And they dont' really even need those other has-beens. If they really want to know what they have then play younger guys.

Wham is only around as a recognizable face for ticket buyers.

This stage of Twins history reminds me of the flotsam years that included the likes of Butch Huskey.

Minus any semblance of pitching help coming.

I would agree...

Except:

1. The Pohlads have made it clear that TRyan has the payroll approval for much more than what he is currently spending.
2. $7 Million is not keeping us from pursuing Free Agents. It's the high cost of many free agents (usually far more than they are truly worth).

I do think they could have been a little bit more flexible on what they would get in return for the guy...but still. Money really isn't the reason to be angry here. and unlike Morneau, we can still trade Willingham in the future and get something in return. If by this time tomorrow Morneau isn't traded. we get nothing. He just leaves.

You have to overpay for free agent pitching. Way overpay. That is just the way it is.

Edwin Jackson got $52 and 4 years last season.

Edwin Jackson got $52 and 4 years last season.

Which is why making a claim on Gallardo would have been a smart move, to try and make a deal, while he has a year and an option at LESS than that.

Scott Feldman: 3 and 30M ?

Not even talking Ervin Santana or a couple others with actual live arms.

The other rag-arms in the org, never will-be's or occasionally decent arms simply are fillers. The majority of really good arms are so young and so far away in the Twins org.

yuck. Would he want to come back? Or did Ryan just let him and his agent use him for his rehab season. Knew he would get guaranteed innings here. Ryan should have insisted on an option year at the Twins discretion was included in that deal. There was no upside to the 1-yr deal.

1 He sucks and you paid him to suck during his rehab year and he walks
2 He doesn't suck and he bolts for bigger bucks and a better team elsewhere
3 He doesn't suck, likes it here but you have to overpay so he sticks around
4. He sucks the 1st half, is so-so the 2nd half and you don't have any answers to how good he will be in 2014 and beyond.

Isn't that fun? It was a win-win year for Pelfrey. Got paid well to rehab into shape.

Or does it just seem that way?

Pretty nice additions to the lineup the past couple weeks .. Jeter/ARod/Soriano
The east is just damn fun to watch.
Baltimore is slipping back ... and yet they are light-years better than anyone in the Central not named Detroit.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired third baseman Michael Young on Saturday from the Philadelphia Phillies, a source confirmed to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.

Young, who reportedly cleared waivers earlier this month, has a full no-trade clause, and said before the July 31 trade deadline he was only willing to waive it for a return to the Texas Rangers. But he softened that stance when the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox were rumored to have interest. He is a native of West Covina, Calif., about 20 miles east of Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers went into this season with Luis Cruz as their everyday third baseman, but abandoned that plan as Cruz was batting .127 in 45 games for them. Juan Uribe inherited the job and had helped stabilize the left side of the Dodgers infield by playing excellent defense while batting .268 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs going into Saturday.
It's unclear whether Young will become the Dodgers' everyday third baseman or spell Uribe, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and, maybe, second baseman Mark Ellis.
The Phillies will receive minor league left-hander Rob Rasmussen in return.

Completing a series of roster moves, the Rangers have designated outfielder Joe Benson for assignment, the team announced via press release. The 25-year-old was a second round pick by the Twins in the 2006 draft.

Texas claimed Benson on waivers from Minnesota earlier this year and then optioned him to the minors. Benson's cumulative line in 2013 stands at .215/.294/.362, with seven home runs and nine stolen bases. He had steadily moved through the Twins system and showed promise over a nice minor league run in 2010 (.881 OPS) and 2011 (.879 OPS), but Benson's career stalled after a meager big league showing late in 2011.

Morneau arrived at PNC Park midway through Saturday night's blowout and watched the remainder of the game from the dugout. He got a better view on Sunday, playing first base and batting sixth.
The 2006 AL MVP grounded out in his first plate appearance, walked in his second and then lined a single to right field his third time up. He ended his first game for Pittsburgh with a deep fly to the warning track in the ninth.

Hardy and Valencia with good days for Baltimore.
Gomez with a blast for the BrewCrew
Happy for all the success these guys are having.
