The BoSox greaser has option exercised

The Red Sox have exercised their club option over righty Clay Buchholz, the club announced. He’ll cost the club $13MM next year and also comes with one more season of control via option (at $13.5MM).

Buchholz, 31, endured a rough 2014 campaign but bounced back nicely last season, posting a 3.26 ERA over 113 1/3 innings with 8.5 K/9 against 1.8 BB/9. That performance largely made the option decision an easy one, except that — as the innings tally would indicate — the righty again experienced injury issues.

I get ill just looking at him. His hair is as disgusting as it gets. When him and Saltalamacchia were a battery it was tough to watch.

TR getting his tire-kicking shoes on, I bet.

And here's where everyone will say ..... But but but he's expensive, and our salary cap, and it's scary, and .... And .....

Meanwhile one of the top feeders will pay him, he will once again be among the leagues best, and that top feeder will appreciate his work and move on. While we keep throwing out 32 year old reclamation projects who can't get thru four innings most nights.

If the Twins want to be serious contenders this upcoming year, they need to go get Greinke, Price, or Cueto. I think Greinke is the most realistic as he likes being in a small market. If we had an ACE, our rotation would all of a sudden look pretty good with Berrios coming along soon as well.

Now is the time to do that move. Our lineup is about to be really good. Go get an ace and show us you're really in this thing with the objective of winning. If the Twins are winning 90 games a year, TF will be packed every night and it'll pay for the contracts.

Sadly, the Twins will never see how allowing types like those two, to be a two or a three or a four ..... Would make them/us so much better.

There is no way TR would go after Price or Greinke....

We all know it and it is one of the main reasons it is sooooo frustrating to follow the Twins.

KC, a small market team, made some huge midseason acquisitions. Both cost them but it worked out.

Even if we didn't have Nolasco, Santana and Hughes signed for 2+ years, TR would still not pursue Price or Greinke.

He never will. It is not in his DNA.

Cueto stunk for the Royals in the regular season and that is what TR would see.....he wouldn't see that his 9 inning performance in a game the Royals had to have at home......he was a killer in that game. Price was key to Toronto getting to the playoffs but TR would focus in on Price's post season performances. In his mind, none of this front line pitchers would be worth the money.

But Greinke would immediately change the staff.....no doubt.

But we know it won't happen. Not on TR's watch.

Even with the young talent we have, I doubt that TR will ever see a WS as the GM for the Twins.

Exactly my points Miles

Cueto did not help regular season
They paid for a couple really solid postseason showings, and I bet no one in KC regrets one dime.

All of you who think it doesn't matter having an ace ...
Think about the end of our regular season.
We were excited about maybe having an opp to play a one game playoff
We were all devastated to realize we had NO ONE we felt comfy with in that scenario
Greinke gives you a chance to advance. None of our current options would.
Once you advance and once you win it all, no one cares what it cost you.
Anyone bring up salaries at the parade yesterday? Doubt it.
As has been said, if you're gonna own a pro team, get IN or get the hell OUT.

Some pretty decent young talent there.
Strong up the middle.
Couple good arms. Relief to get out of Dodger Blue.
Puigs gonna either be moved or get another manager fired.
Greinkes moving on. Couple oft-injured big contracts are gonna tie that mess up for years.

The White Sox have declined their $10MM club option on shortstop Alexei Ramirez, the team announced. Instead, Chicago will pay him a $1MM buyout.

Fresh off of their World Series triumph, the Royals will open their offseason by bidding adieu to outfielder Alex Rios and righty Jeremy Guthrie. The players officially became free agents today, per an MLBPA press release.

Rios got $11 million in 2015.

That gives them some money to sign Gordon.

Still, they have the Omar Infante albatross contract around their neck....

$7,750,000 for 2016
$8,000,000 for 2017
option year in 2018 for *$10,000,000 with a $2M Buyout

Wonder how they could eat some of his contract, move him and sign Zobrist.

Maybe their dealings with Infante could provide inspiration in what the Twins could do with Mauer.

NAH......Mauer a Twin through 2018.

Maybe after the 2018, Mauer is done, TR steps down and the Twins have a real chance to do something in the playoffs.

Only 3 years to go.....maybe I'll make that my signature line.....only 3 years to go.

Though each player just had his option exercised yesterday, Padres right-hander Joaquin Benoit and Brewers first baseman Adam Lind are both available in trade talks right now, tweets ESPN’s Buster Olney.

While the news isn’t necessarily unexpected, especially in Lind’s case, it could certainly have an impact on the offseason direction of multiple clubs. A team that acquires Lind in the near future — and it’s worth keeping in mind that he was traded from Toronto to Milwaukee on Nov. 1 last year, making a near-future deal plenty possible — would likely be plugging a hole at first base or designated hitter, thereby removing them from the free agent market at said positions. Clubs in possible need of first base/DH help could include the Pirates, Orioles, Rockies, Mariners, White Sox, Astros and A’s, depending on roster decisions made by each club early in the offseason.

Olney further tweets that catcher Jonathan Lucroy and closer Francisco Rodriguez “are available for trade talks” as well, as new Milwaukee GM David Stearns aims to make his team younger and build for the future. Any of the three Brewers players mentioned by Olney would have value to another team, with Lind controlled for one year at $8MM, Rodriguez owed $7.5MM this coming season (plus a $2MM buyout or $6MM club option for 2017) and Lucroy owed $4MM in 2016 (plus a $5.25MM club option for 2017).

As for Benoit, the Padres exercised a $7.5MM club option over him yesterday rather than paying a $1MM buyout. The 38-year-old is coming off three exceptionally strong seasons split between the Tigers and Padres, having worked to a 1.98 ERA with 9.6 K/9, 2.8 BB/9 and a 41.7 percent ground-ball rate.
