Mikko Koivu's contract has not been extended, so he's done as a Wild player.

I know that will make many here happy, but I always have a soft spot for players who have been with my team for their entire career and appear to be really decent people. Best wishes Mikko.

I wish the man all the best, but it was time to move on. He just isn't an effective hockey player anymore. It really isn't a surprise given Mikko's decline and Guerin's determination to make this team faster.

Wild trade Staal to Buffalo for Marcus Johansson.

I liked having Staal. He was a stone cold scorer. I know he's getting old.
What is it about us and Buffalo. It seems like we make as many trades with Buffalo as the rest of the league combined.

Wow, the draft is Tuesday. Most mocks still have the Wild taking Lundell. Personally, I think it's a lazy consensus. The group think seems to be:

1. The Wild needs a center
2. Naturally, the Wild would want to replace Mikko with somebody just like him.

Personally, I hate that pick with every fiber of my being. Lundell skates like a young Mikko and that isn't good in today's game. The weakest part of his game is offense, which is not good for a top ten pick.

I would be surprised if this was the pick. Guerin has been pretty clear of what wants at center and Lundell doesn't seem to fit the mold. Guerin wants the team to get faster. That's why he traded Staal and said no to bringing back Mikko.

It hasn't happened yet. They traded Donato to the Sharks for a 2021 3rd round pick.

Now it's happened. Dubnyk also to the Sharks for a 2022 5th round pick.

The more I look, there is only one place I have actually seen that NTG has been traded and I don't know how reliable it is. If this is really the deal, it's beyond awesome because between Donato and Dubnyk, about $6.2 million goes out the door with future draft picks coming back.

Russo has been saying it is happening too for a few days.

Wild and Sharks are expected to announce a Ryan Donato trade within the hour; San Jose getting Donato for a third-round pick in '21.
Both teams also still working on a separate Devan Dubnyk deal which if completed would be announced later today.

My God I can't believe the people on the strib forum crying over the NTG trade. One idiot even compared it to Fletcher trading Leddy.

How? If you are a true hockey fan you know Fluery vs Dubes....Save % proves it and the geek stats prove it more...the problem was our goaltending not our blue line.

I had the audacity to say that Dubes was never anything close to an elite goalie and pointed to his penchant for giving up truly awful goals and got the reply ... Keepin it classy eh

All I can say is ... BAAAAAAAAA

Dubes would get hot during the season for two months but he was the worst playoff goalie we could have had these last five years.

Goalies cost GMs and Coaches jobs....just ask Fletch and Bruce.

Some of these folks also wanted Gardy to stay because they won division titles.

Many wanted a 1 year extension for Dubes (I think it was Scott and Sweens but not sure) but Fletch signed him for 5 years and I think Bruce wanted him too....that is what they were fired for. GM and coaches were blind too on Dubes.

Ask the rest, has there been any bigger get-rid-of-Dubnyk poster than me?
FROM DAY ONE

All my texts yesterday were "how can we just give Dubnyk away"
My response has always been from DAY ONE to give him away to anyone, and still pay what we got suckered into
Getting nothing back was inevitable and should have been done years ago
Can I make it clearer?

There was never a time when I wanted Dubnyk extended for one day, let alone one year. I was of the opinion that we could let him walk, grab a backup off the scrap heap for cheap and get just reliable a goalie.

I dubbed him NTG because of your response the day we got him ... He's Not The Guy ...
