Chicago White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf released a statement Sunday to address the ongoing drama surrounding the retirement of Adam LaRoche.

LaRoche announced his retirement last week after team vice president Ken Williams asked that his son, Drake, no longer have a presence in the White Sox clubhouse. According to LaRoche, the White Sox had agreed that Drake could be around the team prior to signing him.

In his statement, Reinsdorf said that he has talked to LaRoche and that he still holds him in high regard.

Reinsdorf also addressed how the situation has been handled by his front office personnel, saying that he still trusts their abilities, despite recent miscommunication.

“I continue to have complete faith in the skills and abilities of the leadership group of our baseball operations department in Ken Williams, Rick Hahn and Robin Ventura. I also appreciate the passion and commitment to one another shown by our players, Robin, our coaching staff and our front office,” said Reinsdorf. “As with many things in life, much of this was a result of miscommunication and misunderstanding rather than this being a case of anyone not telling the truth. I do not believe there is anyone to directly blame in this situation. While there is no doubt this might have been handled differently, the fact remains that this is an internal matter that we have discussed and now resolved.

“Per my request, White Sox employees will no longer discuss this matter publicly. I felt it was appropriate to release this statement to close the issue for everyone in the organization – from the front office to the players in the clubhouse – so we can focus on Opening Day and winning baseball games for our fans. I am fully confident this matter will soon be behind us and that we will grow even stronger and more united as a team and as an organization.”

This Adam LaRoche thing reminded me that old show....the Corn Chip and Eddie's Father...or whatever the heck it was called

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGu0m08Etm8

It was called the "Courtship of Eddie's Father". There was a move made in either the late 1950's or early 1960's and then they made a TV show about it. Bill Bixby was Eddie's father. I don't remember the child actor who played Eddie. I have seen reruns on one occasion on TV Land a couple of years ago. They may still play them now and then.

I know it is, Mark. There was a kid who lived across the street from me back in the day who called it the "The Corn Chip and Eddie's Father"
This LaRoche thing somehow made me think of it. And you are right. Bill Bixby played the dad. That guy had some range. He also played the Hulk!
Anyway.......

The more I look at it the more I have to take my hat off to Kenny Williams. Obviously, there were complaints about this and Williams was the fall guy. He never revealed any names. He was correct in addressing the issue because it was an unnecessary indulgence for LaRoche and an interference. As far as Chris Sale goes, the guy is a jackass for amplifying the situation. I would love to see the Twins score a dozen runs off him on a steamy 100-degree day. I'd love nothing more than to watch him stagger off the mound completely shellshocked, down 14 runs in the third.

I hope that this well set a precedent in MLB that children of players are not guaranteed to ever be a part of the locker room. And no GM should ever negotiate with a player who requests such a thing. Personally, I think this LaRoche guy is a piece of work. A freak.

Get this. Steve Stone just relayed this quote from Chris Sale:

"Babe Ruth left the game of baseball. Baseball went on. It will go on without Adam LaRoche's son."

If you think that is bad, Adam Eaton had the most preposterous comment of all-time. I was listening to the Patrick Reusse radio program (I know?) this afternoon. They played a one-minute interview of Adam Eaton regarding the departure of Adam LaRoche and his son Drake. He said he was deeply saddened by the clearing of Drake's locker and the loss of the White Sox "clubhouse leader". Yes, he claimed Drake was the inspiration to all of the White Sox players. And by losing him, they were losing a huge presence in the locker room, dugout and on the team plane. "Drake is irreplaceable".

Reusse correctly identified Eaton as a complete idiot whose comments were made outside of any advice or direction by team management. Obviously, they were made before GM Williams who has officially put closure to this embarrassing issue. How can a ML player claim to be inspired by some 14 year old kid. No wonder the White Sox sucked last season.

I heard that clip too on Mackey & Judd. Hilarious. Eaton actually said "Drake has more playoff experience than almost anyone on this club."

Rangers send hat trick of top prospects -- Joey Gallo, Jurickson Profar and Nomar Mazara -- to minors. Texas must be loaded.

There goes his trade value.

Keep Quentin. Deal him for a prospect at mid-season

All amount making money for the team. The Twins FO tries to pretend like fielding a winning team is front and center but at least everyone on this forum, except maybe Zoilo and Doug from Hawley know better.

The Tigers “are emphasizing depth” in the starting rotation and have some interest in veteran righty Kyle Lohse, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports (Twitter link). Lohse is a client of Scott Boras, who has a well-documented connection with Tigers owner Mike Ilitch.

The Marlins were the only other club connected to the 37-year-old this winter, and the quiet rumor mill probably isn’t a surprise given Lohse’s age and his rough 2015 season. He posted a 5.85 ERA and 6.4 K/9 over 152 1/3 innings with the Brewers, a performance that cost him his rotation job. The largest issue seemed to be a 15.3% homer rate that was well above Lohse’s 10% career average, though a .314 BABIP and 68.7% strand rate also added to Lohse’s misfortune. While his ERA indicators (5.12 FIP, 4.48 xFIP, 4.43 SIERA) weren’t particularly impressive, they show that Lohse’s 5.85 ERA was at least a bit misleading.

Didn't even carry a cellphone/selfieshooter in those days.

Oh well. The memory is the most important part.

Absolutely

7:28pm: Montero has indeed been placed on waivers, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports (via Twitter). The Mariners will make an official announcement tomorrow once the 48-hour waiver period has passed, according to MLB.com’s Greg Johns (Twitter).

12:46pm: While there is no official word on the matter, it appears that the Mariners have placed Jesus Montero on waivers, as Bob Dutton of The News Tribune writes. The Mariners declined to speak about Montero’s status on Sunday morning, but his locker in the clubhouse was empty.

When asked about Montero’s whereabouts, manager Scott Servais told reporters that the designated hitter is “spending a day with his family.” Montero’s absence on Sunday coupled with the news that Dae-Ho Lee has been added to the 40-man roster seems to suggest that former top prospect is out of the picture in Seattle.

The Mariners traded right-handed pitcher Michael Pineda for the 26-year-old prior to the 2012 season. Since then, he’s disappointed by accruing -1.4 WAR over parts of four seasons. He did enjoy an extremely successful stint at Triple-A last season, hitting .355/.398/.569 in 430 plate appearances.

Can't be. Didn't FanGraphs predict they'd win less than 80 games???

The courtship of Eddies father is actually the first television series I remember seeing.

I know Sale is quite a good pitcher. I don't know about him being a jackass. This post made me laugh imagining the Twins getting 14 off him by the third inning and Sale finally getting pulled from the game.
My best guess it never happens.

Chris Sale came close last season to leaving the mound shellshocked after facing the Twins.
His line last season compared to his career line against the Twins reveals just how well they hit him last season.

Very nice numbers against him. Even the career 4.15 ERA against us isn't good.

In a surprising move, the Atlanta Braves have granted Nick Swisher his unconditional release. The former All-Star first baseman was acquired by Atlanta in a trade last August along with outfielder Michael Bourn for third baseman Chris Johnson.

Some day Nick will be on TV.
