Dalvin Cook not holding out yet.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Vikings RB Dalvin Cook plans to participate in the team's virtual voluntary offseason program.
Cook is entering the last year of his rookie deal. The backfield remains unchanged after the draft: Cook will get all the work he can handle, Alexander Mattison will see sporadic backup usage and is nothing more than a high-end handcuff, and Mike Boone will flash in the preseason but ultimately provide little value without multiple injuries occurring. It seems likely the Vikings and Cook manage to get some sort of deal done before the season starts.

WTH does that suppose to mean?

It’s a Fantasy Football term meaning if you take one guy high in your draft,
you almost have to take his back up later on as your season will depend on that position.

Elflein's dead cap hit is only $234K. I'd like to think he doesn't have a roster spot locked up at this point. Losing Klein and adding Cleveland would keep the OL numbers the same. If another rookie flashes (e.g., Hinton, Brandel, Higby), then they might not want to risk placing him on the practice squad.

Ok. It came off to me like he was dissing Mattison as a scrub

Yeah,
I kind of read it that way at first as well but can’t imagine there’d be any validity to that.

Agreed. And wide open competition at G likely means the backups as well.

If it's Elf vs. a newbie, they may have to guess about the newbie's potential more than normal due to the lack of normal activities. At least they know what they have with Elf.

Given the right set of circumstances, Elf tops out as a middling journeyman.

Right now Elf tops out as the guy who gets knocked straight back into the QB's lap on 60% of the passing plays.

It's actually complimentary to Mattison. Handcuff=backup, High end meaning he is one of the very best back up RBs in the league.

Perhaps Elf is hitting the weight room often this off season. Sounds like his job is no longer secure. Something we all seen earlier that the Viking brass.

If it came to cutting one of the veteran guards, there is an approximately $1.5 million greater cap savings in cutting Elflein rather than Jones or Dozier.

Hello everyone! After lurking on the Star Tribunes board and then following yall here I finally joined! Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy! Skol Vikings!!

OMG. That's a long time. God bless you. I hope it means that now that you are here the Vikings go over the threshold to a Super Bowl championship.

lol, yeah. I've lurked on a number of boards over the years including the shit-show at KFAN. I joined the one on Viking Update but that's gone too. Figured it was finally time to join this one.

Hopefully the Vikings finally go all the way. Been a fan since the early 90's and woke up at 2:30 AM to watch the 98 NFCCG because I was stationed in Okinawa. Was born in 78 so I didn't see any of the SB games, just a ton of NFCCG losses. Even had to endure listening to the neighborhood shoot of fireworks after the Eagles finally won theirs. Hoping this year is our turn!

Skol Vikes!

Semper Fi buddy! Ooraah!

My brother had some pretty crazy stories about Okinawa - getting up to watch the Vikings at 2:30 am wasn't one of them.

BigO, I'm retiring, or am retired, depending on how you look at it. Maybe see you around a little more often at ... what was the name of that pub again?

- I think I'll wander over to the Draft thread now and see how crazy that got.

My wife is Japanese (from closer to the Kobe area) but I've never been to Okinawa. I do have a friend who spent time there and he reminisces with me that it was the most wonderful place in his life. He was jealous of me having a Japanese wife, so I helped set him up with an ex-stewardess with JAL and they married. He was extremely devoted to her. The Japanese women are very beautiful and soft on the outside, but strong on the inside, if that makes sense to you. I feel very lucky myself.

Hey Gents, spent some time in Okinawa in the AF. Retired years ago. My son did a semester in Tokyo last year and did a pilgrimage to Okinawa to study with the master of his Karate style. One of his highlights of that spring. I learned early never to sneak up on him lest I get my ass kicked accidentally.

Well, kind of staying as busy as I can - riding bike a lot, little bit of golf, just put the motor on the boat this afternoon ....

Yes. Her name is Sachiko, which means "happy child" I do have a Korean son in law who might be the smartest person I ever met. He got a PhD two years early at an Ivy League college. You probably read how I love to watch Korean dramas, so that would be understandable. Today though, I watched a Taiwanese movie called Secret. I enjoyed it a lot. Occasionally I will watch a Japanese drama. I can suggest a good Japanese drama if you like. It's a great hobby to watch all of the Asian dramas, especially in the absence of live sporting events. I almost never watch American movies, but I actually watched one yesterday that I really liked a lot. It was a baseball movie called, "Undrafted". I was drawn to the movie because of the NFL draft, but it's based on a true story of an athlete who was disappointed at not getting drafted by MLB. I might be rambling here!

Sure! Let's hear it.

- My favorite series on Netflix is Anne with an E. That's how different I am. I'm presently reading the series - presently on #5

Perhaps Elf is hitting the weight room often this off season. Sounds like his job is no longer secure. Something we all seen earlier that the Viking brass.

That supposedly happened last off season. Elf talked about how great it was to not have to rehab an injury and he was able to focus on the weight room and getting stronger. It didn't seem to help as a couple of times they damn near sacked Cousins by throwing Elfline at him.

Agreed Elf was really bad last year. What was equally disturbing was the play of Bradbury.

I hope this Rick speak of having an open competition is real. usually whom ever gets paid the most starts with this current regime.

I'm willing to give Bradbury some benefit of the doubt, since he was a rookie (even though Elf was better at C as a rookie). It's arguably the most demanding position on the line, so to get thrown in there as a rookie is quite a challenge. Elf has unfortunately gotten progressively worse each season. Bradbury was billed as the best C prospect in years. We'll see if the system becoming more second nature and an off season of strengthening helps him.

I sure hope so and I wouldn't be surprised if Bradbury steps up a lot this year.
