ORIGINAL: SoMnFan Anyone see the Reyes error last night in the mets game? Strangest ever. Wtf was it he was trying to do there? Blatant throwing of a game? His action makes no sense That looked like Olivia's softball team. Monday night, JV game, 5 unearned runs off her. SIX dropped popups on a non-windy evening. unreal Came in last night, ground ball...error on throw, runner to 3rd, runner on first. Next pitch, catcher airmails it into LF on a pickoff attempt. LF stands and watches..kid who has barely played EVER. both score before the ball even gets to the cut off. Olivia got pissed. Struck the next 6 batters out. Nice job Olivia!! thanks Ok, this is somewhat unbiased....but some of you who know me will understand I'm not bragging. Her softball team is young. 1 jr pitcher, 2 fr pitchers, 1 soph pitcher who cries when told to pitch(only out because parents make her)...and Olivia, an 8th grader. On the JV team(as they're now referred), she is the best softball player. By a decent margin. Hadn't played SS at all in pre-season. First game she plays 2nd, and the SS was horrid. So she's played flawless SS since, when not pitching. One of the other pitchers plays SS when Olivia pitches. Can't field a ball to save her soul. all these dropped popups, and it's not just the JV. Unreal. I know they're sticking with veterans at this point. May change yet this year. But she's probably top 5 if she played varsity. Trying to not get some egos dented. They're denting them w/incompetent play enough on their own. Yesterday they scratched out 3 hits. Olivia had a walk/double/single in her first 3 at bats in the JV game. And she's just getting her hitting together. Came in after pitching Monday, because the coach was tired of ball 4, ball 8, ball 12 from the other kid. Said in the meeting at the mound, "I want to get some innings in tonight, so Olivia is pitching." Ouch. Yah, they're not world beaters. At some point, I hope they decide to cut the cord with a couple of the dead weight. Olivia in her typical low key approach, "I hope I'm doing enough to earn varsity playing time NEXT YEAR." Got put on the "list of reserves" for the game last night first time. They dress them all, and coach adds 2 or 3 for the varsity game, if needed. She was proud of that accomplishment. Some of the HS girls are showing her how not to act. Thankfully, she's figuring that out on her own.
