So what safeties should the Vikings bring in as depth?

Realistic (not Earl Thomas) options include:
HaHa Clinton-Dix
Damarious Randall
Sean Davis
Jonathan Cyprien
Adrian Colbert
George Iloka

I hope they go after Sean Davis — elite athlete, played FS and SS for the Steelers.

(Krauser on Twitter)

Davis is certainly the most talented but oft injured. Shaquem Griffin is also on the market but is more of a LB but has the size of a S 227lbs and speed 4.3 forty. he's the guy that has a missing hand. I believe a birth defect.

Asked who the Vikings may cut today with the addition of a safety, Daniel House answered this way:

We’ll have to see which positions they target. However, I have my eyes on three people (all possible PS candidates): James Lynch, Dan Chisena and Harrison Hand.

It may be hard to get a quality vet to come sit behind two of the best safeties in football. This is maybe why you don't swap out Epps for Sendejo, unless they just didn't like him that much.

Epps made the Eagles 53 but they kept 6 S's. So there still might be a chance we get him back if exposed to the waiver wire. I doubt they keep that many S's.

Mike Tice is positive about the Vikings chances this season. One reason is he likes our coaching staff. He thinks some teams have inferior coaching.

He also expects sloppy play without having benefited from preseason games.

There was a restructure in the CBA more or less eliminating any hold outs by not giving players an accrued season if they didn't show on time for training camp.

However, if the player plays 6 games he's credited with an accrued season. So Cook could play the first 6 games and then go home.

If the season is cancelled due to the covid all players will be credited with an accrued season after 1 game.

I didn't mean players under contract holding out. I meant Free Agents or soon to be free agents not accepting the early good offers trying to get better ones. Pretty much every player that did that got screwed. Jacksonville turned down pick 19 on Draft night and ended up settling for a round later as compensation for Ngakoue. If that deal had been done I bet Ngakoue would have a 4 year deal at $19 million a year instead of his one year at 12. Zach Ertz turned down an extension offer last November that is much better than what the Eagles are offering now. All that kind of stuff.

A closer look at the #Vikings 53-man roster by the numbers:

Defense: 26
Offense: 24
Special Teams: 3

Gabe Henderson on Twitter

I count 26 on offense and 24 on defense:
9 OL, excludes LS
7 WR
3 TE
5 RB
2 QB

11 DL
6 CB
5 LB
2 S

Figure several adjustments are pending, hopefully by today.

Source said that with center Brett Jones going to the #Vikings practice squad it doesn't look as if center Jake Lacina will be signed to it at this point. Lacina was the backup option for the squad if Jones decided to go elsewhere.

Those wonder about K Chase McLaughlin, I'm told he's headed to the Vikings practice squad

Source says #Vikings to sign LB Blake Lynch to practice squad.

The #Vikings always keep another fullback on the practice squad. This year it's Jake Bargas, who played tight end at North Carolina.

As I noted yesterday, #Vikings want two quarterbacks on the practice squad during this coronavirus pandemic season. Both Jake Browning and Nate Stanley will be on it.

Source says that guard Aviante Collins will sign with Vikings practice squad

#Vikings claim former Eden Prairie star linebacker Ryan Connelly off waivers from Giants.

Apperently Connelly will be part of the 53 man roster, not the practice squad.

#Vikings waive Hardy Nickerson to make room for Ryan Connelly.

Rookie OT Blake Brandel will join #Vikings practice squad after clearing waivers.

CB/S Nate Meadors will join #Vikings practice squad after clearing waivers.

TE Brandon Dillon will join #Vikings practice squad after clearing waivers. Dillon was 2019 Mr. Mankato and has continued to impress.

"A 2019 fifth-round draft pick, Connelly played four games – making three starts – for the Giants last season before suffering a torn ACL. Over those first four outings, he recorded 20 tackles (league stats), a sack and two passes defensed. He also nabbed interceptions off Jameis Winston and Case Keenum in Weeks 3 and 4, respectively."

The #Buccaneers are signing QB Josh Rosen to their practice squad, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. Rosen talked to teams that had openings on their active roster but with guaranteed $$ in his pocket already, went with the best fit in Tampa.
