Cards would be a perfect landing spot for Gordon.

So would MN

HUGE amounts of pressure on Kepler to advance, given the lack of lefties in this org ready to contribute.

Not needed here
We are golden in the OF

Gordon would supply Gold Glove OF for multiple years. And a lefty bat with power.

OF defense is important. LH power is important

But then again, right, 1 or 2 guys that rarely/never play the OF, or a previous OF that butchers dang near everything, is no big deal.

The #Dodgers' acquisition of the hardest thrower in the game, Aroldis Chapman, for two prospects could signal a shift in focus from a dominant rotation to a good one with a lockdown bullpen. Then again, if the Dodgers keep Chapman and their own dominant closer, Kenley Jansen, it will be a tough challenge for new manager Dave Roberts, as both will want to close and both will be free agents. It wouldn't be surprising if this is just the first shoe to drop and Jansen or Chapman eventually end up with another team, perhaps for a starting pitcher.

I've heard the Dodgers are considering moving Chapman into the rotation.

Maybe they'll take Nolasco off the Twins' hands.

Tigers' contract w/Mark Lowe

Lowe’s contract will guarantee him a hefty $13MM — $6.5MM per year — over the life of the contract, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link). That’s quite a raise for a player who inked a minor league pact last offseason.

Lowe, 32, revived his career in 2015 with an outstanding season. While he was much stronger in Seattle, prior to being traded to the Blue Jays, the veteran reliever was solid all throughout the year. Lowe pitched to an even 1.00 ERA with a dazzling 47-to-11 K/BB ratio in 36 innings with Seattle, prompting the Blue Jays to acquire in him late July. He logged a 3.79 ERA with the AL East champs, striking out 14 against just one walk in 19 innings of regular season work. All told, Lowe posted an excellent 1.96 ERA with 10.0 K/9, 2.0 BB/9 and a 40.3 percent ground-ball rate in the regular season before yielding a pair of earned runs in 4 2/3 postseason frames.

That's an overspend. DET is in a hurry to ramp it back up.

Zimmerman
KRod
Lowe

Is a good start on re-loading.

And they have to. They get it. They cannot waste Miggy's best years.
Unlike another team did when their studs were in their primes.

1:12pm: The Mariners and Red Sox are making progress on a trade that would send Miley to Seattle, Rosenthal now tweets.

11:41am: The Mariners and Red Sox are in trade talks centering around one of Boston’s starters, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link). It’s not clear precisely which player is being targeted, according to Rosenthal, but it’s believed to be either Clay Buchholz or Wade Miley, he adds.

They would have been because they are getting old

But they play be a different set of rules than the Twins....

They go out and strengthen the club and are willing to spend money even though they have already spent a bunch.

We have that self imposed salary cap.

Taylor Rogers, lefty starter, now a bullpen candidate

The only smart thing I could tell he told the media was that Trevor May would be more valuable as a STARTER.

No wonder they want to trade him.

Interesting article in Twins Daily........Shields for Nolasco, would you do it? I say no way. Shields is still owed $65 the next 3 years, and he's regressing. We have plenty of arms. Duffey, Berrios, May, Gibson, Hughes, Santana. Why bring in another for $65m who's on the decline?

Twins are better off just trading Nolasco for a fringe prospect and paying some of his contract.

Addition by subtraction.

IF this market is pitching-starved, they may do better, but it will take a while.
