If Danielle Hunter wants more money I hope he can just give us a year. Show up and blow up and it's all there for the taking. I hope we pay him but if not we can take 2sts and do something with it.

Couple other guys on D are going to to flash to get paid as well. Barr and Pierce.

One way or another our pass rush is going to 180 from flop to top.

Time for Cousins to stop hoarding our salary cap and prove winning is important vs lining his wallet.

It’s too late for that. Fire spielman.

Judas guys...he just restructured last year. Restructures usually add years or dead cap later (the kind of moves that hurt us for this year). The last thing a Kirk hater wants is more years.....I would think.

I think the Vikings should look into trading Mattison and re-signing Boone if they can get a mid-round pick for him. We have depth at RB and every bit of cap savings is worthwhile.

I would rather trade Cook and his big contract. Mattison is still on his rookie contract.

I think that is incorrect (big contract).....Cook actually has a very friendly team contract this year and next:
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/dalvin-cook-21782/

If they trade him it would be after 2021

I see a handful of guys around the league restructuring their contracts in order to free up cap space. Being as it seems inevitable that Cousins will be our quarterback for another year or two, does anyone see a way to restructure his deal to free up space for the Vikings? Mahomes restructured in Kansas City and it freed up $17-million. Three guys restructured in Chicago and it created $23-million in cap space.

Cousins restructured last year and it cost us more this year. Mahomes and Brady both restructured but at no cost to their pocket book.

Maybe they can do this voidable years thing. But I would guess there would be some downside to it.

Pierce is in the first year of a 3 year $27M contract. As an NT he would have to REALLY flash. I strongly doubt regardless that his contract will change to HIS benefit before the 2023 season. Even that is unlikely.

They restructured Reiff and Cousins last year to have enough to sign the DE.....Now we are paying Kirk more this year and the next. They should have frontloaded Kirk more instead of the opposite.

Minnesota Vikings
Chris Tomasson
@christomasson
So the #Vikings will save $2.9 million on the salary cap by restructuring Anthony Barr's contract. That now gives them about $12.25 million of cap room.

It looks like it's still over a 5 million dollar cap hit for Cook and less than one million for Mattison, so I do get that point. I'm really an Alexander Mattison fan and all and I think I was reacting emotionally. I've also considered myself an Anthony Barr fan, although I have to admit that I've been a bit disappointed in his play. I don't fault him for the injury last year, but I really want to see him step up his game this year. I do believe that linebackers can look a lot better when they have some stout defensive tackles who don't yield at the line of scrimmage. That frees up the linebackers to make plays. That should help Barr play better this year and I bet he knows that.

I was mistaking under the impression that you could tap out bc of covid and it counted. Even if I was right I might still have been wrong.

I think they received 300-350k if they opted out for the year.....

The contracts of people that opted out tolled.

Pierce got his 2M signing bonus he was due last year and he got a 350K "stipend" because he qualified as a “high-risk” opt-out.

Essentially his signing bonus structure stayed exactly the same, while his contract slid forward one year.

Time for Cousins to stop hoarding our salary cap and prove winning is important vs lining his wallet.

That's a really stupid article. No one is just going to give up tens of millions of dollars because he's on a badly managed team.

It’s too late for that. Fire spielman.

Judas guys...he just restructured last year. Restructures usually add years or dead cap later (the kind of moves that hurt us for this year). The last thing a Kirk hater wants is more years.....I would think.

100% agree, Phil. If you hate Cousins, the last thing you want him to do is give up money this year....unless you expect him to just pass on it permanently.

Brady, big Ben both giving up money so they can build a stronger team around them.

Cousins has the 4th highest cap hit this year and the highest next year.

Umm. Neither gave up money...just added voidable years to kick the can down the road. Look at the Dead cap of their contracts.

Pretty much the same thing that was done with Kirk in 2020. NO is in a world of hurt...Brees had to resign another contract before retirement so they could kick some more.

The ultimate compromise would be to allow Danielle to void the final 2 years of his deal, play 2021 (as is $12.15M base) as a contract year and let him flex in free agency if the neck is good to go.

Tomlinson’s pass rush productivity last year was 5.0%, 25th best of 53 starting DTs.

That’s comparable to Shelby Harris (5.3%), Suh (5.3%), Richardson (5.1%), Clark (4.5%) and Simmons (4.3%).

Shamar Stephen (1.5%) was 52nd of 53 last year.

Jaleel Johnson (1.3%) was 53rd.

We really didn't need to see PFF stats on those two...they just sucked.

Not bad considering a NTs first responsibility is occupying blockers.

Our DLine is similar to TB. Two huge DTs bull rushing with DEs speed rushing on the edge.

No. I've heard the team is high on him. He's got a low cap number, too.
