Yep. And Pelfrey. That's $35.5M for those 4 guys! Duensing/Nunez are another $5M. No way in hell should those 6 guys cost $40M.

A three-team trade that would send Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Wil Myers to the San Diego Padres has been agreed upon by all sides, ESPN's Jim Bowden reports. The deal is pending physicals.

The Washington Nationals are the third team and the deal is expected to include 11 players in all, according to Bowman. The Nationals will receive Padres shortstop prospect Trea Turner as a player to be named later and pitching prospect Joe Ross. In addition to Myers, San Diego will receive Rays catcher Ryan Hanigan, plus three other prospects.

Tampa Bay will acquire Nationals outfield prospect Steven Souza and five other prospects.

Well, the Royals have succeeded in acquiring......."names" this offseason. If this was 2010 or so, man, they'd be rocking...

Cards/Reynolds

DEC. 18: Reynolds can earn up to $800K of incentives, tweets Heyman. He will earn an additional $200K for reaching 250, 350, 450 and 550 plate appearances.

DEC. 11: The Cardinals have announced the signing of corner infielder Mark Reynolds. The veteran slugger will get a $2MM guarantee on the one-year contract and he can earn more through playing time incentives, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports on Twitter.

Bullpen bucks

The White Sox, Yankees and Astros have spent heavily on relief help this offseason, and ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick wonders if they’ll end up regretting their expensive contracts for veteran relievers. “In the last couple of years we’ve lost a lot of games late in the eighth and ninth inning,” says White Sox manager Ventura. “After a while you sit there and think, ‘We have to have somebody who can come in and do this.’ Everything has its risks — and this is one of them — but we’re pretty confident we got a guy [David Robertson] who we can put in the bullpen and be a leader.” The reason for all the spending on players like Robertson, Zach Duke, Andrew Miller, Luke Gregerson and Pat Neshek isn’t so much that teams are trying to emulate the Royals‘ ferocious 2014 bullpen, Crasnick suggests. Rather, it’s more that teams are loaded with cash and pitchers like Robertson and Miller are very good.

Except the Twins. THey want to use the same worthless arms in the pen again this year. Swarzak the only one let go. Not-Amazing.

Ryan is a doofus when it comes to putting together a good pitching staff.

Asdrubal Cabrera has drawn interest from the Giants, Athletics, Mets, Cardinals and Twins, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman tweets.

Agree on Cabrera. On the pen, I can't, Ed. 1) I think this pen is pretty decent as is. They were solid the first half but got totally worn down by the end of the year because the starting staff wasn't giving them innings. 2) We have so many talented arms coming plus the rotation influx (Santana/Meyer/potentially Berrios this year) pushes depth into it. I can't imagine guys like Pelfrey/Milone/May being at least decent in the pen, for instance. And we have so many good young arms that should be here by the end of the year. Tonkin/Melotakis/Reed/Jones/Burdi, etc. I just don't see the point of wasting money on bullpen arms. Maybe a guy or two for ST invites, but that's about all I'd do there.

I think they didn't need to keep some of the current pen guys. Why spend the $ on Duensing? He only struck out 33 guys all season. Walked 20

Complete waste of money.

I have zero confidence in Pelfrey and Milone right now. Pelfrey will find an injury and slink into the sunset. Another complete waste of money.

Which the Twins are very good at. They spend so foolishly.

No disagreement there, Ed. Duensing definitely should have been let loose. Especially when you have both Thielbar and Milone who could serve a lefty role in the pen. And Melotakis coming.

I guess for me I just don't want to block the kids. I think Tonkin was already blocked too much last season and I don't want that to happen again with the next wave of guys coming.

they take chances on guys with injury histories hoping to find a bargain and catch lightning in a bottle.

Most of the time they overpay and the bottle is empty.

Any comments on the Wil Meyers trade?

After a rookie of the year season in 2013, he struggles in 2014 after a wrist injury.

Rays giving up on him this early? He is 24 years old.

Maybe he is upset at the new relations between US and Cuba.

Pads taking risks. "Experts" think Nats hosed the other 2 over.

Prospects. PROSPECTS.

Which Meyers was a "Can't miss"

Missing so far.

Well, I think Myers is a can't miss. He was just hurt this season. The dude OPS'd .831 (OPS+ of 131) as a 22-year old rookie.

But yes, the Nats did really well. Don't really get the Rays' end of this one at all.

Pads are building for the makeup of their team, much like the Rockies have tried to do I think. Myers has prodigious power that will still play at Petco, and Kemp's power is similar. Finding personnel to fit the park. What a concept.

The trade sending outfielder Matt Kemp from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the San Diego Padres has been delayed because a physical revealed arthritis in Kemp's hips, USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale reports.

In the deal that came together on the final day of the winter meetings, the Dodgers agreed to trade Kemp and catcher Tim Federowicz to the Padres in exchange for catcher Yasmani Grandal, right-hander Joe Wieland and 20-year-old right-handed pitcher Zach Eflin, the Padres’ first-round pick in 2012.

Nightengale reports the Padres are waiting for medical clearance before completing the trade.

Arthritis in both hips. Word is, it's severe arthritis. I don't think that trade's going through. At the very least, the Dodgers will need to pay more of Kemp's contract.

The Oakland Athletics traded catcher Derek Norris to the San Diego Padres on Thursday, culminating a busy day for both teams.

Oakland on Thursday dealt catcher Derek Norris, RHP Seth Streich and an international signing slot to San Diego for RHPs Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarez.

Oakland got right-handers Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarez for Norris, right-hander Seth Streich and an international signing slot.

Norris told the Bay Area News Group that he thought the trade would provide him a new start, though he enjoyed his stint with the A's.

"I'm excited; this is a big opportunity," Norris said, according to the Bay Area News Group. "A chance to get out of the platoon."

Norris, an All-Star in his third MLB season, posted career highs of .270 in batting average with 10 homers and 55 RBIs for the A's in 2014.

"It's an exciting time," Norris said. "In speaking with the Padres, they believe they will compete this year.

"I don't know," he added. "But I would not be surprised if they made another move or two to compete in the (National League) West."

The Padres indeed also completed a blockbuster trade Thursday for Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp. They also are nearing a deal for right-hander Josh Johnson.

Meanwhile, the Athletics acquired left-hander Eury De La Rosa from the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash.

The A's also designated right-hander Fernando Rodriguez for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster and released right-hander Jorge De Leon outright.

Norris better learn to throw if he's gonna be the everyday catcher he thinks he is. His performance in that Wild Card game was LeCroyesque.

9:20am: Heyman tweets that third baseman Dustin Peterson and outfielder Mallex Smith will also go to Atlanta in the deal, while the Padres will receive a low-level prospect in addition to Upton.

9:00am: Left-hander Max Fried and second baseman Jace Peterson are headed to the Braves in the trade, reports ESPN’s Jim Bowden (Twitter links). Passan tweets that 2014 second-rounder Michael Gettys has also been mentioned as a potential piece going to Atlanta, though he, like Trea Turner in the Padres’ three-team deal with the Nationals and Rays, would need to be included as a player to be named later.
