Same site puts us at 27 in D, 17th in ST's and a negative TO ratio.

Offense is not our problem.

But we can all see where our offense can improve greatly.

We would play action pass two times in a row and have 15-20 yard gains and then it was like we were obligated to run Cook.

No. Keep doing what is working.

Second and short (1 or 2 yards)

Run anyway

Rarely PA and a long ball

One of the better developments was Conklin's emergence.

Well play action only works if you establish a run game....

Eventually the defense will not bite on the run fake and put more effort into covering every receiver.

Still have to run to some extent and be good at it for PA to work.

1998 we were dominant. We led a lot. We won 15 games, scored 556 pts gave up 296. We ran a lot because we got those big leads. Not so much in 2020. We ran because of that stubborn stick in Zim's keister. How many people complained about 2nd and 1 always being a plunge into the line this year? I don't have the proof and I'm not going to take the time to try and find it, but if you compare the 2 years and try to equate that they ran and passed a similar amount, my point of differentiation is still accurate. One team was a front runner and the other wasn't.

So it made sense then to run the human enema on 2nd and 1.

Have to establish that run game.

I didn't say they picked the right time to run. Just that running is essential to a successful Play Action passing game.

Brilliant! I would never have known that. Thanks for helping me out!

Give Captain Obvious commercials a try. You're on the right track.

Correct.

I was just saying that we didn't fall behind because of the run. Poor defense, TOs and a piss poor Oline were the reasons.

#Vikings coach Mike Zimmer when I asked him if they need more vets in 2021 "I probably miscalculated some things going into this season, when we lost all the guys that we lost the year before.. We had a complete overhaul on defense & sometimes that happens when you get to Year 7"

Year 7

time to overhaul but we didn't get enough veterans

AKA

I hate young defensive players cuz I have to coach them up, which I suck at.

Those aren't mutually exclusive options. The Vikings just set an all time low for sacks and the defense was one of the worst in football. Even with our lousy guard play, the offense finished 4th in the league.

According to ESPN's stats, we had the 4th BEST offense in the league. With that Oline. Imagine if we upgraded that to average.

4th in Yds. 11th in Pts. Last I checked, you don't get in the playoffs because you had a lot yards.

I get that....but that was without Hunter, Pierce, Barr, two rookies at CB, lackadaisical play from Anthony Harris, Kendricks gone for several games.... ONE Pass rusher and an 3 DT should be all we need on the DLine. As they can use Wonnum, and Odenigbo in more of a rotation and we should be fine there.

The Predraft bullshit must be already in gear. What he really wants is a safety. He loves him some DBs

We have different thoughts on what is needed for the D Line. One pass rusher isn't enough in my book. Wonnum showed promise, but so did Odenigbo two years ago and he took a massive step backwards.

One site's first mock draft has MN taking the MIA/FLA Defensive end in the first round.

Draft is not very top heavy with edge rushers.

Pick #14 should be Wyatt Davis G, OSU. But if Surtain III CB is there Zim won't be able to resist.

One site's first mock draft has MN taking the MIA/FLA Defensive end in the first round.

That would be Gregory Rousseau

He reminds me of: The player the Vikings' Danielle Hunter has become at the NFL level. Rousseau is much more polished and productive than Hunter was at LSU. However, Hunter has developed into one of the league's premier pass rushers since entering the league in 2015. Rousseau has a comparable build/frame and they are similar athletes on the field. Both players annihilate tight ends and have the ability to convert speed to power off the edge. I believe Rousseau has even more upside at the next level. He has the tools to emerge as a perennial All-Pro player.
