Ezra Cleveland vs. Hercules Mata’afa (from http://vikings.com)

https://twitter.com/SeanBormanNFL/status/1295456679132368896?s=20

The QB got the pass off no trouble, but I think Herc got by him pretty easy.

I'm going to disagree with you. (respectfully) Cleveland forced him to go very wide and it looked effortless to me.

Certainly if Cleveland knew that play was a shallow drop and a quit hitter, that would be textbook rep.

Jefferson did get some work with the first team Sunday in three-wide receiver sets. Kubiak expects the Vikings to regularly use four receivers and plans to consider “all of them as starters.’’

Adam Thielen is Minnesota’s top receiver. Competition for the next three spots also will include Tajae Sharpe and Chad Beebe.

https://www.twincities.com/2020/08/16/rookie-wr-justin-jefferson-working-with-second-unit-but-vikings-very-encouraged/

I guess that's a bit ambiguous. At first read it seems he was talking about 4 WR sets, but he could just as easily be talking about rotating 4 WRs.

I think his last comment plans to consider “all of them as starters.’’ lends credence to the rotation context.

Jefferson clip:

https://twitter.com/NickOlsonNFL/status/1295147734513614848?s=09

He got wide open for certain.

it's a little weird how he drags his right foot when he fakes left...never noticed this before - with any receiver....

Not sure if that is a technical flaw, or if it actually adds deception/flexibility as to where his next move is?

Dantzler makes me think of Matt Blair. He was the second LB selected by the Vikings in 1974, but he was the one that was extra special. Dantzler was the second CB drafted by the Vikings this year. It's way too early, but he might be the one that is extra special.

Gladney will be very good, but IF Dantzler can stick with Thielen like that he just might be better.

Says he had 43 and 40 tackles his sophomore and junior years, he came out after his junior year?

I'll let you know after the Tampa Bay game when he gets the opportunity to tackle Gronk.

So....Waynes tore his pec muscle at Bengal camp and out most of the year......Rick dodged that one.

also looks like our 3rd round comp pick could be demoted to a 4th round pick...hopefully that sticks....

while re-watching the games from last season i've noticed that hughes doesn't like to touch the ground...he tackles high then throws the ballcarrier down...not good....

it may be dirty and physical and more of a strain, but wrap up the legs - it's more of a sure thing and ultimately we'll save yardage....

Nobody got injured yesterday and it seemed to me that they were trying hard to not hurt each other.

Day one, consisting of standing around 80% of the time, is in the books. Lots of anointed players, rookie starters, nobody looked bad. This year the bench is essentially another set of starters.

Its nice to go from politics venting to football hyperbolizing

(Dantzler for league mvp?)

As you imply, this year anything goes.

Which is good for us ... especially since our biggest offseason ‘additions’ were not only keeping the 2 most lackluster performing players on our OL and DL ... but ‘promoting’ them into Pierce’s and Klein’s spots.

He signed for 14 million AAV. Why would our 3rd round pick be demoted by an injury? That is messed up if true.

Instant vision of Chris Berman doing highlights - "and it's picked off by Hardy 'HAR HAR' Nickerson!"

First thought was isn't he in his 50s?

Had no idea he had a kid that's been in the league for 3 years.

In the highlights video here there are three tackles by Dantzler. He is a willing tackler.

Harrison Smith on the #Vikings young CB’s, via KFAN:

“I think they’re playmakers. We’ve only been out here a few days but I’ve seen them do some things that are ahead of their time I’d say. They’re hungry, they’re ready to go... We’ve got all types. I think it’ll work for us.”

i have read it several places, but i cannot explain the process....

more: apparently the amount waynes plays factors into it...a guy over at overthecap has a compensatory pick program and he ran it after inputting waynes' injury and we netted a 4th round pick...if waynes plays 60% or more of the defensive plays for cincinnati it would improve to a 3rd again....

Cameron Dantzler AGAIN. Just picked off Kirk Cousins on a ball intended for Bisi Johnson over the middle of the field.

Mike Boone has been consistently impressive during camp. He’s added some muscle but still has a ton of burst. Super decisive with his cuts. #Vikings have three good RBs.

Ifeadi Odenigbo just got the best of Riley Reiff a couple times in 1-on-1 drills. Used a spin move once and then an inside rush.

Anthony Zettel beat Ezra Cleveland badly on the first rep, but the rookie came back with an impressive stonewall right afterwards.

No sign of Danielle Hunter for the third straight day. Dru Samia and Nakia Griffin-Stewart also not practicing.
New LB Hardy Nickerson Jr. has been given No. [47] but isn’t out here yet. DJ Wonnum switches from 57 to 98.

Dalvin Cook just took a handoff on the first 11-on-11 rep of the day and burst through a hole on the left side. He looks ready to go.

Two plays later, Kirk Cousins hits Justin Jefferson about 30 yards downfield on a deep post off of play action. Pass protection was excellent.

Rookie QB Nate Stanley has been up and down. Threw a dime up the seam to Tyler Conklin but then overthrew Quartney Davis by a fair amount on a deep ball.
