The Rays have shut down Drew Smyly due to his innings workload. Smyly has thrown a career-high 153 innings this season, and the club has said they wanted him to finish in the 150-160 range.

Man, the Nats seem to be getting stronger.
Always was a Matt Williams fan when he played, he's done a nice job.

Brewers don't score in a 3-3 game after loading the bases with no one out in the 8th. KRod gives up a walk then back to back homers with two outs
in the top of the 9th. I don't know if there has been a bigger choke job than what the Brewers are doing right now.

Lots of exciting races this year. I still hate the 2nd wild card (hell, I hate the first WC) as I think that's what makes baseball special to me is how great it is to get to the postseason. I hate that in just about everything else you can be mediocre:

CFB bowl games (though they don't matter)
March Madness expansion (and it's going to get bigger)
NBA/NHL/NFL you can be a .500 team or below even some years

Baseball I liked it when it was 4 or 6 out of 30. But I must admit it's making it exciting. Hopefully the Royals and Jays or Mariners can take out the Tigers.

Agreed skilz.
Fun to see the Royals still in it this time of year.
Im amazed the Brewers have basically given up hope.
Ummm, you still are right there ... right the ship. I know it sounds impossible ... but ... you are where you are for a reason.

Agreed. I do like the Royals a lot. Still think as soon as the Tigers get dismantled (they're the new Phillies) it's going to be us and the Royals battling for the division for several years. IF we get rid of the guys currently "leading" these guys.

Oh how I wish I could have your enthusiasm.
Sigh.

Really good comp on the Tigers/Phillies
Seems to be going that way quickly.
All in .... All out (hopefully)

As soon as their owner dies, they are done. The team is in DETROIT. Yet they have the 4th highest payroll in the sport, just behind Philly coincidentally. That will come crashing down after he dies because he's spending for a ring before he's gone.

Miggy is already semi-done IMO. His body type does not age well. And that contract? Wow. Victor Martinez is currently their best player and he's 36. Even Kinsler is getting up there now for a MI. All their pitchers save Price and Porcello (1 more year under control for each) are in their 30's. Nick Castellanos, unless they keep a couple of the pitchers, are really about it for the future.

It will all come crashing down for them really soon.

I guess there are advantages to being a Twins fan. We don't worry about things crashing down soon.

4 years of no place to go but up.

Will 2015 be the 5th year?

Keep the status quo and I wouldn't be surprised to see us well over 80 losses and pushing 90.

I was happy with the old playoff format with no wildcard. Two divisions in each league. Four teams make the playoffs. Not eight. In fact I'd even love to eliminate divisions and the Championship series. Balance the schedule. Eliminate interleague play. At the end of the regular season the 1st place team in the AL goes to the World Series, and the 1st place team in the NL goes to the World Series. Cut out all the crap.

Tougher for Gardy to lose 90 games.

But still very attainable. You're selling him short.

Stanton hit in the face last night, facial fractures.
Never a sure thing how players will respond to that.
Great young talent. Lets hope he recovers completely.

Liriano with a great start for Pitt when they needed it most. 12 Ks
