Williams is literally one of the worst rim protectors in the entire league. He's young though, but he will really have to improve just to become average.

Can him and Jaxson Hayes together put up 15/12/2 blocks? That would be good output from center position for this Laker team.

Its not really about blocks. Its that Williams allows close to 70% FGs around the rim when he's in the game.

He'll block 1 or 2 shots a game, but he allows a ton of points in the paint.

I was trying to be positive...

He kind of reminds me of Greg Monroe - a really talented guy that the NBA passed by.

It really doesn't make sense why he is so bad at rim protection. He has the physical tools.

He's blocking shots like crazy on youtube highlights.

Good to see you, JT2

Hey Mark, likewise.

In the postseason, I really don't think Hayes will get a lot of run, especially if Vanderbilt can stay healthy and work his way into 22 minutes or so down the regular season stretch.

The more I think about it, Williams is just not the answer. In fact, his backup in Charlotte (Moussa Diabate) is pretty much the same player, without the physical attributes. His inability to protect the rim will be a problem. Bad fit I think. However, I don't underestimate Luka's ability to drag a team with him but they certainly have their work cut out for them.

The rest of the West just needs to hope for some OKC injuries because I don't think anybody has a chance if they remain healthy. Perhaps Denver. Maybe they acquire Simmons to add depth?

Maybe Williams doesn't have the instincts to do it or maybe playing on a team with non defender Lamelo Ball as the leader rubs off on a guy.

Time will tell if LBJ and Luka can get this guy to play good defense around the rim. Since he has the physical traits to do it.

Shams Charania
Lakers say the Mark Williams/Dalton Knecht trade has been rescinded.

Mark Williams' physical with the Lakers showed multiple issues and the team failed him on the exam, sources tell ESPN. The physical was not failed due to his back, however.

Bobby Marks
The trade was conditional on Mark Williams and Dalton Knecht reporting and passing a physical.

Because the deadline has passed, the trade was not allowed to be amended.

Williams goes back to Charlotte

Knecht/Cam Reddish to LAL

The draft conditions: 2030 swap and 2031 unprotected first are voided.

Not surprised his medicals weren't good. It wasn't until they traded Richards before they significantly ramped up his minutes. Looks to me that they intentionally showcased him to get some bites. Lakers got lucky.

That's going to be a little awkward for those players coming back in to the locker room.

Spurs shut down Victor Wembanyama over blood clot in shoulder
Tim MacMahon

AUSTIN, Texas -- San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, the team announced Thursday.

The Spurs said in a statement that the condition was discovered after Wembanyama returned to San Antonio after the All-Star Game.

A thrombosis is a form of a blood clot. The Spurs believe it is an isolated issue for Wembanyama.

Wembanyama, the reigning Rookie of the Year and a first-time All-Star this season, was averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and a league-leading 3.8 blocks in 46 games for the 23-29 Spurs.

He will not be eligible for All-NBA, Defensive Player of the Year and other major awards because Wembanyama did not meet the 65-game minimum. Wembanyama had been a -2000 favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year at ESPN BET prior to the Spurs announcement.

The team said in its statement that updates on Wembanyama's condition would be provided as appropriate.

Wow.

Shams Charania: Breaking: Dallas Mavericks All-Star Kyrie Irving has suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee, sources tell ESPN. Devastating. Irving appeared in 50 of Mavs’ 62 games so far, and is currently the only player in the NBA averaging at least 20 points, 40% 3-point shooting and 90% from free throw line — the fifth season in his career with those statistics, second most all-time to Stephen Curry. – via x.com

As if Nico Harrison wasn't already despised in Dallas.

That's interesting. Obviously there are years remaining on the contracts (as an aside it looks like both will get SuperMax (sp?) contracts in a couple of years). Read that Ant is only 23.

Team control means nothing if a player wants out, but Edwards seems to be ok with his situation. The technical fouls are a concern. Is it that he is a competitor, or are the certain frustrations?

All in all, seems fitting that the Wolves passed.

Doncic lost that chance since he was traded.

Luka was eligible for 5/345 with Dallas, but only 5/229 with LA. That's a massive difference - a 23M/year difference.

If things don't change, it's just a matter of time before there's a swap of two impending Super-Max players - so the teams can keep the price down. Something like Banchero for Holmgren to save both teams nearly 120M.

The Super-Max was supposed to make it more likely for teams to keep their superstars. But its doing the exact opposite.

Can he get more in FA? It is 5/345 to 4/229. (1 less year). Looks like he can opt out after 2025-26 season.

Jokic with 31/21/22

He’s having a “video game” season.

SGA is going to win MVP, but shouldn’t.

I really don't understand why SGA is considered this lock to win the MVP. Joker is averaging a triple double and everone is in a hurry to crown SGA's ass.

Because the NBA hates repeat winners.

OKC is still a playoff team without Shai.

Denver is a lottery team without Jokic.

He’s, by far, the best player in the game.

Dude is averaging 29/13/11 with 2 steals. And shooting 58/44/82.

Looks like LeBron will be out weeks rather than months will his groin strain. And Luka has back issues - potentially back spasms but perhaps something worse. Will be interesting to see how they weather the storm until they're at full strength again.
