Yep. It has always been my contention that Burnsie was the founder of the West Coast Offense.
Considering how he lived I'm amazed that he made it to 94.

It matters because what's his name (I just remembered Bill Walsh) in San Francisco is always credited as the genius who invented the WCO. He basically borrowed Burnsie's offense and added his own twists. Burns was the creator/innovator more than anyone else and deserves the credit.

Yes we had Foreman a great pass catching RB. Ricky Young IIRC was another. Disco Darren Nelson another. All big time pass catching RBs.

Professional coaching career
Burns was 38 years of age when he was fired at Iowa. He moved on to the Green Bay Packers of the NFL and served for two years as an assistant coach to Vince Lombardi in 1966 and 1967 when the Packers won Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II.[8][9] When Lombardi retired after the 1967 season, Burns was hired by Bud Grant of the Minnesota Vikings. Grant hired Burns to be his offensive coordinator. Burns served as Minnesota's offensive coordinator for the next 18 years, from 1968–1985. During that time, the Vikings made the playoffs 12 times, won 11 division titles, and played in four Super Bowls.

I looked and Dave Osborn and Bill Brown each had mid 200 yards in reception yards his first year on the job.

Mike Hughes will attempt to return from a neck injury that ended his 2020 season, but it won’t be with the Vikings.

Minnesota dealt the cornerback and a 2022 seventh-round pick to the Kansas City on Thursday for the Chiefs’ 2022 sixth-round pick. Adam Schefter and Field Yates broke the story for ESPN.

The Vikings’ 2018 first-round pick, Hughes never was able to stay healthy during his time in Minnesota. He suffered a torn ACL as a rookie that limited him to six games in 2018 and 14 in 2019. Hughes sustained a cracked vertebra in Week 17 of the 2019 season and did not appear in the playoffs.

Hughes played in four games and started two early in the 2020 season, but he injured his neck in Week 6 against Atlanta and ended up on injured reserve. The 24-year-old had two interceptions, 13 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 24 games and seven starts with the Vikings.

Hughes’ career got off to a great start in 2018 as he returned an interception for a touchdown in the Vikings’ season-opening victory over San Francisco.

The Vikings took Hughes with the 30th selection of the 2018 draft out of Central Florida, two picks before Baltimore selected quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was the 2019 NFL MVP. The Vikings did not pick up the fifth-year option on Hughes’ contract last spring. He is set to make $1.826 million in the final year of his rookie contract in 2021.

The Vikings are likely to open the season with 2020 third-round pick Cameron Dantzler and veteran free agent addition Patrick Peterson playing as the outside corners and Mackensie Alexander, who returned as a free agent this offseason after a year in Cincinnati, playing inside in the nickel.

There has been no word on the status of Jeff Gladney, the Vikings’ second pick of the first round in 2020. He turned himself into authorities in Dallas in April after an arrest warrant was issued against him for felony family violence assault. Gladney posted a $10,000 bond following his arrest.

The other cornerbacks on the Vikings’ depth chart include Kris Boyd, Harrison Hand and Dylan Mabin.

The pick 6 was the only highlight of his career. The stats have been posted before, but his "best" QB rating allowed when targeted was something around 98 and that was in 2018, if I remember right. It was 120 in 2019. Never was better than league average. That's f****** awful for a 1st round pick (to quote Burnsie).

Neither the choice at the time (go look at the thread from that year) nor his performance is "revisionist". Inconsistent is a nice way to put his performance against the pass, and he did nothing against the run.

Not even worth discussion.

Hughes was a rookie day 1. He was inconsistent as a rookie. There's a common theme here somewhere ...

Hard to develop into and around major injuries.

He might have been a terrible cb without the injuries ... its impossible to know. Be interesting to see if he ever stays healthy in KC.

If Gladney gets found guilty of anything ... our cb depth will suddenly have evaporated. (not saying our depth is more important than justice in a domestic violence case...)

Not only Hernandez, there was Daniels and the Colts lineman drafted (probably more, I'd have to look up the draft).

Willing to bet all of them earn a second contract with the team that drafted them (2nd round lineman) where Hughes won't be playing in 2-3 years.
