I would like a trade up for Oweh or Moehrig.

Then get another G.

And a developmental QB.

I thought Oweh was drafted already. If we keep the 4 3rd rounders one of them has to be a QBotF.

I would hope cleveland is moved to LG and takes a big step forward in pass blocking.

I think RS lucked out, on paper anyway, But he dug the hole in the first place trading the 2nd rounder.

Very true. If RS hadn’t traded that pick, perhaps he would have traded one of our thirds this year to move UP 2 spots and draft Slater instead of drafting down and getting a lesser player because he’s so desperate for more picks.

Hey grumps/gramps, why don't you wait and see what he does with those picks.

And I'd rather we have Darrisaw and two thirds vs Slater and a lost third, mainly because I can't discern that great a difference. I like the net of three 3rds.

LOL! Every year we’re in the same position when it comes to RS and his draft “strategy” and every year some posters urge that we “wait and see” what RS has up his sleeve before passing judgement. And every year we end up with an oline that stinks... I hope that this is the year Spielman fixes the line once and for all, which is how I felt last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, but at this point I have zero confidence in his abilities as a GM when it comes to drafting for the oline. The smart move was to move up and get the guy that the experts predict will be a pro bowl fixture for the next 10 years. Regardless, at least he picked an offensive linemen. The question is, does he think his work is done, or will he actually devote more than a couple of later round picks to continue building the oline?

And every year you bitch during the draft, except this year you've outdone yourself as far as timeliness.

It's notable though you bitched about the OL well before kgbum.

Hey every poster on this board bitched about the oline well before kg.

My take on tonight's draft: Detroit and Chicago got way better, GB got a fast CB not sure how good he will be. Loved hearing that Rogers does not want to play for GB anymore hope it comes true! I wanted Slater but am happy with Darrisaw. Tomorrow trade up to second round and get the best safety in the draft, third round get best available G.

We could trade our 2 top 3rd rp's into #44 and our 2 bottom 3rd rp's into #60.

If we can find a starting G on day 2 here we'll have drafted our entire OL within the last 4 years. People will have to find something new to slam Spielman on.

How about if Mac Jones turns out to be a stud? Hindsight, but if Cousins hadn't been renewed, it would have been a good year to draft a QB.

Spielman actually has done a good job of drafting Oline the last few years. I like O'Neil, Bradbury, and Cleveland at where we were drafting. It wasn't like we have had a top 10 pick to throw at a sure fire guy which is why Detroit always looks good.

I wouldn't mind if he kept all of the third and fourth round picks. There are always good players that drop into the mid fourth.

Here's some perspective on the level of talent (from Twitter @Krauserrific)

Vikings currently have 4 picks on day 2:
66, 78, 86, 90

Here are the Vikings last 10 day 2 picks, and the pick where they were taken:

41. Cook
45. Kendricks
50. Smith Jr
54. Alexander
58. Cleveland
62. O’Neill
70. Elflein
88. Hunter
89. Dantzler
102. Mattison

I wouldn't be mad if Spielman stood pat.

He won't and I think I'd prefer to see him actively target someone with a move into 2nd.

Overall, I thought the move that Minnesota made to get two thirds and Darrisaw was a solid play. They needed an OT and they got a decent one. They needed added depth in the draft as a result of not much action in free agency, and got two third-round picks. I would have rather seen a second round pick, but they only had so much leverage and the #66 is fairly close to a late second. Now they need to get at least one solid interior guy in the third, and they've got a handful of picks to make it happen.

CBS Day 2 best available:
No. 16: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB/S, Notre Dame
Owusu-Koramoah is more of a safety playing linebacker, but he will find a comfortable landing spot in the second round.

No. 17: Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU
Moehrig is a balanced safety capable of playing single high or coming downhill to make plays in the box.

No. 18: Azeez Ojulari, EDGE, Georgia
Ojulari is still coming into his own but his speed around the edge is a good starting point in his development.

No. 20: Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue
Moore is very undersized and has an injury history, but he is explosive with the ball in his hands.

No. 23: Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State
Jenkins is a physical lineman that should be taken early on Day 2.

No. 24: Asante Samuel Jr., CB, Florida State
It was surprising to see Samuel available at the conclusion of the first round but it should not be long before he hears his name called following a run on the cornerback position late in Round 1.

No. 26: Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama
Barmore flashed in the College Football Playoff, but he was not consistent during his final season in Tuscaloosa.

No. 28: Levi Onwuzurike, DT, Washington
Onwuzurike is a strong interior defender who can play the run and push the pocket.

No. 29: Joseph Ossai, EDGE, Texas
Ossai is a bit stiff but he has a knack for finding the football around the edge. He was more of a linebacker in 2019 and found a home at edge rusher in 2020.

No. 33: Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss
Moore is a speedster that is dynamic with the football in his hands. He is primarily a slot receiver.

No. 36: Richie Grant, S, UCF
Grant is a rangy, ball-hawking safety that drew a lot of buzz late in the process.

No. 38: Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU
Marshall was a part of a potent LSU offense last year that included Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Justin Jefferson, Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase. He is a big wide receiver.

No. 39: Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia
Campbell is a fantastic man cover cornerback who does a great job of staying in-phase but he does not have the ball production to show for it.

No. 40: Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina
Williams, a former linebacker, is easily the best running back remaining on the board.

No. 42: Wyatt Davis, OG, Ohio State
Davis battled injuries in 2020 after a fantastic 2019 season.

No. 44: Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, Syracuse
Melifonwu has a lot of length and could be a target for a cornerback-needy team after a run at the position at the end of the first roudn.

No. 45: Daviyon Nixon, DT, Iowa
Nixon has been a bit inconsistent but he flashes the ability to shoot gaps and push the pocket.

No. 46: Carlos Basham Jr., EDGE, Wake Forest
Basham is an inconsistent edge rusher that shows flashes of promise.

No. 47: Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky
Joseph could end up being the best cornerback in this draft class but he lacks experience.

No. 48: Aaron Robinson, CB, UCF
Robinson is a long, fluid prospect that has the versatility to play cornerback or nickelback.

No. 49: Jalen Mayfield, OT/OG, Michigan
Mayfield is a bit of a polarizing prospect that has the versatility to play either guard or tackle on the next level.

No. 51: Jackson Carman, OT/OG, Clemson
Carman has the versatility to play guard or tackle.

No. 52: D'Wayne Eskridge, WR, Western Michigan
Speed, speed, speed. Eskridge was cross-trained as a cornerback but possesses explosive traits after the catch.

No. 53: Creed Humphrey, C, Oklahoma
Humphrey plays with great leverage and a strong base. He is a valuable interior offensive line prospect to be had on Day 2.

No. 54: Jevon Holland, S, Oregon
Holland is a great communicator with the ability to play slot cornerback or safety.

No. 55: Dillon Radunz, OT/G, North Dakota State
Radunz is a really athletic lineman that has been training with 49ers great Joe Staley. He has the versatility to play guard or tackle in the NFL.

The next 25
No. 56: Andre Cisco, S, Syracuse
No. 58: Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas
No. 60: Elijah Molden, CB, Washington
No. 61: Davis Mills, QB, Stanford
No. 62: Hamsah Nasirildeen, S, Florida State
No. 64: Osa Odighizuwa, DT, UCLA
No. 65: Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama
No. 66: Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn State
No. 67: Ronnie Perkins, EDGE, Oklahoma
No. 68: Nick Bolton, LB, Missouri
No. 69: Tylan Wallace, WR, Oklahoma State
No. 70: Alim McNeill, DT, N.C. State
No. 71: Trey Smith, OG, Tennessee
No. 72: Milton Williams, DT, Louisiana Tech
No. 73: Jamar Johnson, S, Indiana
No. 74: Ar'Darius Washington, S, TCU
No. 75: Michael Carter, RB, North Carolina
No. 76: Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami
No. 77: Jabril Cox, LB, LSU
No. 78: Kary Vincent Jr., CB, LSU
No. 79: Cornell Powell, WR, Clemson
No. 80: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame
No. 81: Camryn Bynum, CB, California
No. 82: Baron Browning, LB, Ohio State

Todd with 4 3rds and 4 4ths what is your thoughts on a Speedy WR also....that is my sneaky pick as this draft seems to have a ton of depth. What I see happening is Rick keeping his highest 3rd to trade down to recoup the 3rd and 4th he needs to move up into the 2nd.

We know he can't help himself

I was declaring Bateman a first round pick and somebody else here was saying 3rd. I'm on a minor roll here.

Virtually every board had him lower first round and rightfully so. Anyone saying 3rd round is just anti-Gopher grumpiness.

Nice job Phil. A handful of those guys from the second will be available when we pick. Much of the third will be available. If a guy like Nixon drops, I say you take him. Mayfield, Carman or Radunz would be great gifts.

If you watched the Gophers play you knew 2 years ago he was a 1st round pick. The reason the gophers could run the ball so effectively is that teams had to double and or zone it up to account for Bateman.

Absolutely. He was in the second tier of WR slated for the lower first round. Idiot has to feel validated.

Agree on all. but he got extremely lucky Darrisaw was there.

What worries me is that Spielman will now think he's done enough for the oline and won't address G until the 6th rd. I'm also afraid he's going to trade down vs up and accumulate a bunch of 7th rd picks. Not sure Spielman can help himself regarding this accumulation of late rders.

I have my reservations on Bateman. Like you, I thought he was a star two years ago. What I saw last season was a guy that couldn't make it happen without Tyler Johnson on the other side. He strikes me as a bit of a diva. He'll have his moments, but never be a 90-100-catch guy.

I think you look at the way dynasty teams were built (Cowboys, NE, etc.) is that they accumulated a ton of 3rd and 4th round picks which allowed them to move around and take chances on those guys that always drop for whatever reason.

That is why I don't get so pissed at Spielman when he grabs extra 3rds...even fourth rounders. I remember Dallas and NE trading current 4th for next years third....wouldn't surprise me one bit. Anything below that pisses me off...6th/7th....blah.

What I would do is maybe gamble on a speedy WR or another OT/OG with all these picks....be in the driver seat and maybe trade a current lineman (even Cleveland) if the right Olineman drops to us or edge guy drops trade (Willekes).

Also as Brad mentioned DT would be sneaky too as we seemed to already be stocked at DE...
