I like the Tomlinson signing but it sure gives the first day or two of this offseason the same flavor as last offseason. (Well, except for the Diggs trade and WR hole)

(Last offseason March moves in parenthesis)

Re-sign Hill (Hill)

Sign solid IDL Tomlinson (Pierce)

Sign LB Vigil (Gates) ...

Let go of TE Rudy (Morgan)

We also re-signed Dozier and Abdullah last offseason. (I assume Boone and another Dozier type shortly)

Eerie.

Hopefully we are just getting started ... last offseason, that was it before the draft.

I am more excited this year Tom. Weatherly Back (which you haven't included). Wonnum, Willekes, Brailford and a way younger defense...also the young CBs will have a year more of experience. I think we will be sitting better on that side of the ball already before the draft. Just need to figure out Safety.

Weatherly is a good catch, I spaced it.

2020 was 7-9. We had good offensive production and the defense is already better on paper, so there's reason to be hopeful.

However, Weatherly and the young players you mentioned do nothing for me in terms of improving on last year. It's possible but right now that is simply hopefulness ... the same as Samia and Udoh the year before, that people in here were touting.

G, DE, S clearly need attention. CB, WR could use some as well. The draft can answer two of those in the first 2 rounds, maybe the third rd if we're lucky.

There's still alot of work to do.

I don't know what the Vikings were worse at last year: interior offensive line (worst in NFL history and not even close), defensive tackle (worse than IOL!), or special teams. We used to do polls once upon a time here. Can we do a poll of that question"

Regardless, the team definitely needs to find a better option for return men and kicker too, of course.

The special teams last season were beyond bad. The lines were tied for second place in the bad column. The punt average alone would make the ST unit the worst on the team.

So all these different aspects of the team were so bad. Epically bad. Yet Kirk gets all of the blame.

Hey Bruce,

I don't think anyone blames Kirk for last year.

imo: I just don't think he's good enough, considering what his % salary cap #, to win a Super Bowl, which is all I care about, with this team without the stars aligning a once in a millennia.

I think it's a huge mistake not to trade him, not because he's bad, he's above average, just not good enough.

I think that after restructuring Thielen and Smith and after Stephen release a couple of those will fill......I see Ant Harris/Keenan Cole and a OG. I am hoping more of Curtis Samuel then Keenan as the WR prices and safety prices are dropping.

IMO, no reason to go after a No. 3 wide receiver. Irv Smith is going to be your No. 2 or No. 3 receiver next year. I'd be stunned if he didn't finish with 75+ receptions.

I don't blame Kirk for all of our issues, either. He makes some incredible throws, and has some ability. I really blame the front office and questionable coaching for last year's disappointing season. Starting rookies at the corner spots, not building up an even average oline after investing so much in a pocket passer, and no plan on special teams is what wrecked us out last season.

If we add at least one guard in FA, and one of the Bama receivers fall to us at #14 I could see us going the sexy pick route.
I know Bradley would love that.

Barr and Kendricks are going to have a monster season if they can stay healthy. The Vikings still need to address their pass rush, though.

i think/hope we're still going after griffen...i could live with; hunter, wonnum, weatherly, willekes - griffen...and perhaps a new kid in this year's draft....

plus, if we could develop watts and lynch in the middle that would be very helpful....

i always considered rashod hill a good backup tackle, but i'm getting a feeling that this season spielman sees him as a starting guard....

I don't think he has ever played a snap for us at G. One would think he would have been used there considering how bad we were at G last season.

yes, i thought it was strange last week when i saw hill listed on spotrac as a free agent guard - and he's now listed as a guard on the official vikings roster...i wonder if spielman had something to do with that....

Both Bama receivers that came out last year were mediocre, at-best. Neither remembered how to catch the ball.

Former Cowboys' QB Andy Dalton is signing a one-year, $10 million deal, with the chance to earn another $3 million in incentives, with the Chicago Bears, per sources.

The #Vikings get four games against Andy Dalton and Jared Goff this season.

No reason to give free agent money to a No. 3 wide receiver. Those guys are a dime a dozen. If Jefferson, Thielen and Cook catch as many balls as last year and Smith catches 75, there is no reason to sign a No. 3 guy. Draft a guy late and he will be just as valuable.

I like the Tomlinson signing.

If we find another Griff or Hunter with one of 4 4ths...look out!

They seem to be able to develop DE easier than NT/DT. I really like what Wonnum and Brailford showed last year at DE...

Phil, I'm agreeing with you left and right!!! Add in Weatherly and I see no real pressure to draft at DE in the first this year unless he's special.

Harrison will be a 32 year old UFA next year. Not sure what to make of Harris. We need a SOTF.

G at 14? No.
S at 14? No. Harrison will be a 32 year old UFA next year. Not sure what to make of Harris. We need a SOTF.
3WR at 14? No.

Some things point to a trade down unless they love a DE.

Trade up for Slater

That could be the move.

Sign a solid OG and they can do whatever they want (maybe even draft a QB).

That's the way I see it, but they also have to sign a presentable S and 3rd WR. But I don't think they'll draft a QB in the first. Maybe if they were going into Kirk's last year under contract, but I don't think they see that as a move for now or the near future, and I don't see them looking beyond that.

I like this - should solidify our CB room. Checks another box.

I can confirm that the #Vikings have expressed interest in Atlanta free-agent safety Keanu Neal, but it's early interest. A Pro Bowler in 2017, he had injury issues in 2018 and 2019 and played in just four games those years. But did bounce back to play in 15 in 2020.

Former Cowboys' QB Andy Dalton is signing a one-year, $10 million deal, with the chance to earn another $3 million in incentives, with the Chicago Bears, per sources.

The #Vikings get four games against Andy Dalton and Jared Goff this season.

Andy Dalton kicked our ass last year.

What's your opinion on former USC CB Adoree Jackson? He came into league touted as a playmaker with speed to burn.

Titans cut him today.

27 PDs and 2 INTs in first 2 seasons. Not much of anything after that.

Take a one year flyer on the guy or just an over hyped guy?

Except I prefer a free agent corner who plays on the outside. I like Gladney at the nickel going forward.

If acquiring Watson (I like Watson too) could come without such a high price I would do that. I agree that Cousins is not the best quarterback in the league, but he's on the next level after the elite and I believe he cold be better than he has shown with a reasonably good offensive line and a defense that keeps the opponents under 30 points.

Gladney was playing outside until we needed a slot corner. Mac has long wanted to play outside and I believe he got some snaps on the outside albeit limited (I think like 20% of his snaps). Not many plug and play corners that know our system.

Not gonna lie, I really haven't followed his career so far. Tennessee had one of the worst third down defenses in the league last season so not many guys were making plays when it counted.

With Tomlinson’s $9.75 million cap hit in 2021, the #Vikings should be around $12.1 million in remaining cap space once they officially convert $10 million of Adam Thielen’s base salary into a signing bonus, as is expected.
