Opponents converting 3rd downs at a 37% clip. At their peek a couple years back, Vikes held opponents to 25% 3rd down conversions. I guess they'll go back to drafting defense in the early rounds.

Defense has really been regressing the last few games.

Zim has 2 weeks to fix it.

Bench Rhodes
Play Kearse more

If he's not going to bench Rhodes, at least don't have him shadow the other team's top receiver for a half. Sutton just made Rhodes his bitch.

Early in the game the announcers even said Denver's game plan going in was to attack Rhodes.

Geez. Can you imagine some offensive coordinator saying that 2-3 years ago? We would've thought they were crazy.

I don't know Joe...I think teams started throwing at Rhodes more than Waynes last year...

Agreed. I think teams saw something from the Saints playoff game to be honest. He's been beaten all over the yard since then. A few exceptions of course.

Is it negative posters ‘driving people away’ or is it that some posters have a compulsive need to control the narrative and can’t tolerate personalities that refuse to conform? Some of both. Plenty of both.

DF it's the level of negativity. Reading this board yesterday, which fortunately I waited until after the game to do, we have one of the worst teams in the NFL. Truth is we have one of the best teams in the NFL.

What used to set these threads apart was the balanced and non reactive nature of the MAJORITY of the posters. I believe that is still the case, unfortunately I think many have become mostly lurkers with just the occasional post, mostly because of the influx of the KFAN rube types. Which has tilted the balance for the schizophrenics even further. Of course they'll never admit to what they are, but people know.

Or perhaps those who prefer only the glittering generalities of 'what a great win' and 'zimmer's a coach and you aren't so he is always right' should just stick to following Wobby (or whoever replaces Wobby) and the Vikings twitter account where it's all rah rah rah hooray for the Vikings all the time.

Also, I don't think the history of Strib and talkvikes is as noble and balanced as you remember. I remember posts being deleted, accounts being suspended, accounts being banned, LEGENDARY flame wars, and debates that lasted years such as the Pro-Daunte vs Anti-Daunte debate.

This site hasn't gotten more negative - it's the same as it always was. What's changed is that there is more knowledge and information available now and it's tough for some to accept that they've been adhering to certain amount of conventional wisdom that just doesn't hold up as true anymore.

I've always thought the personalities that refuse to conform should just stick to the KFAN threads.

No shit, Captain Obvious.

You've turned into a real asshole at times.

You literally just said you think people that don't conform shouldn't post here. Who's the asshole?

Ive been here under three different names since 1997 Strib board (never more than one at a time though unlike some)

I have for long streches just been more of a lurker than a poster and that works for me too...

I find it comical some of you seem to feel this board is YOURS and you control it, a need to keep it all on the positive side and come up with all kinds of derogotory names for anyone who shows any kind of doubt or criticism of any aspect of the team beyond what you feel is acceptable...

Some of you must live very complicated lives out there in the real world?

If opponents are only converting at 37% we are doing well. This game it was the 4th down conversions that almost did us in.

Patriots defense is at 19.3%, which is tremendous. Also, we're at 40.6% in our last 5 games, so trending in the wrong direction.

Other thoughts:

The CHI LAR game was awful. Goff looks marginally better than Trubisky.

BAL looks tough.

NE defense is legit.

Hoping the SF defense spanks Erin and the Puke.

Too bad GB is coming off of a bye and SF just had a nail biter. Oh well....we have a bye before SEA

Speaking of past posters.....has anyone heard from Brad H? I don't know if he was in harms way in Cali or not but haven't seen or heard a peep from him in while.

I think in the recent past we have been pretty tame here, quite self monitoring and no one has really lost it as I remember on the Strib threads occasionally.

I like everyones personalitioes here, if everyone was the same as David said, we were all bland company line rah rah team enamored cant do wrong clones it would be so not what we have...

Can I be over the top, sensational in my attempt to make a skewed point that may or may not be totally flawed or flat out wrong in reality? ABSOLUTELY...

Live with it... I Think Kirk Cousins is transforming into something much more than I had faith in just months ago... Im not an idiot (always) I can change my mind when presented with real evidence something is going right and I need to change my opionions for the moment... and I have with Kirk... For the moment...

The Vikes are in a great place going into their bye week, on the inside of a last slot wild card berth... Lots of work to do and some tough games ahead that will factor heavily into our end results for this season...

Sunday night football... Time to be Niners fans for 60 minutes and revel in the glory of them taking one from the Pack while we get a week off...

Enjoy!

So you aren't leading the Krusade against Kirk any more?

You can look in on Brad on Facebook... he seems pretty content immersed in his JUCO college football endeavors... I myself wish I knew more of what Art was up to... Miss all those guys no matter how inflamitory some could be they added flavor to this board...

Love the heart-pounding win--

BUT this team's secondary has gone to s**t and fast. What happened to the CB Whisperer?

I'm sure the frustration of always getting the football pulled away Charlie brown style is a factor as well.

Had we even got to the SuperBowl in 98 I bet it would be a little different. I'm to the point where I want to see at least an appearance. Following since 87 I haven't even seen that.

Its a bye week... take in some sunshine and revel in our record and what may be to come...

I will get off Kirks nuts for the moment as I really try and wrap myself in his positives as of late and see if I can exorcise the demons from my psyche of Bad Kirk being all encompasing...

Speaking of NUTS.. did anyone catch that revelation at the end of Florios piece on Vikes comeback I posted? Seems after Kirk threw Diggs the TD to bring us to 20 on the sideline Diggs was all smiles and having fun... He walked over to Kirk and while Kirk was distracted he flicked Kirk in the nuts! Great to see our guys getting along like that, seems this board needs a flick in the nuts occasionally too...

My $.02:

1. Great win (thank you Capt. Obvious)! Once the Broncos kept adding to the lead I started to think about the CHI Harbaugh game where we were down 20-0 years ago and a pick 6 by, I think, Todd Scott got us going and we ultimately came back and won. I felt like if we drove down on our 1st drive in the 2nd half and put up 7 that we’d have a chance. Once they got up 23-7 I was a lot more skeptical.

2. I said it a few weeks ago and I’ll say it again. Mike Hughes should not be returning punts. His 2 muffs yesterday were exactly what I used to see in person when he played at UCF. He could catch kickoffs but not punts. We need someone more reliable back there. It is a disaster waiting to happen and almost cost us the game yesterday.

3. Same with Abdullah but he usually lets it bounce in the end zone for a touchback.

4. So many gaffs yesterday. How do you go offsides on a basic punt on 4th and 3?!? The whiff by Reiff that caused the Kurt fumble, the many, many missed opportunities for DB’s to knock down passes, the bite by Kearse (made up for it later) on a long pass that Rhodes gave up, the bite by Sendejo on the QB run on 4th and 1, the timeout by Zimmer with 10 seconds left that allowed DEN to get 3 shots at the end zone. All of these need to be cleaned up.

5. Despite the one long pass, Waynes played well. He was on the WR but didn’t make a play on the ball which is typical for him. He made a great 3rd down tackle on a pitch out and was solid all day. Their WR’s actually made some great catches.

6. Disappointed in the D but DEN really had us off balance with a lot of the plays they were running. My biggest problem is 3rd and long over this season on defense. They seem to give up a few each game. Yesterday was 3rd and 14 and they got 15 on a swing pass. Very bad. Hoping Zim cleans some of this up during the bye.

7. Wanted to see Holton Hill and Josh Doctson for a few plays. Don’t remember seeing either.

8. More blitzing up the middle please. They are doubling and chipping on Hunter and Griffen. Send someone up the middle!

9. Great adjustment by the offense in the 2nd half. I’m glad they didn’t get too stubborn and stick with the run. This was a game where we needed to conserve time and move the ball. The 2 minute offense was a great move and seemed to get Kirk going. Gotta hand it to Cousins. His throw to Diggs was perfect and he didn’t fade in the 2nd half down 20. He brought us back. I know the stats say he’s never had a come from behind win with the Vikes but I consider the tie with GB a comeback win. It’s not his fault that the kicker missed 3 FG’s. He still needs to work on his pocket presence (not sure if that is even possible or just something you either have or don’t have) because he held the ball too long a few times.

10. Nice to see Irv get his first TD. Hopefully the first of many!

11. Good game for Bisi. Made the catches when he got the chance. Will be nice to get Theilen back but Bisi has filled in admirably.

12. I’m not sure if it was punishment for the DUI or what, but Kearse seems to have so much physical talent and I”m not sure why he wasn’t playing more. He made some good physical plays at the end and can add something to the blitz package. I almost feel like we play it too safe on D sometimes.

13. Refs were bad. They seemed to be letting plays go longer after forward progress had been stopped. That was obvious on the TD but also some other runs by DEN. The call, while reversed on the FG, was horrendous. It was clear there was nobody lined up over the center so you have to wonder what a ref is looking at that makes him throw his flag?

14. Gotta say that Harrison Smith was one of the few guys flying around in the 1st half yesterday. He seemed so mad about them being behind that he was determined to make an impact play. I hope he’s okay for SEA. We’re gonna need him there.

Speaking of penalties...

Daniel Hunter has 48 1/2 sacks in 72 games... He has only been flagged SIX times for 42 yards in his career! His only 15 yard infraction came when he grabbed a facemask in his rookie season...

Lost in Cousins great 2nd half...

For all the gnashing of teeth about the Sendejo signing (me includeded...)

He probably saved that game from being a sure loss.

ANNNNNDDDD.... I don't think he even took anyone out today... so that's nice.

Yes he was heart all day.

He was pretty good, aside from 1st bomb to Fant (1st Drive?) when he and Gedeon combined to get smoked. Also the "goal-line stand" fail when we had the RB stopped and MM went for strip instead of securing the momentum stop.

Pick was monster though!
We don't get that, probably good night Irene.

That 4th down conversion late in the 3rd well on our side of the field is the play of the year for me.

Could have saved myself a ton of stress simply checking the final score at work instead of dying for hours watching the taped game. I was pretty down for most of it..thinking the usual; why, why you gotta do me like this?!

Only team in the last 100 to come back down 20+ at the half. I think they finally showed they have a different makeup.

We gotta stop getting gouged for big chunks. Stop that and everything is in front of us.

Damn good simple recap
Get that feeling too, a "regular" team probably can't make that comeback.
Maybe we have something here …
Seemed like they pulled together, instead of apart, when they most needed it. Great sign.
