Can't bring a 14 year old son into the clubhouse.....brings back memories of Barry Bonds kid as a bat boy in the WS and about to get run over by a Giants player trying to score before being swept away by a player or coach near home plate.

Strange (on LaRoche)
Not sure if I'm ok with it, upset about it, or numb to it.
Not sure a 14 year old should be in there.
Not sure why a 14 year old shouldn't be in there.
Strange. That's all I got.

Best story of the day ....
Marlins new hitting coach kicking everyone's ass in a HR contest today.
Including everyone's boy Giancarlo Stanton.
There's something hilarious about that.

Read the story. Not sure either. Sounds like Kenny wanted the kid around; just not every day.
Somehow the homework got bulked frequently so he could go on the road.

Sounds like Kenny Williams is in the right on this one. He's fine with kids being around, but this kid was travelling with the team and around the team more than some of the players. IMO they should limit kids in the clubhouse to a once a week or every couple weeks thing. Hit the books at least a little bit, kid.

Ken Williams quote:

There has been no policy change with regards to allowance of kids in the clubhouse, on the field, the back fields during spring training. This young man that we’re talking about, Drake, everyone loves this young man. In no way do I want this to be about him.

I asked Adam, said, “Listen, our focus, our interest, our desire this year is to make sure we give ourselves every opportunity to focus on a daily basis on getting better. All I’m asking you to do with regard to bringing your kid to the ballpark is dial it back.”

I don’t think he should be here 100 percent of the time – and he has been here 100 percent, every day, in the clubhouse. I said that I don’t even think he should be here 50 percent of the time. Figure it out, somewhere in between.

We all think his kid is a great young man. I just felt it should not be every day, that’s all. You tell me, where in this country can you bring your child to work every day?

I respect the man and his decision. I can’t disagree with what (Blaine Boyer) said about Adam as a person. But I take exception to the “evil” part.

Didn't realize Blaine Boyer somehow got involved in this.

Anyway, what Williams says makes perfect sense to me. "Figure it out, somewhere in between."

If LaRoche want to retire, fine, that's great. But let's not make Kenny Williams out to be the bad guy here.

If LaRoche walks away from 13 million, then maybe his heart wasn't in the game anymore. If his priority is his kid, great. He has enough money. this is probably a win win for everyone.

And finish with about 45 rbi's given the all/nothing O's

My prediction is that Buck won't be their manager at the end of the year. Especially if their pitching is subpar.

It was RIDICULOUS the more I looked into it.
It wasn't occasional, it was 100% of the time.
That's ludicrous to think your employer is ok with that.
No place for a teenager. If that's what he's going to quit over, then quit. What an unrealistic view.

Someone who is smart enough to post pictures ... please show some of those shots today of Bonds standing in and amongst the Marlins.
Its amazing.
Players get bigger and stronger every phreaking year.
Barry looks like their little brother.
Putting bat on ball (powerfully), to me ... is still a helluva lot more about skill, than it is about steroids/muscles/bulk.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the Brewers won’t name a closer before Opening Day. Manager Craig Counsell asserted that there’s “no such position as Opening Day closer” and said that left-hander Will Smith and right-hander Jeremy Jeffress will both get cracks at closing games early in the season. Counsell feels that it will behoove the Brewers to take advantage of having two quality late-inning relievers — one right-handed (Jeffress) and one left-handed (Smith) — to create the most advantageous matchups possible in attempting to lock down close victories. Counsell said the ninth inning could “eventually” belong to one pitcher, but he sees no reason to place any sort of restriction on either reliever right now.

Blasphemy
Blasphemy

Make the gods of baseball strike Manager Counsell dead with a lightening bolt for not following the baseball cookbook.

I still maintain that the guy who comes in with runners on base and less than 2 out in the 7th & 8th innings has a tougher job than the guy who starts the 9th with the bases empty and a lead of 1-3 runs.

Agree with you all siding with Williams over Laroche. Laroche is being ridiculous. Rosie is about to reveal some new information from Laroche's perspective. Stay tuned......

But clearly Laroche's heart wasn't in it anymore. He was already contemplating retirement. IMO not very classy blaming Williams rather than just admitting he wasn't very good anymore and it was time.

Steroids isn't necessarily about adding muscle and bulk. It's about keeping the muscles feeling like they are not fatigued. that makes it easier over a long season not to wear down towards the end of the season and keep crushing baseballs.

Roids help the body heal faster.

The St. Louis Cardinals said they're taking allegations that a gay minor-league pitcher abandoned baseball because of homophobia ''very seriously.''

Tyler Dunnington, whom the Cardinals selected in the 2014 draft, told Outsports.com in a report published Wednesday that he heard derogatory comments from college coaches and later unidentified teammates in the pros. He said that ''each comment felt like a knife to my heart.''

General manager John Mozeliak told The Associated Press in a statement Thursday that he's ''very disappointed'' to learn about the 24-year-old's experiences, adding that ''our hope is that every player, staff member and employee feels they are treated equally and fairly.

''Given the nature of these allegations I will certainly look into this further as well as speak with Billy Bean of the Commissioner's office for further assistance on this matter. ... We will take this very seriously,'' Mozeliak said.

Dunnington spent most of the summer after he was drafted with the Cardinals' rookie-level affiliate in the Gulf Coast League, a team based in Jupiter, Florida. He said he felt uncomfortable revealing his sexual orientation to the Cardinals and retired a year ago before spring training for ''my own sanity.''

Dunnington, who was 3-2 with a 3.41 ERA in 18 games as a reliever, told the website that he should have worked to ''help change the game'' and that quitting ''isn't the way to handle adversity.'' Dunnington didn't immediately respond to an email from the AP.

In 2013, Major League Baseball established a policy prohibiting players from harassing or discriminating against other players based on sexual orientation. Bean, baseball's Ambassador for Inclusion, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he's sought out Dunnington to discuss and understand his experience, though Bean said there was ''no precedent'' for an investigation of this nature.

Dunnington told the website that in one conversation, a Cardinals teammate mentioned he had a gay brother. Dunnington said that after ''some supportive talk,'' two other teammates questioned how someone could be friends with a gay person and ''even mentioned ways to kill gay people.''

''This is something that reminds me I have a lot of work to do, and it's a challenge,'' said Bean, a former big leaguer who publicly revealed in 1999 that he is gay and joined the commissioner's office a year later.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said he had been told about the allegations and that the team would ''try to figure out ways so they can have an atmosphere where they can be as good as they can be.''
