Still wonder what Kwesi's M.O. is. Swing for the fences and take a potential gamechanger/freak/boom-bust type like Stingley, Williams, or Davis? Or play it safe and take a McDuffie type?

So far IMO his approach is play it safe, be methodical, and vanilla while seeking value. In his perfect world, commercials begin as soon as every Vikings pick is ready to be announced, and the networks have moved on without even 'catching up' on past picks.

Predicting he will successfully execute a small trade down and take McDuffie.

I'd be disappointed if Kwesi went with McDuffie. He sounds like he can be a very good pro, but he's not going to be a game changer. Conversely, Williams sounds like he has the potential to be another Justin Jefferson. Reports say that if not for the ACL injury he probably goes top 5. Throw in the fact that Theilen can no longer be relied upon to avoid injury and Williams would make a ton of sense at 12, then draft a CB in round 2.

Today, sure to change tomorrow, but I can't get excited about a one-year wonder WR in the first 15 picks that is freshly injured.

I' might take one of the Ohio St. dudes before Williams (who kept Williams on the bench before he transferred to Alabama). [later on, I would not take any of them at 12]

Did Williams look spectacular last year before the injury? yes (flying around, sudden, explosive). Before last year? No. At least he played well last year unlike Stingley.

With Stingley, you have to find a shovel and dig up one of those time capsules to see how he used to play.

You may have a point with Williams' year at Ohio St, but to say he was a one-year wonder at Alabama is a bit disingenuous. Look at who else was there:

In two straight NFL Drafts, the Crimson Tide had two first-round receivers — Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III in 2020, and Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith in 2021.

Before starting in 2021, Williams played behind Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson for two seasons at OU. Yes, that is a stacked lineup. But ... 6 rec in 2019 as a reserve and 9 recs while starting 6 of 8 games in 2020 ... that doesn't raise any questions?

Then the spectacular 2021 at Alabama. Then the ACL tear Jan 10.

He may miss games this season, he will certainly miss the offseason. "Williams said at the NFL combine in early March that he was given a five-to-seven month timetable for recovery and that he was told he was 'ahead of schedule' at that point."

Which would make two seasons in row of drafting first rounders that limp into our season.

I just watch video of his football games.

There is an excellent chance Williams will be gone before our pick.
I'm guessing we go with Stingley unless we execute a trade down.

i think that kwesi trades up for him...jameson williams on the vikings is such a game-changer - IMO he would give kwesi and o'connell instant success....

I think trading up for any player of any flavor would be a grand mistake.

Agreed. It was port wine time over there when he posted.

From all the mock drafts I've checked out, it appears that one (or more) of these guys will be available at 12:

WR - Jameson Williams
S - Kyle Hamilton
DE - Jermaine Johnson
CB - Derek Stingley Jr.

All positions of need for the Vikings, and all of them have the potential to be game changers. If one of them is there at 12, I hope Kwesi pulls the trigger instead of trading back.

Why does J Johnson have the potential to be a game changer? Is DE an all time deep position?

I would be fine with a WR if there is a way to get CB Bradberry from the Giants for a middle round pick.

I think trading for Bradberry is a real possibility. It would take pressure off feeling the necessity to draft cb early.

Is he also a minimum wage sort or do we need to get out the credit card?

After watching highlights of Garrett Wilson, I see why many see him as the #1 WR in this draft. He looks so smooth, makes everything look easy.

Updating to 4 players that would really be exciting at pick #12:

Picks at 12 that would get me most excited in order:

1) QB Kenny Pickett
2) WR Garrett Wilson
3) WR Jameson Williams
4) S Kyle Hamilton

Pickett would be flushing the pick down the toilet. Most mocks don't even have him going in the top 20 anymore.

28 years old in his prime and a top 100 player. 13 million a year. Would take a restructure. Giants are over the cap and rumors are a fourth or fifth rounder as they are desperate.

Almost every year a top 5-10 player drops like a rock.

Looking a lot like Thibodeaux is the leading candidate this year.

But what if Stingly is available at 12 and the Vikings don't pick him? I'm sure other teams would take that as a huge sign being we hired LSU's DC to be our DB's coach and coupling in our need for a cb.

It's pretty hard to beat the 1/2 punch of Cousins/Mannion, but I think Sloter or Pickett could come in as 3rd stringers and win some pre-season games.

I'm going to bed with thoughts of us trading up. For Sauce or Hamilton.

I guess I just want KOM to really want a guy and go get him.

Interesting. In his highly-anticipated final mock draft, @MelKiperESPN has Oregon DE Kayvon Thibodeaux going to the Vikings at No. 12, with LSU CB Derek Stingley Jr. already off the board at that point.

I would rather draft the Cincy QB in the third than Pickett. Zero reason to draft a QB or WR in the 1st IMO.

NFL mock draft 2022: Todd McShay's final predictions for all 32 first-round picks, QB landing spots, trades, more

12. Minnesota Vikings
Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

Xavier Woods left in free agency, and Harrison Smith is 33 years old. Hamilton comes at pretty good value, and he has a unique combination of range, size, length and ball skills. Before his knee injury in October, Hamilton picked off three passes.

(He has Stingley at 3, Gardner at 7, Thibodeauxat at 8, Davis at 14 and Williams at 15)

NFL mock draft 2022: Mel Kiper's final predictions for first 32 picks, including a quarterback surprise and top-10 shuffle

12. Minnesota Vikings
Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE, Oregon

This is a bit of a slide for Thibodeaux -- my preseason No. 1 prospect -- but he'd land in a great situation in Minnesota. And he wouldn't have a ton of early pressure on him. He could play on the other side of Danielle Hunter.

(He has Gardner at 4, Stingley at 9, Hamilton at 13, Davis at 14 and Williams at 15)

Lots of articles about the various things Thibodeaux is doing to create a brand. I'd pass.

Other teams might see that Stingley pass as a knock on the player, but they can't be certain because they might think we are going in another direction... for example CB in the 2nd. But I tend to agree with you on that. Plus feedback from JJ.

Before free agency, our biggest holes were C (Bradbury), G (Cole, Udoh), CB1, CB2 (Peterson), SCB (Alexander), LB (Barr, Vigil), DE / Edge [opposite of Hunter], NT (Pierce), TE (Conklin), FS (Woods)

If you give the benefit of the doubt to our FA signings (Edge Smith, LB Hicks, NT Phillips, SCB Sullivan, CB2 Peterson, G Reed), our biggest holes remaining are:

C, CB1, S, TE [IMO Bynum and Smith are promising but still question marks as full-time starters ... they need real competition and depth]

Also WR, Edge, OT ... depth sucks everywhere but RB … so premium positions could easily be addressed for depth now and cap flexibility later.

I can't see a TE or C prospect worth taking in the first two rds (unless Linderbaum drops).

So first two rds, I believe we are looking at best prospects at WR, Edge, OL, CB, S.

Subtract two positions and add TE and C to our third rd pool.

This should clear everything up.
