Blake Brandel “may have to be the swing tackle” per Zimmer. He intimated that the Vikings still want to get Oli Udoh some reps at left tackle, where Brandel has replaced Rashod Hill in moments at practice and played the entire game vs. DEN, but Brandel looks to have the inside track towards earning a spot as a backup tackle on the 53 given his position flexibility between left/right tackle, even some center earlier in camp.

Plus hopefully Udoh will give us an upgrade at RG.

Backup Guard, correct? Davis and Cleveland should be the Starting Guards at least by week 2-3.

I don't know, I didn't see the game, reports here had Davis at LG. And Cleveland has been practicing at LG all preseason I believe.

Davis played RG against Denver. It was Samia-Cole-Davis when Davis replaced Dozier.

Paul Allen said Cole is bigger than Bradbury and suggested that Cole could give Bradbury serious competition. I thought Cole was supposed to be another undersized athletic interior guy, but maybe he's added a few pounds.

So Udoh didn't play at all against Denver. That is a little curious considering he is currently #1 on their depth chart at RG, with 0 live NFL snaps at that position, you would think they would at least want him to get his feet wet.

For sure. Cleveland on the left side as well. As least a few plays of live action. I guess its not necessary when you are anointed on paper:

When Oli Udoh was told last week he wouldn’t play in #Vikings preseason opener against Denver, it became clear he'd earned starting right guard job. "It was awesome. I talked to my family about it. It was a pretty cool experience to just be able to be in that role for the team.”

udoh not playing at all indicated to me that he was the 'new' starting right guard...dozier started on the right side and davis replaced him....

snap count:

cole C....79%
cabral C...21%

samia LG...79%
hinton LG...21%
davis RG...74%
dozier RG...26%

brandel LT...100%
kslezarczyk RT...47%
bailey RT...53%

Courtney Cronin@CourtneyRCronin
Andre Patterson on his approach to playing Stephen Weatherly & DJ Wonnum vs. Denver: "[Weatherly] played because there’s a competition there. There’s a competition there between him and D.J. to see who’s going to be the other starting end. So, to be fair, they both have to play.

"I didn’t think it was fair for Stephen not to play and for D.J. to play, & that’s why I made the decision they both would play. They both played the same amount of reps. They both did some good, and they both did some bad. The evaluation continues through the next preseason game"

Courtney Cronin@CourtneyRCronin
Dede Westbrook probably got the most work in practice today than he has all training camp. Fielded punts and moved around more and went through individuals with the receivers.

Courtney Cronin@CourtneyRCronin
Practice (No. 16, I think?) is over.
-Anthony Barr, who has “something that he’s dealing with” didnt practice again. He came out to stand on sidelines with abt 45 mins left.
-Justin Jefferson was held out of practice
-Tyler Conklin had a wrap on his left leg, didn’t practice

Source confirms Everson Griffen will work out for the #Vikings tomorrow. He’s had a couple discussions with them over the past two years about going back; we’ll see if this one leads to a deal.

I hope they put a note in cousins’ locker that reads ‘get vaccinated or we sign him’.

i think that weatherly might overplay the run...he's got all the physical tools, but didn't seem to put any noticeable pressure on denver's qb's....

weatherly has a dead cap of $500k - we'd save $2m if we cut him - just about what it would cost to sign griffin....

Do you think so? I figured as bad as Griffin wants to be here, and he ain't signed anywhere else, he'd be playing for the min. - put that extra million towards a punter if need be

Yes I do. Everson made some nasty comments about Kirk on social media questioning his skill and value. That kind of thing doesn't just go away.

Seems to me his entire life is about people not liking him. I'd think he'd hate the media and people of MN - maybe the coach - much more than Griffin. If he hasn't developed a thicker skin and the ability to focus on what's important by now there's no hope. One guy ain't gonna make it much worse, imo.

- maybe if everyone else was vaccinated ... never mind

[fixed my faux pas above]

it's hard to say - i heard somebody mention $4m earlier...if his head and body are in shape, i say sign him - i'm not concerned about what he tweeted....

Griffin's recent history tells me that his head and body are not in shape. We would be his third team change in two years and fourth team change in three years. For a veteran of eleven years to spout off on the QB of the team he hopes to sign with confirms to me what I thought I knew. He needs to work on himself and the NFL is one of the worst places for that.

Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe it'd be the best place. He's at the end, no doubt. Leaving with a bitter taste can't be as good for the mind as leaving successfully, imo. If he fails how much worse can it be. And I'm not taking the mental health aspect of it for granted even a little way - just different than you is all. All we have is snap shots - we both probably don't know shit from Cheyenne regarding what's good for him. I guess we'll see what happens.

I'm glad he's here and I'm rooting hard for him.

We know a bit more than shit. He had a massive breakdown that caused him to miss time. He then has bounced to a couple of teams in one season. Then he had no self control while online. These are classic cries for help.

And there are a lot of people who have went through worse that are happy successful people right now.

I believe everyone is different. And it is easy to judge from a distance.

I also believe you have witnessed plenty to form solid opinions in the matter so it wouldn't surprise me if you are right. But looking thorough my shades it ain't gonna surprise me if he does well. But I'm not betting my pension on it.

We'll see.

solid. he gets the benefot of the doubt.

criticizing Cousins online, former teamate or not, is perfectly sane in my book, its proof in fact. as long as its not the seething monomaniacal running amok that afflicts Brad. that poor thing.

write griffith off because he’s 34 and can’t stick anywhere … probably because he’s 34, not continuing mental health struggles. we’ll see.

I think he could have 6-8 sacks. I’m just worried about the Vikings being the lead story after another highway incident. sooner or later he needs therapy.

He needs therapy, and they can do that for him.

I am little skeptical about getting him, because he seemed to really go over the deep end, after the Vikes got Richardson. But maybe it's unrelated.

He is still a good player, and can help the team, make it a really nice rotation the DL.

i trust the team to do their due diligence - physical/psychological...we'll talk to his doctors-wife-agent...spielman is not going to hire a guy that's going to come in and phuck up everything he's done to assemble a killer team....

over the last year griffen was checked out by two other teams, and accepted - dak was injured and dallas let him go for financial reasons...the lions and cowboys knew his history - they checked him out and signed him....

everson doesn't want to play anywhere else - he's a minnesota viking, and he'll make the ring-of-honor one day....

everytime i read about udoh practicing at LT i think dozier might still be starting at RG....

Courtney Cronin@CourtneyRCronin
Klint Kubiak on Oli Udoh, the RG w/ the 1s, also getting reps at LT: "He’s going to have to play both. He’s going to have to know both, he’s going to practice reps at both. Right now he’s playing a lot of guard, but Phil Rauscher is cross-training him, as well. Oli knows that. He could be a starting right guard or a starting left tackle at any time, and he has to be ready to perform. And that’s the kind of standard that we’re holding him accountable to."
