Reds starter Homer Bailey will undergo surgery tomorrow on his right forearm to repair a flexor mass tendon tear, the club announced on Twitter. He is expected to be ready in time for the spring, according to a report from C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer, who says the injury has been deemed a similar but less-severe version of that which afflicted what recently-dealt reliever Jonathan Broxton.

Needless to say, this is not how the 28-year-old — and, even less so, his team — hoped to see this season end. Bailey inked a six-year, $105MM extension before the 2014 campaign, a significant investment for a mid-market club that has already locked up several core players and had to choose carefully in making commitments to its best arms.

Wash gets canned in TX.

shouldn't he be allowed 13 or 14 more seasons to right the ship based on his past success?

knee jerk TX ownership. expecting results.

edit, not canned.

Ron Washington has resigned as Rangers manager for personal reasons, the team announced.

On August 20th, I posted this

Why do I think that Ron Washington, a manager who lead his team to back to back WS (lost both) is on the hot seat for his teams terrible record this season while Gardy's job security is safe after 4 straight 90+ loss seasons?

We fired our minor league coordinator of hitting.

And we are damn close to letting some of the beer vendors go.

He didn't get canned.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/09/ron-washington-resigns-as-rangers-manager.html

And if anyone believes it was all for personal matters...get your nose checked cause you're not smelling the bullshit.

He quit because he knows he sucked.
Meanwhile, Ron Gardenhire knows beyond a doubt that the Twins manager job is his for as long as he wants it. He can lose 150 games a year, and they'd find some excuse to cover his ass.

Watching the Royals get knocked around by the Tigers.
Jack working the game.
I know I whine about this often, but other teams broadcast crews are so enjoyable to listen to.
There's no comparison. We're doing it wrong here, IMO.

Left-hander Drew Smyly started for the Tigers on the afternoon of July 31, and after leaving the game received two or three texts, including one from his father, saying, "Are you about to get traded?"

Smyly thought, "What are they talking about?" but then he got on Twitter, saw what was going on and said to himself, "I think I might get traded." Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski eventually broke the news to Smyly, leaving him shocked.

Well, it turns out that the trade could be the best thing that ever happened to Smyly, who has produced a 1.70 ERA in his first seven starts for the Rays, albeit with an unsustainable .186 batting average on balls in play.

Smyly, 25, clearly is benefiting from the Rays’ advanced approached to analytics. Upon joining the team, club officials informed him that they had detected some of his lesser-known strengths by studying the numbers.

The Rays told Smyly to elevate his fastball more — sort of a counter-intuitive move for a pitcher — and they also emphasized that while he was successful getting to two strikes against right-handed hitters, he needed to find better ways to finish those hitters off.

Obviously, the biggest key for Smyly is executing pitches, but he said the Rays’ suggestions made a big difference in his approach. Makes you wonder why the Tigers didn’t pick up on the same things.

Exactly what the Twins should have been telling Scott Baker. Instead, they told him the opposite. "Keep the ball down." Baker's strength was the high fastball. That was always his best pitch. But the Twins encouraged him to find different ways to get outs.

Precisely why we always talk in game about not having guys who can "get one by the guy" when needed.
The plane of the bat on the low pitches allows for more "staying alive" until they eventually get a pitch to hit.

Baker has been a bad luck pitcher for the Rangers this season. But his 1.20 WHIP suggests he might be in for a nice season next year.

It's definitely harder now to hit .300
Very crazy to see that.
