He must think he is going to get starter salary this late in the game? He could get an extra million after June 1st....but I doubt the Vikes offered any more then the minimum right now.

The guy makes plays. 4-5M isn't unreasonable.

If we can fit him and Geno Atkins under cap after June 1st, that would be a nice ending to the off season acquisitions.

IMO 4-5 isn't unreasonable but it is unlikely.

2018 Green Bay 1 yr deal $880,00, $90,000 signing bonus
2019 KC 1 yr deal $2M, $1.15M signing bonus
2020 KC 1 yr $3M, $1.5M signing bonus

"Breeland was arrested on April 28, 2020 for multiple charges, including resisting arrest, having alcohol in a motor vehicle with the seal broken, having an open container of beer or wine in a motor vehicle, possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana or 10 grams of hash, and driving without a license. The police officer who detained Breeland alleged that Breeland threw a “large blunt” into his car and he pushed the deputy out of the way and attempted to flee the officer before he was detained. Police found marijuana in the car as well as open bottles of beer and tequila. The morning after the arrest, he posted to his Twitter that the marijuana was thrown into his car, but quickly deleted the tweets. The arresting officer said that Breeland informed him that he was a “marijuana enthusiast”. Breeland was already facing a suspension for a failed drug test prior to the arrest.[51] He pleaded guilty on October 2, 2020 and received a 30-day suspended jail sentence and $100 fine for each charge"

I don't see a lot of commitment from KC or GB the last 3 years to pay him starter money. I understand his frustration with that but its May 26 ... its not about what he thinks he's owed but what the market offers.

Yes, he has decent experience but he was available when we signed Peterson Alexander. Right or wrong we projected them first (maybe because of their asking price) as our veteran starter competition ... it seems we may have circled back to Breeland as either Gladney insurance or an attempt to get quality depth at a bargain price. Which would be great but I myself would not pay him early free agency type money right now.

Kirk Cousins since 2018 among starting QBs:

- 93.8 grade in a clean pocket (7th)
- 91.1 grade w/ play action (5th)
- 92.3 grade on throws 0-19 yards downfield (4th)
- 90.0 grade when not blitzed (5th)
- 15 TDs on throws 30+ yards downfield (3rd)

There's no doubt about it ... when you keep him clean, he's very good.

If he had an ounce less of Opie 'gee, golly'-ness and an ounce more of 'I am going to make you pay for that you insolent defensive bastards' ... he'd be top ten overall. easy.

Not sure if it is the Oline, Off Cord, or any other excuse...this year there will be a strong armed backup waiting in the wings so we hope he plays pissed off.

Kirk Cousins is a very good QB. I would say we're lucky to have him, but at his salary luck has nothing to do with it.

Never hurts to have depth/experience.

But honestly, unless we know Gladney is going to be suspended for part/full season OR if not and Breeland is willing to accept a Newman level deal (same with Atkins), the cap is too precious. I'd rather the young corners get "some PT". Right now our starters are Peterson, Mac, Danztler. So Gladney might be in play, same with Boyd (who played "relatively" well in limited snaps).

Same goes for our DTs. We have Tomlinson and Pierce. Watts improved at both NT and 3T with PT. I'm "hopeful" Lynch and Twyman can provide some pass rushing specialist snaps. We also got Weatherly who can rotate inside as a rushing specialist.

My cap priorities:
Re-sign ONeil. I'd guess that's a 3M or so hit for this year.
Any cut free agents that fill a specific need that becomes apparent through OTAs/Training camp. Could be CB/G/DE/DT/3rd WR/etc.
Rollover Cap - it's not like a FSA (use it or lose it). Got quite a few guys on 1 yr deals and even with development/next year's draft, we'll need the cap next year.

Surprised they aren't more worried about Safety Depth....but if they have enough corners (PP to safety)? A Charles Woodson type approach maybe?

Bynum/Mettellus/Dorn/Kirk as safety backups is more underwhelming then Dozier as a backup lineman...

Regarding our QB situation.

Cousins isn't the team's problem. He's pretty accurate. Throws way more TDs than INTs (and most of his INTs are due to extreme pressure because of abysmsal Oline in front of him, or deflections off of receivers hands). Add on top of that that he's durable, he's only missed one game since joining the Vikings.

My fear at this point, even though he's no Brees, or Rodgers etc....is if he goes against type and gets hurt and can't play...we are basically ****ed. We have no QB on the roster other than Cousins that has taken a snap in the NFL. I am NOT saying I want Manion back. Just that our Depth at QB right now is at best, tenuous.

To me it seemed like KC really was running smart during the latter half of the season - like he just added that (important skill to his game)

Yeah. He is not in a position to be demanding starter money if he might be suspended by the League.

Here's some more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aneoRnkMc3E

We could always play the Jackson versus Indy game/highlight where 6 fgs wasn't enough to stop INdy from scoring 21 (when we had our top defense) or the NFC Championship game outdoors where Case didn't have the arm strength or Bradford games/season where he is sitting on the bench rubbing his knee or the Teddy practice clip where he was hurt.

It is one thing that Kirk is arguably a top 5/10/15 QB but look at his health and stats compared to just Bradford and Teddy....like someone says around here (we can't have nice things)

Waiting still for someone to come up with a better contingency than Kirk....Bradford/Keenum/Teddy???? There is only one that I feel we could have picked up...Fitzpatrick.

If you don't remember correctly...Teddy tears knee, we trade 1st for Bradford and we had no backup, Bradford plays well all season and we doge a bullet and sign Case next offseason then doge another bullet with Bradford's knee.....we have had how many years with a competent QB who has stayed healthy and there is this....

I will also let you look at this: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CousKi00.htm

to see how many games Kirk has missed since 2015....

OK,

To be clear. David F is clearly making his expert analysis of Cousins based on one game.

Hey David, did you know Tom Brady has had a few bad games in his career. And so did Joe Montana, and Brett Favre, and Steve Young, and Dan Marino, and Drew Brees, and Fran Tarkenton.

I get it. You hate Cousins and wish he would be gone. Your hatred shows clear as day. But Cousins is our QB for this year at the very least, unless some kind of weird ass shit happens as we trade him and a draft pick or two for Russell Wilson.... Get used to it. All the youtube videos and wanton hatred isn't going to change that.

I don't think Cousins is the next Rich Gannon. but adequate is a fair description, IMHO.

all this shit you are posting is missing the entire point of my original post...That after Cousins, we have no depth at QB. Cousins will be OK, he's not the problem. But if he gets hurt we have the likes of Mond, Stanley and Browning on the roster. We'd be ****ed. With Cousins we have a chance. With Cousins we are not ****ed.
