Status: offline 		Astros ace and reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander has been diagnosed with a forearm strain and has been shut down, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. An MRI yesterday revealed the strain. Manager Dusty Baker told reporters that Verlander will be shut down “for a couple of weeks” before he is re-evaluated.

Verlander started the Astros’ season opener on Friday and notched his first win of 2020, throwing six innings of two-run baseball, allowing just three hits and striking out seven. In that start against the Mariners, Verlander’s fastball averaged 94.9 mph and reached as high as 96.7, according to Statcast. Last year, his average fastball velocity was 94.6 mph. He threw 73 pitches, but there weren’t any outward signs that the 37-year-old suffered an injury. Per Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle, Verlander later told the Astros that his right arm was “tender” during Friday’s game.

He was scheduled to make his next start on Wednesday against the Dodgers. As of now, Baker and the Astros haven’t decided who will replace Verlander on the bump.

Verlander had already encountered his fair share of health troubles during the spring, with a lat strain and right groin surgery forcing him to rehab during the season’s coronavirus-necessitated delay, but he recovered well and was a full go in Spring Training 2.0.

Especially it was Clevinger all mad.

Pretty simple formula.

Get a bunt down, hit a sac fly. You're up or win if you hold the other guys.


At the softball Nationals, game I saw had international rules.

bunt, bad throw, run scored.

And the other team wilted. Gave up 5 more.

Bottom of the inning, same thing. They almost came back, losing 12-9

They need to isolate those that have it and call up minor league players to replace them. If that isn't possible they should forfeit the games.

Personal responsibility has to become the new normal.

No way would it have exploded this bad, this quick, if they all were wearing masks and keeping their distance in the clubhouse and out in public.

Sucks but until there is a vaccine, this is part of everybody's life and so are the consequences.

Status: offline 		The future of the shortened 2020 MLB season is already under threat, and it’s been one weekend. On Monday the league cancelled the Miami Marlins’ scheduled home opener against the Baltimore Orioles after the sources revealed the Marlins had 10 more positive Covid-19 tests inside the organization, adding to the four who already tested positive ahead of the team’s series against the Phillies.

There were already signs of a breakout on the Marlins heading into Sunday’s game against the Phillies and the two teams played anyway. Now, there is a giant snowball effect. Not only are there all of these positive cases on the Marlins, but we are awaiting to see how this has affected the Phillies. Plus, as Alex Speier pointed out, this has also put hotel staffers where the Marlins were staying in jeopardy. On top of that, the Yankees are scheduled to head to Philadelphia tonight to start a series. That must be postponed.

If that many tested positive....Where? when?

What is the turn-around for the virus testing in MLB?
Did someone get it Thursday/test positive Saturday? How long have some of them been "positive" and they didn't get tested?

There's no way they test these guys every day.

Our community just sent in a survey(on school). It will interesting to see what the results are. A couple more positive tests have came in the last week(we were at 2 total in our county)

It's like the school situation.

Experts say that abuse is going unreported, kids are going hungry if not for school lunch.

But, what if a teacher or janitor or administrator dies from Covid during a school year.

If I was in Verlander's situation I think I would have retired already and devoted my time to spending my money and banging Kate. That's what makes these professional athletes different from me. They have that competitive edge that just doesn't quit.

Well, Betsy DeVos says kids are like covid-19 buffers. Maybe we should all walk around with a school kid strapped to our backs. That will kill off the virus in no time.
