The Eagles may have the worst defense in the NFL

Vick threw for 400 yards, 2 TDs plus ran another one in with no turnovers and they still lost

Agreed. They are absolutely brutal on defense.

Still thinking 10-6. Strong possibility we sweep at home. Problem is AFC north is so weak our whole division will have a ballooned record.

ZERO CHANCE!

This team will be hard-pressed to win seven games. I would say 5-6 is far more realistic, with the possibility of 3-4.

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/19/2013 1:58:23 PM)

10 wins will require a huge improvement in Ponder

Not impossible

But the first 6 quarters were not promising

I am going to respectfully disagree. I have watched Ponder for six years. He is the very same guy he was as a sophomore at Florida State. Some guys just don't have "IT". I had more confidence in Tarvaris Jackson.

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/19/2013 9:25:59 PM)

I agree with Brad that it will be difficult for the Vikes to win 7 games, I'm putting the range as between 4-6 wins, unless something drastic happens.

The Browns appearing as an even more inferior opponent, is going to put A LOT of pressure on the Vikes. The Vikes, and especially the fans will get quite restless if the Vikes don't have the lead at halftime.

Drastic would be Ponder playing similar to the 2nd half of Bears for the rest of the season, Patterson getting heavily involved in the offense, Musgrave being less conservative, or Cassel taking over at QB.

Well the upside to that would be that we'd be in a position to draft prolly any QB but Bridgewater.

The downside being obviously a very ugly year. AD would be another year older, and ofcourse we'd have the pleasure of having a lot more of Bradley in here. [&o]

Guest -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/19/2013 10:10:36 PM)

I'm staring at 9-7, and hoping to sneak into the playoffs, and catch fire behind AD, a breakout rookie named Patterson (Who finally get's allowed to play) Ponder is at least servicable on bubble screens, and may even be replaced... But we roll on.

However we need the defense to turn it completely around starting right now!

That's where I was at before the season, and frankly they can still do it. 0-2 with a lot of things to dislike so far, but at the same time there's a way to write a good story here. Two division road games that came down to the 4th quarter. Every reason to believe they will win the next two games and head into the bye week 2-2. Then you are home to Carolina with 2 weeks to prepare. They should be sitting at 3-2. If not, they are probably not looking at the playoffs, but despite the 0-2 record there's still some hope. And yes, it kind of sucks that Patterson hasn't played much so far, but I would rather he be playing well at the end of the season than early on. Maybe they can avoid a rookie wall with him as well.

The encouraging thing about the defense is that they've been getting take aways, and not just the lucky kind. They're actively ball hawking which is a good sign and a big improvement from last year.

At this point, I would say there is a better than 50% chance we end up in last place in our division. The Packers and Bears are better football teams, and we already lost to the Lions. We have a quarterback that isn't worth a shit, and a coach that seems intent on going up in flames with him. Our linebackers are terrible. Our d-line is aging.

I could see things getting far worse before they get better. A win this weekend (will no doubt) make people feel better, but beating the Browns is nothing but a Band-Aid.

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/20/2013 8:35:23 AM)

Don't buy the rookie wall thing or the sophomore slump myth

That's about where I would put it as well. Just because I can see the scenario where they should be 3-2 doesn't mean it's a lock to turn out that way. They pretty much need it to go that way to have a shot at the playoffs. I hope that's how it plays out but I wouldn't be overly confident that is how it will play out.

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/20/2013 8:42:33 AM)

KILTYMISTIC PREDICTIONS

@ Det - L
@ Chi - L

*************************************************

vs Cle - W
'vs' Pitt - W
vs Car - W
at NYG - L
vs GB - W
at Dal - L
vs Was - W
at Sea - L
at GB - L
vs Chi - W
at Bal - W
vs Phi - W
at Cin - L
vs Det - W

I think that leaves us OUT of the playoffs because the losers of the SF-Sea and ATL-New Orleans battles probably end up with at least 10 and maybe 11 wins

We may need a couple upsets somewhere along the way

John Childress -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/20/2013 8:45:20 AM)

If we get swept by GB then we need to win at least 2 of these 3 road games

Dallas
Seattle
Cincinnati

That is a tall order

CORRECTION

3 of 4 road games

Giants
Dallas
Seattle
Cincinnati

Man, those are no picnic

Prescott -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/20/2013 9:49:59 AM)

I think Dallas is the easiest away game on the schedule, including division opponents.

Exactly. The Lions, Bears and Browns were the easy part of the schedule.

No chance in Seattle or Cincinnati.

Vikes 30

Browns 13

We already had our "easy" road game

In fact, this team could easily go 1-7 on the road this year since they already lost 2 of the more "winnable" road games

Maybe the Giants are still in a funk

Maybe Dallas but the problem with us against Dallas is their TE. He will ABUSE our LBs

marty -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/20/2013 8:56:08 PM)

That's why I said JC, lose to the Browns, and 0-16 is really a possibility.

Toby Stumbo -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/21/2013 7:38:49 AM)

Never going to happen (0-16) but I see a strong possibility of a really bad season on the horizon. [:(]

eagleflorida -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/21/2013 7:53:46 AM)

Anything less than a 17 point win Sunday portends a record this year in the area of 5 - 11.[:@]
Those 5 wins will include a couple where we will clearly be underdogs.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Predictions for Next Week (and maybe beyond) (9/21/2013 9:24:04 AM)

Last weeks loss against Chi was costly. Especially when it should have been a W. A team will start to fold when its coaches are gutless and do not go for the juglar in games like Chi.

We won't win many games if we dont scheme better on defense to hide our weak LB's. The model of how to torch us has been written in our first game. Our coaches need to change our scheme and get our slow plodder LB's off the field on passing downs. I don't know how you can hide your LB's but it will be a long season if they continue the status quo.

Prediction. I litterally have no idea. I think were a better team than what we've shown the first 2 weeks. However, its looking alot like a 5-6 win season.

It really should be a comfortable win. If they get up 17-0 for most of the game, and Cleveland gets a kick return in the closing minutes to make the final score 20-7, no big deal. In that one way, trekgeekscott is right. But this game should not be close on the field. Because you're right, if you are neck and neck with this Cleveland team it's going to be a long losing season.
