Only FTM so far. CRapids is in good shape for making it based on 2nd half, only a game out.

NB,nope. under .500 by a couple games, 14 1/2 out.

Roch is 3 games out of wild-card

Eliz has a 2 1/2 game lead right now in their division.

GCL is out.Way under .500

Vasquez pitches 7 inning no-hitter for NB tonite, 1 IF error was only base-runner. In first game of DH, Berrios looked good; not quite as sharp as last time I saw him - top speeds of 92-93 with enough changeups to fool batters. (But, I have to say that the opponent Harrisburg (Washington) is not a good team).

Twins: Byron Buxton, one of the top prospects in baseball, flew to Fort Myers, Florida, to begin his recovery after a nasty outfield collision at Double-A New Britain. GM Terry Ryan said Buxton had a stiff neck and some headaches, but nothing more serious. Ryan said he doubts Buxton will play again this season.
"We're all fortunate it ended up the way it ended up," Ryan said. "We've seen collisions in our day, but that one ranked right up there."

I was under the impression the decision to shut down Buxton for the season had already been made.

Shut him down if it hasn't.

I would be cautious for any baseball until spring training, be it the AFL or any winter league ball.

AFL........all I can remember is Kubel's injury.

He probably has built up arm strength the way Ben Revere used to....

Remember smilin Ben's offseason program included throwing a football......

That worked out pretty well.

Ben Revere....only 300 hitter with a sub 300 obp. Is that mathematically possible??????

For the record; he does have football skills. He can throw a football 82 yards.

Right decision indeed. This is a potential generational talent. No reason to risk his future for a few games at AA. And honestly, he's still going to come into ST and have a very good chance to make this roster within a couple months. More likely after the Super 2 deadline has passed around June. Hopefully Hicks can hold the fort in CF until then.

Me thinks we won't be seeing Buxton in a Twins uniform until 2016.

When is it reasonable to project kohl stewarts ml debut?

I thought AFT stood for alcohol, firearms and licorice.

A little road weary still

I would hope he's a September call up next year. I'm a bit concerned about the way he's racked up injuries. Part of being a pro athlete is staying healthy. There have been a number of talented kids who never lived up to the hype because of injuries a lot the way. Wethrock provided the example of Dan Driessen. This is why I am careful with labeling kids like Buxton: STUD. He's more like a wild mustang hoping to be a stud someday. At his age no one is a lock. We can hope, though

I think he'll be up by midseason this year. He could have been an "average" major league player THIS year already with his skills. He'll be ready quickly. Not worried about the injuries. All of these are of the "freak" variety this year and he's never really been hurt in his life before this year. If this continues next year, maybe time to be concerned.

If Stewart keeps progressing like he is 2016 is not outside the realm of possibility. Though I'd probably project 2017. The rotation even by the end of 2015 is looking pretty full:

Meyer
Berrios
Gibson
Hughes
Nolasco
Milone
Pelfrey (through 2015)
May

By the way, everyone will be starting to talk about our other stud Lewis Thorpe by then. He's going to be a top 20 MLB prospect very soon if he keeps doing what he's doing at this crazy young age.

If EVER

Six days after their 2012 first-round pick suffered a potentially season-ending injury, the Twins’ 2013 first pick has potential injury issues, too.

Kohl Stewart, the 19-year-old righthander who was taken fourth overall in the 2013 draft and was now pitching for Class A Cedar Rapids, left Tuesday’s start in the second inning after he was unable to throw his fastball harder than 88-90 miles per hour, according to farm director Brad Steil.

Stewart, 3-5 with a 2.42 ERA this season, just returned last week from a shoulder injury that kept him sidelined for nearly a month. He gave up only three hits and one run over four innings in his return last Wednesday, the same day that outfielder Byron Buxton, the team’s top prospect, suffered a season-ending concussion in a collision at Class AA New Britain.

But Tuesday, Stewart faced only eight batters, gave up three hits (including a home run) and a walk, and was removed “as a precaution,” Steil said. Stewart routinely reaches the mid-90s and above when he’s healthy.

Stewart was placed on the disabled list in mid-July after feeling shoulder tightness following five shutout innings against Lake County. He came to the Twin Cities for a magnetic resonance imaging exam, but no structural damage was found and Stewart, who received a $4.5 million signing bonus, was cleared to return.

Stewart was shut down early last year, partly to limit his work in his debut season, but also because of shoulder problems that the team considered minor.

Stewart was “very tight-lipped” about his shoulder after the game, saying only that he felt bad but tried to pitch through it, Cedar Rapids Gazette reporter Jeff Johnson said via Twitter.

You are talking about Kohl Stewart. He's a 19 year old kid. No chance at all he'll be called up this year or next.
