Exactly. I would vote for none of those on the Veterans' Committee (all close) but I would vote for all of the following on the regular ballot:

Biggio
Piazza
Bagwell
Raines
Clemens
Bonds
Schilling
Edgar Martinez
Trammell
Kent
McGwire
Randy Johnson
Pedro
Smoltz
Sheffield

That's 15 guys! McGriff/Nomar/Delgado would be close for me. No to Morris/Lee Smith.

And it's going to get tougher. 2016 you add Griffey, Edmonds, Jason Kendall, and Cristian Guzman.

2017: Pudge, Manny, Vasquez

I was wondering how quick someone would catch that. He remains maybe in my top 5 favorite Twins' all time in my lifetime. Guzman triples were a thing of beauty for a few years there.

Anyone else catch that DruBu was designated for assignment by the Dodgers? There comes our 3rd catcher for the roster since they won't trust Pinto's defense.

Only half-kidding, unfortunately.

Please. Somebody hide the scissors, keep them out of TRs hands.
Please let Paul Molitor blow up on the front office if they are dumb enough to bring that worthless pile of donkeydung back.

Yes, Ed caught it on the previous page.

My bad, Ed.

There's no way it happens, especially now with Hunter, but man, the Twins should have tried to work something out with the Dodgers. Dodgers are desperate for catching and have plenty of prospect assets, plus Kemp. Kemp's making a lot of money, but I'm sure the Dodgers will end up eating some of it in any trade.

Suzuki and Nolasco for Kemp and cash. Say $25M over 5 years. Maybe throw in another prospect in from either side. Put Kemp in RF or LF and see a massive upgrade. And he'd be 34 at the end of his deal, which has 5 years/$107M left on it. Would open up OF assets to trade as well; Hicks/Arcia/Rosario/Kepler/potentially Plouffe, for pitching.

Payroll impact in the above scenario:

2015: Twins save $3M with $5M/yr relief/Kemp vs. Suzuki/Nolasco
2016: Twins save $2.5M
2017: Twins save $2.5M (I'm assuming Suzuki's option will vest)
2018: Twins paying $15.5M ($1M buyout for Nolasco that year plus $21.5M for Kemp)
2019: Twins paying $16.5M in last year of Kemp's deal

That would have been nice.

Pretty good for a terrible starter who found a "niche" in the 'pen

Earlier today the Yankees acquired Didi Gregorius in a three-team trade, and that was just the beginning of the splash they’re making, as they’ve now also announced the signing of Andrew Miller to a four-year contract. Miller, a client of Frontline Athlete Management, will reportedly receive a $36MM guarantee, but the contract does not include a no-trade clause.

4 years 36 mill for Miller

Speculation is he'll become NYY closer

The Padres are the team that is most likely to land Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp via trade, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). Recent reports had tied the two clubs in talks.

San Diego’s current offer includes Yasmani Grandal and another player, reflecting the prior reporting of FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal that the backstop was in play. The talented 26-year-old would provide a platoon option with upside for the Dodgers.

Of course, with the Padres in the lead it still remains an open question just how likely Los Angeles is to move its star and, if so, how much money it is willing to eat on his contract. His market is complicated by the fact that several other right-handed power bats are available.

Whew, thought he would be a "Twins guy"

TODAY, 10:18am: The deal is expected to be for something around two years and $18MM with an option year attached, tweets Chris Cotillo of SB Nation. That would look to be quite an attractive price tag for Chicago.

10:12am: Hammel “is returning” to the Cubs, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

YESTERDAY: Jason Hammel is nearing a deal to return to the Cubs, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweets. Hammel signed a one-year deal with the Cubs last February, then enjoyed a strong half-season in Chicago before heading to Oakland in the Jeff Samardzija deal.

What going to the NL will do for a guy
Hammel significantly improved his strikeout rate (8.1 K/9, to go with a 3.47 ERA and 2.2 BB/9) in 2014 following a down season with the Orioles, and he pitched 176 1/3 innings, his highest total since 2010.

If you compare his #'s between CHI and OAK

Most of them better when in the NL.
DH has such a massive impact.

Which is why it boggles my mind the Twins blew so much on a couple of NL pitchers in the last few years.

No doubt, Ed. And agree on Hammel; wanted no part of him.

All you need to know about the AL vs. NL is that Greg Maddux structured his entire career around pitching in the NL, and still constantly advises pitchers to pitch in the NL vs. the AL. Maddux is maybe the "smartest" pitcher that we've ever seen pitch, and he wanted no part of the American League.

Another castoff no one wanted, Beane's staff gets mileage out of and flips in a trade

11:30am: The deal sending Moss to the Indians is done, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports on Twitter.

11:15am: The Athletics and Indians are “on the verge” of a deal that would send slugger Brandon Moss to Cleveland, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports on Twitt

White Sux closing in on Samardzija

Twins are kicking tires, considering Andrew Albers.

They have a "humble" GM who KNOWS he's not good enough to be a team President.

I either want the DH for both leagues, or eliminate it altogether. It really wouldn't bother me to see it illiminated.

The White Sox agreed to terms with former Yankees closer David Robertson and traded for A's starter Jeff Samardzija according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today and Jon Heyman of CBSSports, respectively. Robertson's deal is reported to be for four years and in excess of $40 million. Samardzija was traded to Oakland in July and finished with a record of 5-6, a 3.14 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 16 starts. Neither deal has been confirmed by the White Sox.

I wont mourn the passing of the David Robertson Era.

I should have trusted my source on Samardzija to the White Sox last week. I did until Dustin doubted me.

DSP has proven it's very easy to be a team President. Of course, with the Twins, you must also sell your soul. Just memorize a bunch of canned press releases and rearrange the words a little each time.

Watched the documentary The Battered Bastards of Baseball on Netflix last night. Outstanding! It's a story I knew next to nothing about, and I'm not sure why. Actor Bing Russell created the Portland Mavericks, the final independent team to directly compete against MLB-affiliated teams in the minors. He won Executive of the Year one season even though he was only overseeing that one team. Portland, Oregon lost the Beavers the year before the Mavericks came to town because of horrible attendance. Bing brought record attendance to Portland. Then MLB stepped in using their anti-trust exemption and wiped the team out. MLB wanted back into the Portland market that Bing brought to life. And they got it - although they had to pay more money than ever after they lost an arbitration hearing to Bing. Kurt Russell played for the team for one season, then had to retire because of an injury. It's only like 79 minutes long...an easy watch.

Thought I begged you awhile back to try that one out.
Loved it too.

Kurt Russell is maybe the coolest dude on the planet at times. Comes from a family of characters.
