Initially, the report was the Minnesota Vikings wanted to restructure defensive tackle Letroy Guion's deal this offseason.

On Thursday, the Vikings cut Guion outright, forgoing $300,000 in dead money, per ESPN, and adding about $4 million to their cap space. The Vikings now have upwards of $40 million in room to spend this offseason after also releasing tight end John Carlson earlier this week.

Guion, 27 in June, underwhelmed as the Vikings' answer at nose tackle, even relinquishing playing time to 33-year-old Kevin Williams at the position later in the season. Williams registered 2.5 sacks from the nose in a Nov. 7 win over the Washington Redskins. Per ESPN, Guion had already been paid more than $2 million of his guaranteed money in a three-year, $9 million deal he signed in 2012.

The Vikings also released receiver Greg Childs, who spent 2013 on the physically unable to perform list and spent nearly 16 months off the practice field since tearing both patellar tendons in his knees in a training camp scrimmage before the 2012 season.

The Vikings selected Childs in the fourth round of 2012's draft and Guion in the fifth round of 2008's draft.

Cassel signs, 2 years/10 mill. Ponder should be gone shortly, I would hope.

Just one set of bleacher sets, for the most part. Seems so weird, but so exciting at the same time.

Kind of weird. It was just going up when I went to school at the U and now 30 some years later it's almost gone.

Monson: Everson Griffen might have higher ceiling than Brian Robison #Vikings (via the 1500 ESPN SportsWire)

I would hope so, else they grossly overpaid.

And, please get rid of the fishing celebration, Robison. Bleh

SMF, did you catch the Tark quote yesterday? Said Manziel is the QB most like him.

If he goes in the top 3 picks or so, I'll accept that the Vikings probably couldn't have gotten him reasonably. 4-7, I'll be irritated. I might cry if he's there at 8 and we pass.

It's almost inevitable we will mess this up, no?
Cassells here for two more, seems like a guy who would help tutor the young man.
Would certainly improve my outlook on the future here.
Not saying it would guarantee success, but damn, it would be interesting. In a fun way.

Will be net interesting to see where Eric Decker goes today.
Couple big names moving on FA day.
Football is so different. Revis is no longer the savior in TB I guess.
400 available FAs .....
We truly do cheer for laundry these days don't we?
No real long term loyalty anymore.

Sad to me. The guys that stay a long time, like Jared Allen(which is long, but not THAT long) go bye-bye too quickly.

Life-long guys on a team is near impossible any more.

It does allow teams to improve quickly.

If your front office has a clue.

The turnover on teams is pretty astounding, no doubt about it.

All that said, would you guys do this hypothetical trade (I mean really hypothetical; it would never happen for a million reasons)? AD for Revis, today, straight up.

Nope. Revis is not the guy he was a couple years ago. Peterson will be that way soon enough.

If Manziel is around, they really need to take him. Charge up the fan base. Bortles doesn't do much for me.

Agree, Ed. I'm intrigued by the talent, but I'm not convinced Revis was what he used to be, and it seems like it would add another potential headache -- seems like the guy holds out every other year. I do hope they make a splash in FA by signing a solid CB (whoever that might be, I have no idea).

On Twitter, Master T suggested a sign and trade -- Cook for Revis. That I could get on board with.

Where do they sign up for that one? Hurry while he has value.

Hell, I'd be happy if they did a sign and trade with him for a ham sandwich.

I can't see them taking on his salary. The Bucs have been trying to renegotiate it to make it easier to trade him.

I'm guessing they still have roughly $18 million left, maybe a little more. Should be enough to get each of those and the draft picks, no?
