Just get it figured out and pick the right one. Obviously they excel in MN with developing QBs like the Twins do with developing power hitters.

Vikings have used 10 different starting QB's since 2007. 3rd most in NFL. Only Browns and Raiders have used more

I'm with ya, Scott. I mean, I'd get behind him if that's what they end up doing. But I want him less and less. I'd take Carr, Bortles, and Manziel all above him, probably in that order.

Seven or eight of the teams in the draft's top 10 seem to be willing and in the mood to either trade up or down (No. 3 Jacksonville and No. 5 Oakland appear the best bets to stick), but I'd put the label of most likely to vacate their spot on the No. 8 Vikings, who clearly are trying to deal downward. Logically that means Minnesota is not sold on any of the quarterbacks at that pick, which closes the first round's opening quarter, as it were.
The Vikings figure to get their wish, because at No. 8 they're in prime position for teams seeking to climb up into the neighborhood where either the third-rated offensive tackle/lineman (Michigan's Tyler Lewan or Notre Dame's Zack Martin) or Pitt's highly regarded defensive tackle, Aaron Donald, should be available. No. 19 Miami, the No. 12 Giants and No. 9 Buffalo make possible trade partners for an offensive tackle, and Minnesota might get a phone call and an on-the-clock offer from either No. 16 Dallas or No. 14 Chicago, both of whom are known to covet Donald.
If the Vikings are able to deal down, maybe their intended target will be Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles in a lower slot, but new offensive coordinator Norv Turner is also known to think highly of Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Minnesota's second-round pick is No. 40, and that may be just beyond the range of where Garoppolo will be available.

I will say that it's nice to have a GM that (1) recgonizes the value of draft picks generally and (2) recognizes the talent level in the upper reaches of the draft. We've picked five guys in the first round in the last two years, four of whom appear to be excellent pick so far; the fifth hasn't had the opps, but may well reach that status.

I've always been a Spielman fan. Yes, he's gotta find a QB, but that's the toughest thing to do. And that's really about the only big knock you can have on the guy. He hasn't exactly had a ton of opps to do so thus far.

That's true too, Dave. I guess I meant value-wise or pick-wise. He hasn't "missed" on any big LB with a pick. But you're right that it's a glaring weakness that's been ignored too long. I think that finally changes this year, especially with our new coach and scheme.

I do think that was at least partially on Frazier. I'm not sure he valued LB's all that much in his system.

Because he never drafts any. 4th round is the highest pick he's spent and that was after 7 years.

Really? LBer is vital to the Tamp2. I can't think of a single instance of it being successful without a rangy stud MLB.

NEW YORK -- On the eve of the NFL draft, Johnny Manziel said he has no idea which team will pick him but that any quarterback-needy team that passes on him will regret it.
"I believe they will, personally," he said Wednesday at a league-sponsored function in Lower Manhattan. "I know in my heart how good I want to be and how committed I am to this game."

The former Texas A&M star, projected as a possible top-10 pick, is confident he has alleviated concerns about his off-the-field habits. Clearly, though, he's still bothered by the perception that he's a schoolyard quarterback.
"I see there's room for me to improve, but to say I'm just a backyard-football quarterback, I don't think you do what I did in college and do some of those things [with that style]," he told about 40 reporters. "I don't think that's extremely fair. I hear it, but for me, I know it's all about my work ethic and my will to get better. That's very alive and inside me."
No player in the draft has been scrutinized more than Manziel, arguably the most polarizing prospect in this year's class. In a 20-minute interview, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner mentioned several times that he just wants to play football again, wherever it might be.
"I don't want to be what I was in college," he said. "Obviously, I want to be better."
Manziel has been hounded by questions regarding his celebrity status, about whether he cares more about the limelight than football. He believes he's done "a great job" throughout the scouting process of erasing those concerns.
"[Teams] have been getting to know me on a more personal level, and I've answered every question, anything they've wanted to hear from me -- so there's nothing for me to hide," he said. "I don't think it's wrong of me to enjoy my life and have fun. But throughout this whole process, I've continued to work hard and do that thing I need to do to become a better player."
Manziel has been linked to the Cleveland Browns, who own the fourth and 26th picks. He said he had a positive meeting with coach Mike Pettine and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, adding, "I think it would be great" to play in Cleveland. But he added that he'll be happy wherever he lands.
"Whether it's 1 or 200," he said, "I'm just ready to get back on the football field and start playing football."
There has been speculation about the Dallas Cowboys, although owner Jerry Jones all but ruled it out Tuesday. Manziel said he grew up a Cowboys fan in Texas and he expressed his admiration for Jones, whom he described as "a huge figure in the state of Texas."
But the Cowboys aren't picking until 16th, and, "I'd obviously like to go a little bit sooner than that."
Manziel said teams "are holding their cards really close to the vest," so he has no clue about the latest draft buzz. Until Thursday night, he expects to enjoy his time in New York.
"People from Kerrville, Texas, don't make it to this stage," he said. "It's just really crazy for me to think that I'm here."

I think whoever the Vikings take at QB will be a bust. Speilman's history is so god awful at QB if I was the owner I would ask him who his two top QB's are and tell him he can't draft either one.

I think they may be, but that will be more of a reflection of this questionable draft class for QB's than Spielman himself IMO.

One of the best days of the year. And I'm not even a huge football guy. Football is a distant, distant third to baseball and basketball for me. But I'd watch the NFL draft before I watched 10 superbowls or any game. Love it.
