Historic Success Chart

The numbers show us the following outline for finding consistent starters:

1st Round - OL (83%) LB (70%) TE (67%) DB (64%) QB (63%) WR (58%) RB (58%) DL (58%)

2nd Round - OL (70%) LB (55%) TE (50%) WR (49%) DB (46%) QB (27%) DL (26%) RB (25%)

3rd Round - OL (40%) TE (39%) LB (34%) DL (27%) WR (25%) DB (24%) QB (17%) RB (16%)

4th Round - DL (37%) TE (33%) OL (29%) LB (16%) WR(12%) DB (11%) RB (11%) QB (8%)

5th Round - TE (32%) DB (17%) WR (16%) OL (16%) DL (13%) RB (9%) LB (4%) QB (0%)

6th Round - TE (26%) OL (16%) DL (13%) WR (9%) DB (8%) RB (6%) LB (5%) QB (0%)

7th Round - DB (11%) OL (9%) QB (6%) WR (5%) DL (3%) LB (2%) RB (0%) TE (0%)

So, as I see it, the only position above the Mendoza Line after the fourth round is a tight end.

I asked a fair football question in response to Wobby's first article. It was deleted. I asked him respectfully (I thought, but maybe he didn't think so) in response to him praising and having confidence for Dennison (the offensive line coach) what the basis of his thinking was for that. I honestly wanted to have a reason to be hopeful that the guy knows what he's doing because a lot of people are questioning that.

He didn't block me- he just deleted my question. You know, I always gave him a pass for always being rather Pollyanna-ish when it came to commenting on the Viking players because he was an employee of the Vikings. I wasn't trying to get him to say something negative here either, but my sense is that he's trying to suck up to the Vikings. His article was gushing in praise of the coaching staff throughout.

Fansided Article saying that cutting Conelly was a HUGE MISTAKE by the Giants and the vikings gain.

https://gmenhq.com/2020/09/05/ny-giants-connelly-mistake/

Spoiler alert-

If you go back and look at this site a few years ago it said the almost identical thing about how big of a mistake the Giants made by releasing BRETT JONES.

Hope they’re right about Conelly.

Not identical ... a vet with starting C experience signed to be depth vs essentially a rookie that flashed very well before an injury who may or may not be more than depth. Plus we traded for Jones.

Although Connolly and Jones have nothing to do with eachother’s situation, fans react to releasing /adding players pretty similarly from team to team.

My apologies, a 7th round pick traded at the end of training camp (Pretty close to being waived)

Yes and the General reaction is pretty close as it relates to the fansided outlet to both players.

Hope they’re right on Connelly, but there is usually a reason they waived a young guy who showed promise (probably injury related)

And yet the Giants kept former Viking LBer Devante Downs instead.

Brett Jones showed absolutely nothing with us.

Apperently Connelly will be part of the 53 man roster, not the practice squad.

#Vikings waive Hardy Nickerson to make room for Ryan Connelly.

Chris Tomasson

You pick them up on waivers, they go directly to your 53 man roster. No option available there.

Do you think Dye could do well in the "heavy nickel" role that Kearse used to fill? The advantage for Dye is that a lot of teams do the quick tempo offense that doesn't allow for the defense to substitute players in and out, but he is already in frequently for running downs. We could have three three down linebackers. I suppose it depends on the match ups.

Dye is a lengthy, rangy and intelligent linebacker with three-down potential at the next level.

You're right, but I did read that Jones got offers from a number of teams to come to their practice squad, but he chose to stay with the Vikings. I bet most players would prefer to stay with the team that has been working with them for their system and one reason would be that they could be more ready to play if needed.

i don't think that this number includes the practice squad....

at this moment the vikings are listed at $2.265m under the cap...last in the nfl....

.

had them as $6 million under this morning. I wonder what the difference is?

overthecap has them at about $6m, while spotrac is at $2.2m - i wonder if spotrac includes bonuses that otc doesn't?...also, i didn't see any numbers adding the ps to the totals....

otc and spotrac always seem to be different....

Thanks.

Chris Tomasson@christomasson
With regular-season rules now having kicked in, Jason Fitzgerald of http://overthecap.com has the #Vikings with just $808,087 of salary-cap room.

Clowney signs for 1 yr 12M

Better run defender - Yannick the better pass rusher.

Definitely worth a debate; Yannick vs Clowney + 2nd round pick.

Assuming he would want to come here.

If reports were accurate, he turned down some 17-18M per year deals.

Kind of Sprewell like.

How's he going to feed his family on that?

I wonder if we Spielman had not invested one of his heroin fix-like 7th rounders, if Jones would still be on the team.

I would rather splurge and gamble with 7th rounders on a so-so borderline roster vets with starting experience than cultivating 7th rounders like tribbles to poach soon to be UDFAs.

I guess both long shots have (a little) value.

If Ezra really showed progress at LG, then it makes sense to cut Collins. If not and our only options at LG are Dozier or a rookie that has struggled

Did we ever discontinue the LG experiment with Ezra? Maybe after the early abysmal showing, they felt like he was coming on a bit?

i agree with you...by the time they can coach up a 7th round pick he's a free agent and somebody else is willing to overpay for him....

trade back with our 1st rounder - trade up into the 3rd with later picks, and go home....

I think the thought we ever kept Jones because of what was already invested in him would make more sense if there were not a guy named Kaare Vedvik.

I'm told that Eddie Yarbrough is indeed safe.

At 251 lbs we are accumulating a lot of tweeners at DE

Not sure 251 lbs even makes it up in to the 'tweener' range anymore.

Or you could click on the link and see that those numbers are from 2005 until 2014.

Brady was not drafted in those years and those numbers are not too current. It was posted in 2015 meaning the 2013 and 2014 guys also would not have had full time to be a "consistent starter" yet, so the whole list seems dated and not fully accurate.

I can see this chart is messed up at a moments glance. Tom Brady was a 6th round pick yet the chart says 0% QB starters drafted in 6th round.

Bill posted it and didn't mention it was for a particularly limited time frame. Why did I need to click the link. I had the numbers right here.
