My response isn't directed at you personally, I'm 100% guilty of it too.

Another way to describe it: I "speculate" that - removing religious bias since the Catholic church had such influence - an average person would have understood Copernicus' heliocentric theory in the 1500s. I don't believe the average person today understands, in the same way, say how mRNA vaccine works. In the same arena as Chimeric antigen receptor therapy(CAR-T). CAR-T is becoming the standard of care for blood cancers and many believe other cancer types. Some people reject the science of mRNA but will fight for CAR-T for themselves and their loved ones (generalized).

Overly simplified but I'll move on and let the thread go back to Star War discussions.

I hardly ever talk politics anymore. I hate when science enters the political realm and can't even talk with my own family about it (science when politicized) and that's having degrees in biology & chemistry.

I find the Dunning-Kruger effect to be more and more prevalent.

In my life I've heard of the Kruger Dunning Effect twice. Both times on this message board. Today due to your use I looked it up to become more knowledgeable about it. Wiki says future studies somewhat debunked Kruger and Dunning's findings, but all in all it has merit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect

Didn't some philosopher come up with this effect way before Dunning and Kruger. Somebody said something like wisdom is knowing that you know nothing.

Aren't you the sage.

And how can a study that has not yet occurred debunk something?

Let me help you with this. Future studies from the time of the original one. They were in the future from the original. Not future studies from after today that have not happened yet.

Thanks for the explanation.

Vanilla Ice just seems gay. I don't think he was. Prince I'm guessing might have experimented, but pretty sure he's "mostly straight"

There is a lot of bad thinking that infects society/humans/this board/me. We are limited beings, but the limits may be influencing more because there is such increasing complexity in the world as things develop and as there is more that is brought to light, but especially because we self-limit through willfulness, bad thinking, and cultish certainty. This is relevant in this thread because it comes up all the time. People fixate on things as a global explanation (Kirk Cousins, the o-line, etc.) when there is clearly more to the story. People present stats and ratings (PFF) selectively. People reach for pablum ("It can't be any worse" re: playing Samia in 2019) that is meaningless, but easy to say. We all do this to greater or lesser extents, as Pager said, both on this board and in our broader dealings, and this bad process multiplies and becomes determinative in our outputs. We get circular arguing about the same stuff here (Cousins, Spielman, Zimmer, etc.) and dysfunctional institutions and societal infrastructure (Gamestop stock, Dogecoin making some rich and ruining others).

Every year around this time this board goes off the rails. No real football news to talk about so hot-button issues invariably come up, and the occasional knock down-drag out argument ensues. Not a criticism, just an observation. Fortunately, June 1st is right around the corner and I expect a flurry of NFL activity as vets start getting the axe. Hoping that RS will use some of our $14mil in cap space to fortify the team at WR, DE and O-line.

Or a poster who shall be nameless posted mainly by importing tweets, many which were simply opinions by others, as the way to make his points. Outsiders presented as so-called experts. Plausible deniability.

Basically posting by proxy.

Yep, and every year a few people post about how excited they are about the June 1st cuts as if they are difference makers.

Fortunately, we already have a sense of who is going to start at every position, unlike previous years when we still had obvious holes on the roster heading into training camp. Could always use more quality depth though.

I like the optimism. I'm always optimistic and often proven wrong. last year just came down to horrible luck with injuries and opt outs. I truly believe we have a team capable of winning it all. Go Vikings.

I'm kind of excited about Smith Marsette as a #3-4 receiver. If he can catch at all he has to be better than Bisi by default. And his highlight tape makes him look really good. Although I watched some Iowa football and only stuck out a few times.

I watched him against USC in a bowl game and he was awesome. When I saw that was him I got stoked, but until he goes against NFL competition, we really have no idea what we've got.

I see Smith-Marsette more as a #4 WR, sorta like Aldrick Robinson, catches a deep pass once in a great while.

I don't fully understand Bisi's regression, thought he might be a great, tough #3 someday, sorta like the aging Boldan, to convert 3rd downs. Does Bisi lack the speed to be that ?

Will having an improved OL, lead KC to more conversions with Bisi on 3rd downs ?

I thought he might be a great slant guy, sorta like the aging Jerry Rice, to score 50 yard TDs. Does he lack the speed to be that?

The answer is you pull comparisons out of your butt and like writing the word "Bisi".

Not to go all stats on the board, but I read somewhere, that Bisi was pretty solid on receiving yards per route. Played well when asked to spot start, I think averaging 75 years a game. Both can be verified.

I like SM, both as a deep threat and to develop. But of course, very early to speculate.

As Brad has posted many times, not a lot of pie left in a two TE/2 WR heavy offense for 3rd/4th WRs.

Article: According to Next Gen Stats, at least one tight end was involved on all but 12 of Minnesota's 1,023 plays in 2020. What's more, the Vikings used two or more tight ends on 445 plays (43.5 percent), with roughly half of those (224) in 12 personnel (one running back, two tight ends, two receivers).

The link below verifies the above. 1RB-2TE-2WR was ran 22% of the time. Near the league average of 20% (NE only 2%!). Some teams were 30+%. It also has a bunch of formation types and we were very high in a couple of little used ones.

https://www.sharpfootballstats.com/personnel-grouping-frequency.html

However, the more telling and meaningful for this topic: 1RB-1TE-3WR set ran 29% of the time. League average was 60%. 32nd by a mile.
