I may have to pull for the Royales next year if Torii goes ring-hunting there ...

Aoki to Hunter is a bit of a step down at this point.

He'd be going there more to replace Butler as the DH.

Rays

NOV. 10: The Rays added a pair of managerial candidates to the mix today in the form of Barry Larkin and Doug Glanville, tweets Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

NOV. 9: The Rays conducted phone interviews with Wakamatsu, Counsell, and Ibanez on Friday and are expected to speak with Montoyo, Wotus, and Cash during this week’s GM Meetings in Phoenix, reports the Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Topkin.

NOV. 8: The Rays interviewed Martinez and Acta today, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune tweets.

The Twins made hiring a HOF player as manager cool.

But Barry Larkin doesn't seem like a manager to me. He brings nothing to the ESPN studio.

Agreed. I could see Glanville as a bench coach or something, but not sure he's firey enough for a ML role. I think Acta would be a good hire.

3:29pm: Cuddyer’s contract is a two-year, $21MM pact, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (Twitter link). Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets that he’ll earn $8.5MM in 2015 and $12.5MM in 2016. Essentially, by turning down the qualifying offer, Cuddyer guaranteed himself an additional $5.7MM and a second year.

I think he threw money away. But maybe he has no confidence that he can be healthy this season.

Good.

The Tampa Bay Rays' worry is now reportedly a real MLB investigation: The Chicago Cubs are being probed for tampering, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, in the aftermath of making Joe Maddon their manager.

I was born in the dark, but it wasn't last night.

If it is proven the Cubs tampered, they may have to give the Rays some form of compensation, such as a player, draft picks and/or money. It also is possible — especially if any Cubs official lied to MLB investigators — there could be suspensions. The same wing that investigated Alex Rodriguez in the Biogenesis matter is looking into these tampering allegations.

Kris Bryant and their next two 1st rounders. Also suspend Theo for 1 year and Maddon for 81 games.

Ya, that seems totally fair.

Wow.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/players-to-reject-the-qualifying-offer.html

I'd have lost a lot of money betting against that before FA began. The QO is probably going to jump to $20M or more sooner rather than later. Mark's head is exploding right now.

Abreu was unanimous, Matty.

Ridiculous that Santana didn't finish in the top 5 though.

I think one big selling point for NY is the fact that Cuddyer's has aspirations to get in the media. Everyone knows he has had his sights set on broadcasting or something TV related for years. Closing out his career in NY is almost a no brainer. I would not be shocked if there is already a deal in the works for Cuddy to have a weekly spot on the radio. I can already hear him raving about the Mets young pitching come spring training. The Mets will also sell the fact that he and Wright are pals. The Mets need a guy like him, quite frankly. David Wright is sort of like Mauer in front of a microphone. I would say Curtis Granderson was probably the go to guy in the media but that will be a shared thing with Cuddyer.

I am not surprised at all he ended up with the Mets. I'm sure Cuddy will be boating on the Long Island Sound, golfing at Winged Foot, taking plenty of phone interviews and making appearances left, right and center. THere will also be Cuddyer in the dugout with the headset on talking to Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling during broadcasts.

The problem is, he probably should have stayed in the AL. I thought Baltimore would be a better landing place for him

That is ridiculous. I thought Dellin Betances would finish ahead of him, but I figured he'd be 3 in the voting

Good grief. This is like the Twins doing the same thing. Non-news. Twitter can be so stupid sometimes.

The Astros have checked in on top free agent hitter Hanley Ramirez, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal notes that with Carlos Correa, Colin Moran, and Rio Ruiz in the Astros’ pipeline for the left side of their infield, it’s unclear whether the Astros would be willing to meet Ramirez’s demands for a large contract.

And Dustin, just for you, why Tomas will NEVER be signed by MN as a free agent.

How about the $100MM figure that has been bandied about for Tomas? “I don’t know where that came from, but he’d be happy and I’d be happy,” says Alou. In my September profile of Tomas, I posited a seven-year, $105MM contract. More recently, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports went with eight years and $100MM, an agent who spoke to Heyman said seven years and $93MM, and a GM said eight years, $100MM. Eight years is an interesting call, because that would mean Tomas would be giving up a potential valuable free agent season. Seven would be more aligned with typical MLB service time for a top prospect, who can put in just shy of seven years before reaching free agency if called up a few weeks into the season.

Certainly. I'm still hoping he'll join ours after he's done. He'd be worlds better than Gladden.

I just find him boring I guess. There's almost no discernible difference (for me) between him and his partner.

Wasn't speaking as if Danny needs to be the first to go, just that he could be replaced in the "ex player" role.

Free agent closer David Robertson is looking to at least match, and likely top, a contract in the range of four years and $50MM, ESPN New York’s Andrew Marchand reports. This is, of course, so-called “Papelbon money,”

Which is $$$ that turns you into an insufferable jerk.
