Vielma has been claimed by the Giants, Darren Wolfson of KSTP News reports via twitter.

The former Twins infield prospect adds a bit of depth to a Giants team that has been in dire need of a defensively-minded backup infielder lately. Both Kelby Tomlinson and Orlando Calixte have been underwhelming with the glove this season, so if Vielma can develop even a replacement-level offensive skillset, his defensive wizardry could make him a solid utility option for San Francisco.

2:54 pm: Recently-designated Twins infielder Engelb Vielma has been claimed off waivers by an unknown National League club, tweets Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Basically a trade, Vielma for Adrianza. Good deal for MN, Adrianza is proving he can hit.

Just don't need him the OF. That's not his spot, but they have to at this point. Dumb.

Adrianza has been a great add this year
When used correctly as Ed noted
Besides, two great names we get a lot of mileage out of .....

•The Orioles have added former Twins lefty Ryan O’Rourke, according ESPN.com’s Buster Olney (via Twitter). While the report doesn’t specify, it seems reasonable to presume that it’s a minors pact given that O’Rourke missed all of 2017 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old struggled with free passes in his first taste of the majors in 2015, but settled down upon returning in the following season. In 25 frames in the 2016 campaign, O’Rourke posted a 3.96 ERA with 24 strikeouts and six walks. It’s still a fairly minimal sample, but he has been pretty stingy against lefty hitters in the majors, holding them to a .134/.244/.239 slash through eighty total plate appearances.
•Fellow former Minnesota southpaw Jason Wheeler is joining Korea’s Hanwha Eagles, as Yonhap News reports. He’ll earn $575K to head to the KBO for the coming season. Wheeler, 27, has scant MLB time, with just two outings in the 2017 season. He spent most of the year in the upper minors, working to a 4.37 ERA over 94 2/3 innings with 6.9 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9.

Free agent outfielder Oswaldo Arcia has agreed to a deal with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan, FanRag’s Jon Heyman tweets (citing Arcia’s agent, Martin Arburua). The former top prospect will take home a $1.7MM salary plus up to $300K worth of incentives on a one-year deal that contains a mutual option for the 2019 campaign.

The Braves and infielder/outfielder Danny Santana have agreed to a minor league contract, reports SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo (on Twitter). Atlanta non-tendered Santana last month rather than pay him a projected arbitration salary of $1.1MM (per MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz). Santana is represented by the Beverly Hills Sports Council.

Former farmhand

The Giants have acquired infielder Engelb Vielma from the Pirates, John Dreker of Pirates Prospects reports on Twitter. Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review first tweeted that Vielma was on the move; he had been designated for assignment recently.

Then maybe the Twins can trade for McCutchen mid-season for even less!

The Rangers are in agreement on a minor-league deal with third baseman Trevor Plouffe, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand (via Twitter). Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic initially tweeted that there was an agreement, but shortly thereafter issued a correction in a subsequent tweet, saying the sides were in discussions.

With Plouffe it could all be fluff.
Or with Fluff it could all be Plouffe

Great.
A name we know, a name we love.
Take our focus off of the onfiled play, or how we’re trying to get better, and focus our energy on our Twins Fandom, and the good old days of the M&M Boys, the Division Titles, the Great Gardy.

I’m telling you, don’t fall for it, it’s a trap.

Even the mouse enjoys the cheese for a second before the spring snap falls.

You’re right though too.
If they’re going to pull that old stunt on us, at least we get more Monroe and less circle me Bert.
I remember at the beginning, how funny and fresh Bert was.
Little did I know they were just keeping me distracted from the fact that Marty Cordova was our ONLY good player.
And he wasn’t all that. I’ll bet his SABr stats were terrible.

Nonetheless, in 12 years they probably throw old Byron Buxton into the booth
to distract me from the fact that our best player is our SS, Nick Punto Jr.

and you know there’s a Nick Punto Jr.
A certain type of jerk always has to name his kid after himself.

See Donald Trump

So I looked it up.
There is not (yet) a Nick Punto Jr

He named his kid Nash.

Nash Punto.

Am I just being a jerk, or is that EVEN worse than Nick Punto Jr?

I’m ok if you say I’m just being a jerk,

Only Nash I have ever known was Kelly's rich boyfriend on Cheers before she became attracted to Woody.

There was also the Nash Bridges character played by Don Johnson.
