."31 WS titles between them!"

Whoa

8:54am: Passan tweets that Oakland is also sending a competitive balance draft pick to the A’s in the trade, and Boston is sending cash to Oakland. The A’s landed the second pick in Comp Round B in last week’s lottery.

8:49am: The Athletics have acquired Jon Lester from the Red Sox, according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com (Twitter links). In what will be a blockbuster deal, Jonny Gomes and Yoenis Cespedes will head to Boston. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports first reported that Lester had been traded to an unknown club.

Lester/Gomes for Cespedes is the reported deal.

I really don't like that trade for the A's. Cespedes is too valuable.

Oakland has to sign Lester now to make that a good deal.

Of course everyone is praising Billy Beane because he's going for it "now." I get it. But they could win now with what they had. Lester is no guarantee to shut anyone down in the playoffs. If he flops a start in the playoffs, or just gets beat in a close low-scoring game, it's a complete waste. I'd much rather have Cespedes' bat for the playoffs and next year. Lester is bailing after this season.

Of course Mackey loves this trade for the A's. I'm a Billy Beane and A's apologist, but Mackey is blindly loyal to GM's like Beane. You don't have to defend every single move he makes.

If all you get is a draft pick, some cash and Gomes for Cespedes, and you don't win it all, it's a really bad deal.

If you win it all,and don't keep Lester, it's still not a very good deal.

9:14am: The Red Sox are sending under $1MM to the A’s in the trade, tweets Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Meanwhile, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America tweets that the value of the Competitive Balance pick that Boston receives will be roughly $800K.

8:54am: Passan tweets that Oakland is also sending a competitive balance draft pick to the Red Sox in the trade, and Boston is sending cash to Oakland. The A’s landed the second pick in Comp Round B in last week’s lottery.

Even worse. Oakland is giving up that pick. I doubt they'll keep Lester.

And lose Cespedes. They'd better have a stud coming up.

Imagine Yoenis Cespedes' power if David Ortiz teaches him how to accidentally take steroids. WOW!

I don't mind the A's deal at all.

I am not the biggest Cespedes fan out there so I don't mind it.

They have to win the West to avoid a 1-game wild card game, and the Angels are good, let alone worry about the playoffs.

I think Beane did the right thing.

The Russell/Samardzija trade bothered me a little bit for them. But once Beane did that one, this one is not at all a wrong call. He is all in.

Cespedes isn't THAT good.

He's 29. He's about as good as he will be. Good, not great.

A career .262 hitter.
