I like the Tomlinson signing.

If we find another Griff or Hunter with one of 4 4ths...look out!

They seem to be able to develop DE easier than NT/DT. I really like what Wonnum and Brailford showed last year at DE...

Phil, I'm agreeing with you left and right!!! Add in Weatherly and I see no real pressure to draft at DE in the first this year unless he's special.

Harrison will be a 32 year old UFA next year. Not sure what to make of Harris. We need a SOTF.

G at 14? No.
S at 14? No. Harrison will be a 32 year old UFA next year. Not sure what to make of Harris. We need a SOTF.
3WR at 14? No.

Some things point to a trade down unless they love a DE.

Trade up for Slater

That could be the move.

Sign a solid OG and they can do whatever they want (maybe even draft a QB).

I like the Tomlinson signing but it sure gives the first day or two of this offseason the same flavor as last offseason. (Well, except for the Diggs trade and WR hole)

(Last offseason March moves in parenthesis)

Re-sign Hill (Hill)

Sign solid IDL Tomlinson (Pierce)

Sign LB Vigil (Gates) ...

Let go of TE Rudy (Morgan)

We also re-signed Dozier and Abdullah last offseason. (I assume Boone and another Dozier type shortly)

Eerie.

Hopefully we are just getting started ... last offseason, that was it before the draft.

I wonder if we are still in on CB Griffin. We would be set at CB then.

Cut Stephen, restructure Smith and Thielen, sign Griffin and an OG? Thoughts Mark?

All depends who falls, but with no 2nd rounder and so many needs, I like a trade back at 14 then multiple trade ups to maximize picks in the top 100 or so.

G, S, WR, DE, DT, CB, QB, LB, RB, TE all could use a player, for depth if nothing else.

I agree ... although I can't see us spending like that at this point.

We've added four 'new' starters this offseason to the front seven ... Hunter, Pierce, Tomlinson, Barr.

Obviously S is a big hole at this moment but that is easier to fill than CB ... and we should not be structuring our cap with so much money tied up at S (if we re-sign Harris). I understand after the year Harris had in 2019 not wanting to let that go ... but now? If I am taking one FA shot at improving the back end, its at CB with the addition of a journeyman/draft pick at S vs. Harris in addition to and a journeyman CB/last year's draft picks. (a high CB draft pick again this year may have to suffice we are just so green at the position)

I don't want to push CB up to the crises level of G and the DE spot opposite Hunter (no, that player is not on the roster yet but I can live with a rotation of a first or second day draft pick + tendering Odenigbo) ... but we still have a lot of work to do on our secondary.

On paper, he sure looks like a better tackler than Wilson. That's a plus.

Better at covering than Gedeon?

Co-#Vikings DC/D-Line coach Andre Patterson talked with Michael Pierce last night, laying out how Dalvin Tomlinson will be the three-technique. Two of Pierce’s high school teammates played with Tomlinson at ‘Bama. Thinking Pierce and Tomlinson will quickly form a nice bond.

This is what I hope they do which guarantees, they won't.

I think Slater will be a monster at G

I'm feeling a lot better about the line than a day ago. I trust Patterson to get Hunter/Pierce/Tomlinson working as a team AND to get the young guys taking the next step. Watts rotates in at 3T and then NT on passing downs. No reason to keep Stephen at that price.

Get a replacement level guard or two, Safety and we can go into the draft looking at BPA.

Does sound like the reworking of WR Adam Thielen's contract is more likely than not to get done. He is not giving back $$. #Vikings

I am more excited this year Tom. Weatherly Back (which you haven't included). Wonnum, Willekes, Brailford and a way younger defense...also the young CBs will have a year more of experience. I think we will be sitting better on that side of the ball already before the draft. Just need to figure out Safety.

By releasing DT Shamar Stephen, the #Vikings free up $3.75 million in cap space.

#Vikings are expected to release DT Shamar Stephen, source said.

#Vikings won’t tender RFA Ifeadi Odenigbo, according to a source. Would’ve cost them $2.1 million to put the low tender on him.

(Ben Goessling on Twitter)

It's still possible he may return. We'll have to see.

Draft: BPA

Good call Phil..

I’m a little better on Tomlinson after the #’s ($8.5 instead of $11) came out.

We certainly are going to be stout upfront in the middle.

We’re gonna have to find someone in Watts or Lynch or even Weatherly sliding over for a pass rushing package. Perhaps Barr has a bigger pass rushing role?

But I love your ideas going forward to the draft, and then Mark crushes it....

Vikings will not tender any of the (E)RFAs this go around. I reported Mike Boone and Chad Beebe yesterday. The latest, per source, is DE Ifeadi Odenigbo, who had 35 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 2020. The lowest cost to keep him would've been the $2.133 right of 1st refusal tender.

What do you guys feel about this as a WR target? Ties to McCardell.

Keelan Cole has developed a bond with who the Vikings just hired to be their new WR coach, former Jags great Keenan McCardell. Just 27 years old, Cole entered the league in 2017 as an undrafted free agent, the same year McCardell started coaching wideouts in Jacksonville. As a rookie, Cole had arguably his greatest season, hauling in 42 receptions for 748 yards and three touchdowns.

More recently, in 2020 Cole handled some punt return duties, even bringing one 90 yards to the house against the Packers. The Vikings could use an influx of talent when it comes to wide receiver depth and when it comes to adding a capable punt returner, Cole could address both needs without breaking the bank.

I don't know what the Vikings were worse at last year: interior offensive line (worst in NFL history and not even close), defensive tackle (worse than IOL!), or special teams. We used to do polls once upon a time here. Can we do a poll of that question"

Regardless, the team definitely needs to find a better option for return men and kicker too, of course.

The special teams last season were beyond bad. The lines were tied for second place in the bad column. The punt average alone would make the ST unit the worst on the team.

So all these different aspects of the team were so bad. Epically bad. Yet Kirk gets all of the blame.
