Cut your losses, let Treadwell go.

Replace him with a player that plays with confidence, and is better at catching passes.

100%. Is he in the way of our next Diggs or Thielen that's already on the roster but not 'earning' playing time? I'd sure like to find out.

Patriots will pick Treadwell up, put 50 pounds on him and play him at TE.

we should have flipped treadwell into a tight end after his first season....

Is converting him to TE going to make it so he can catch the ball?

There must be something about Brady's passes, we see few drops, especially in playoff games. And this is despite having a pass heavy team, and going through a ton of WRs.

Maybe the Patriots target guys that can catch the ball?

I think its says something that Patterson had the 2nd lowest number of receptions in his career, but had almost as many rushing attempts as the previous 5 seasons combined.

Exactly.

It is a preposterous idea,

Not to mention that Treadwell seems like the last type of dude willing to change positions.

The difference between us and the Pats is not that they would have converted him to TE ... its that they would have cut their losses much sooner than us.

Like Ponder, the mistake was not in drafting Treadwell ... but in holding on to him too long.

Near impossible to cut him when you are up to the cap and keep all our talent signed like Barr.....no room for dead cap hits.

I believe we'd still save ~650K by cutting him. The dead cap hit is smaller than what he'd make if still on the team.

Even if there is no savings, we still have to pay the money whether he's on the roster or not. Give the roster spot to the no-name that might be the next Adam Thielen.

Olabisi Johnson similar to Thielen. Not great speed but runs precise routes and good hands.

CBS Sports making it sound like we are trading Rudy.

I saw Jets were one of the teams mentioned. WLB Darron Lee was mentioned in an earlier article I read as a cut candidate. Only 2M base salary.

Same scenario with Jags. Telvin Smith.

One of these acquisitions would be a perfect fit for our defense. Lee could actually stay on field in passing downs because of cover ability.

Thielen has very good speed for a guy his size. 4.49 40. Maybe not quite great. Stefon Diggs about the same 4.46. Johnson 4.51 isn't exactly a turtle either.

I've made up with Dillon Mitchell and now consider him the SOD.

We're good 1-3 now and just need to fit in a 4 and 5. We're in a good place.

Seems like nothing but speculation. Here is the most recent article listing six potential trade partners.

Boy, CBS overstates Rudy's blocking ability.

I understand the many fans who did and/or still do love Rudolph. He did everything right and was a great community guy. As a player though - the team over-rated him and they over-rated him too early in his career and gave him the long-term contract. On the surface he appears to be 'just fine'. He gets good season-long stats and catches some TDs. Unfortunately that's where it stops though. He breaks no tackles and his average yards-per-catch is consistently low. He doesn't threaten the seam and doesn't pull defenses back off the line of scrimmage enough to impact the run game or to effectively use underneath crossing routes that would benefit a WR like Diggs so much.

Was Alex smith 'just fine' for the Chiefs? Yep. He was. Then look what happened when they went with someone more explosive. That potential was sitting there the entire time. A team dedicated to winning must do more than just upgrade their weakest roster spots. A team dedicated to winning must upgrade any roster spot where there is a potential for upgrade - even if the upgrade is from 'just fine' to 'excellent'.

From a blocking perspective alone, Smith is a huge upgrade over Rudy. Smith can line up and block effectively from traditional TE, H back and even full back sets.

Hopefully we only trade him if we get good value. A 3rd round pick next year or two fourths that the Patriots could offer. Or a player that is better than one of our current starters with a lower salary than Rudy. Would Conklin have any trade value at all? He might be the better trade to make.
