Here's an extraordinary line from Jose Quintana earlier today:

Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Quintana 0.0 7 9 9 2 0 1 30.00

How was his ERA only 30.00?

If my calculations are correct, his ERA should have been infinity.

I'm guessing it's his ERA for the spring.

Wonder if Dozier or Florimon is closer?

Very cool that the Royals have given a ML promotion to the long time minor league manager who has mentored a couple dozen of their guys thru the years.
36 years in the minors.

Mike Scioscias kid was traded for Wayne Gretzkys kid yesterday in a blockbuster deal involving Class Aers
Something about that makes me chuckle

The Tigers will be without setup man Bruce Rondon for the 2014 season, as Tom Gage of the Detroit News reports (via Twitter) that the flamethrowing right-hander will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Pretty awesome.

What perserverance. What a thrill it must be for his father, after losing ALL of his other sons to MD. It was dusty in the room when I was reading that one.

Dodgers optioned C Tim Federowicz to Triple-A Albuquerque. The 26-year-old had been expected to serve as the primary backup to A.J. Ellis, though a brutal performance this spring where he hit just .077 (2-for-26) could be the cause for the demotion. Drew Butera will begin the season as the backup catcher for the Dodgers.

On a team loaded with pitching, and some pretty damn good hitting, Butera makes sense.
Watch the Twins somehow spin that "their" way works.

Yup. "We knew Drew would find success elsewhere. We didn't want to let him go but had no other choices."

SYDNEY -- The Los Angeles Dodgers won their first two games of the season, sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia, but there were signs of some discord before the team jetted back to Los Angeles.Yasiel Puig struck out in the ninth inning of Sunday's 7-5 win and then did not return to right field in the bottom half of the inning. Before the game, Mattingly told reporters that Puig "grabs something every time he takes a swing and misses."

Asked what injury caused Puig to leave Sunday's game, Mattingly said, "I guess his back." He then seemed to react sarcastically when asked about the severity of the injury.

"Shoulder yesterday, back today, so I'm not sure if they're going to get him tests or get him to the MRI Monday or a bone scan on Tuesday, maybe," Mattingly said. "I'm not quite sure what we'll do. We may not do anything. I'm not sure."

Puig, who batted .122 in spring training, busted out of his slump by going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs Sunday, but he also made decisions that turned into two ridiculous outs on the bases. Puig dashed for second on his RBI single in the third inning. Dee Gordon was held at third base, and Puig was thrown out easily. When a ball trickled away from catcher Miguel Montero in the sixth, Puig broke for third and was out by 10 feet.

"It was a rough day," Mattingly said.

After the first base running gaffe, Adrian Gonzalez grabbed Puig as he was leaving the field and talked to him. The two players were bantering loudly in Spanish in the Dodgers' clubhouse following the game.

"Anything that we would do with Yasiel wouldn't be something I would talk to you all about," Mattingly said.

Puig showed up to spring training 26 pounds heavier than he had been at the end of last season, something Mattingly said wasn't necessarily a problem but would bear watching. Mattingly twice benched Puig for disciplinary reasons last season.

Novel idea.

I noticed Gardy was running down Hicks to the media yet again yesterday. Amazing.

Can't wait to see a real baseball team when we watch the Dodgers kick the Twins in April. Puig is a player.

Twins have some players, could be better than average if the (#$&*(#*$&#(& manager would just knock it off.
