i hope that kam has the 'art of the deal' down...I'm concerned that he might not be as balls out as spielman...if we're trading cousins, i mean...i want at least one 1st round pick -- two, if we're taking back a Mayfield type for cap reasons....

This team is currently 16 million dollars over the cap for 2022 season.

8 million dollars in dead money to players no longer on the roster, but still getting paid for Spielman contracts.

Currently their are 57 players under contract.

20 player are either outright Free Agents, or in kicker Greg Joseph’s case, he is a RFA.

Both the punter and kicker need contracts or replacements.

KAM AND KOC have a lot of work to do just to field a team, let alone contend for the playoffs.

Spielman and Zimmer used smoke and mirrors, to come up short in wins, playoff appearances and a sustainable roster.

The New Management team has a holy clustermuck of handcuffs, leg irons, ball gags and blindfolds on, with no cap hell reprieve in site.

Some are saying we just need a few things here and there to be in the picture for a run at a Super Bowl..

I see at least 1-2 years of struggling to be competitive under the weight of idiotic contracts.

I can accept a regrouping if you will, not a rebuild, for a year or 2 is if we do it wo Cousins.

No way this same offense comes back next year and struggles.

There's no way this same offense doesn't come back and win a Rodgersless NFCN for the next 2 years.
I expect a competent FA QB to do the same.

If we draft and start a rookie I concede it might take a year or 2 unless they find lightening in a bottle.

assuming we keep cousins - we should see these things happen over the next several weeks....

extend cousins to lower his cap, or add ghost years to his existing deal and lower his cap hit in 2022 by about $20m....

extend hunter or change his roster bonus to a signing bonus and lower his cap hit in 2022 by about $15m....

redesign other existing contracts, and/or cut players that will lower our cap hit in 2022 by about $15m....

$20 + $15m + $15m = $50m - $14m = $36m under the 2022 cap

free agents:

center - $8m
guard - $5m
2 - cb's - $12m
thumper linebacker/2down - $2.5m
Anthony Barr - i watched 'locked on vikings' yesterday and the dude explained that if we keep barr we can save 2022 cap space....

leaves us with about $9m for the draft and other things....

kick ass and win Super Bowl

Barr and Richard sons contracts void.. we well be on the hook for about 12 million in dead cap, for prorated bonus money.

League year starts on March 16, 2022 at 4 pm..

All teams need to be under the cap at that time.

The Vikings need to rework a lot of contracts to get under the cap, essentially kicking cap money down the road, to get room under the cap.

It’s a mess..

I’ll be impressed, but I’m hoping it doesn’t involve giving Cousins a Five year extension with full guarantees.

We will see.

Yeah I think that between figuring out Hunter, Pierce, Smith, Tomlinson, and Thielen they can get plenty of money under the cap.

I wouldn't restructure Cousins....at least not unless it is short term and doesn't hurt the future cap.

Do you ever read Dailynorseman?

A guy that used to post in here(MarkSP18) has five off season plans(restructuring, FA, Draft, Cousins).

Plenty of ways to find some $$$. Do some of his ideas include wearing purple colored glasses, yeah.

But, there are ways to have a very competitive team next year.

Word is that Cousin's agents have told the Vikings that he won't take a pay cut, and any extension needs to average $40 mil a year. That's a non-starter, so its either a trade or one more year of Kirk at $45 mil. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Vikings are able to move Cousins. If Cousins stays, we're looking at the same o-line issues as last year as there's no way to upgrade. But if we move him, suddenly we can fix the line once and for all, get a bridge QB to stay competitive, and really compete in 2023.

For 2022, one could argue that a lineup that includes Jameis Winston + Brandon Sherff (G) + Brian Allen (C) could be as competitive as Cousins + existing o-line.

Well it’s no surprise that cousins is not interested in doing a deal.

He has a winning lottery ticket, all he needs to do is cash it.

This should surprise nobody. If he wasn't willing to get a vaccine for the good of the team, he won't be taking a pay cut for the good of the team.

Cousins is a selfish individual. Those guys don't usually win Super Bowl rings.

Hoping Carolina gets all kinds of stupid.

Rumor has it that Carolina picked up the phone and called us. They're saying the talks didn't go anywhere. My hope is they're going to pinch them not only for pick #6 but also a conditional pick in 2023.

No team is going to take on a 45M contract. Much less give up valuable picks for a one year 45M rental. That's just crazy talk.

Have Cousins work out an extension with another team so we can work a trade? That's fantasyland as well. Cousins and his accounting teams will laugh their asses off unless they are offered the inflated above-market deals Spielman has been baby spooning him. Or, they will just wait a year and let the feeding frenzy of FA drive their asking price.

The only possible deal would be reworking the language of his contract and paying part of that to move him. So we convert 25M of salary or whatever and pay a bonus of some kind, the other team pays his 20M salary for a one year rental and gives us a 3rd this year etc.

Rogers 46M
Mahomes 38M
Tannehill 38M
Wilson 37M
Prescott 34M
(Stafford 23M)

I will agree with sportrac.com and put Cousins' estimated market value at 34.3 (even though I have no idea how they arrived at their number) ... it sounds about right to me.

Let somebody else take the me-a-moron baton from us and deal with Cousins in 2023 ... yeah he's a good QB and those are very hard to come by ... but he's only good in certain situations AND he's also uniquely toxic to a team's cap: PLEASE DO NOT EXTEND

We have one of the five worst cap situations in the league ... we can not absorb anymore top of the line contracts for a year or two until our current inflammation calms down.

today we've already paid cousins $10m and owe him another $35m...we pay him another $12.5m and the trading team pays him $27.5m -- cousins makes an extra $5m as an incentive...the trading team can work out a three-year deal that works for them and cousins....

we save $22.5m in cap space and get a 1st round pick....

The Vikes still need coaches for the defense and special teams unless they are retaining some current ones. I have not seen anything about retaining some coaches.

The Vikes aren't in cap hell.

Hunter will be released saving 18.5 million or the roster bonus will be converted over 4 years to put the cap at literally zero.

Restructure a couple of guys and don't touch Cousins contract.

The #Vikings are hiring Matt Daniels as their special teams coordinator, source said.

Daniels – the 32-year-old former NFL defensive back – most recently was the assistant special teams coordinator in Dallas.
