My bad, Ed. There's no way it happens, especially now with Hunter, but man, the Twins should have tried to work something out with the Dodgers. Dodgers are desperate for catching and have plenty of prospect assets, plus Kemp. Kemp's making a lot of money, but I'm sure the Dodgers will end up eating some of it in any trade. Suzuki and Nolasco for Kemp and cash. Say $25M over 5 years. Maybe throw in another prospect in from either side. Put Kemp in RF or LF and see a massive upgrade. And he'd be 34 at the end of his deal, which has 5 years/$107M left on it. Would open up OF assets to trade as well; Hicks/Arcia/Rosario/Kepler/potentially Plouffe, for pitching. Payroll impact in the above scenario: 2015: Twins save $3M with $5M/yr relief/Kemp vs. Suzuki/Nolasco 2016: Twins save $2.5M 2017: Twins save $2.5M (I'm assuming Suzuki's option will vest) 2018: Twins paying $15.5M ($1M buyout for Nolasco that year plus $21.5M for Kemp) 2019: Twins paying $16.5M in last year of Kemp's deal That would have been nice.
