I haven't confirmed, but it looks like Patrick Peterson is coming to the Vikings for 10 million.

This from Adam Schefter, so it must be true:

Perennial Pro-Bowl CB Patrick Peterson has reached agreement on a one-year, $10 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings, per source.

My question is will Peterson play safety, corner, or both, or even some kind of hybrid in nickel packages. How will he be used? Obviously he brings veteran experience and leadership. The young corners will clearly be wanting to tap into his understanding of the game and he will command their respect.

Didn't see that coming. Peterson was a really good player in his prime.

That's a lot of cap space for an aging player. Always liked him though.

Appearing status quo with Spielman's annual "do nothing" about the oline.

I also read that Tomlinson has had the best run stuff rate and comes to a team with the worst run stuff rate.

You'll notice that the money in free agency is going to the defense. Big bucks for a DT, CB and even more than the minimum for a backup linebacker who plays special teams well. On offense we let go of arguably our most proficient offense lineman from last year, but we re-,signed his backup for the minimum. All the evidence leads me to believe that the team will draft an offensive lineman in the first round. It's a good and deep draft for safeties, so that may come next. The team will also definitely draft a G, an RB and a WR. Mostly offense, in other words.

Edit:. Oh, and an edge rusher, but again, we did use free agency for that defensive position too. Our defense will definitely be more experienced than last year.

Re: Peterson

My first thought was "wow!"

then, "What's wrong with him?"

he was an incredible player, does he have anything left in the tank?

seems like an odd signing for first tier FA

I think that just having him in the cb room with the young guys will make them better. He still has some game left in the tank, too.

He's only 30 years old!

That's 2 years younger than Harrison Smith.

The 4 Pro Bowl CBs last year were 26, 29, 30 and 30.

The only reason his Pro Bowl streak was snapped at 8 years was a PED suspension made him ineligible.

61 tackles, 8 PDs, 3 INTs last year.

Career averages are: 50 Tackles, 9 PDs, 3 INTs.

Peterson tweeted that he'd be open to playing S.

I don't think he has fallen off a cliff. just merely lost a step and can't keep up to the quick twitch wr's.

Peterson will benefit greatly from not having to be that CB1 anymore and shadow WR1s. Him and Dantzler will likely play sides.

His PFF rating did drop last year. I believe he is past his prime, but his prime was elite- one of the best ever. If he can stay healthy and approach the neighborhood of his peak, he will play at a very high level. Maybe Zimmer's experience with working with Newman will help.

Hopefully picking up Peterson squelches Zimmer from getting another 1st rd CB

I was shocked that he is only 30.

Should be able to hold his own plus be a mentor to the young guys.

Is Peterson's contract a push with Thielen's restructure(cap wise)?

He’s a month younger than Xavier Rhodes.

Yeah !! I can once again yell "Peterson!" REALLY loud again while watching the Vikings play [with a Popping sound on the "P", lol]

I remember being at a Super Bowl party watching, I think it was the Saints and Colts playing, and after quite a few drinks, yelling out "Peterson!!", after some backup named Peterson ran the ball, Lol.

And then someone saying, "That's not the right Peterson", to which I responded, "You got that right!". Thinking of how the officials screwed the Vikings in OT of the Championship game, and or how much better it would have been, had it been the Vikings walloping the Colts in the Super Bowl.

Yep...that one. He was great here, wasn't he? Welcome Patrick Peterson...PFF 90th rated CB last year! I think Danzler was rated higher lol.

I initially wasn't a fan of this signing, but now that Jeff says it's horrible, I feel like it could work out.
