Can't believe you guys are still trying to parse the final play. How about we agree on this? The Giants outplayed the Vikings on that play.

I liked seeing and discussing Warner's analysis. Is there news about something else? A brewing rumor?

What's of importance to me is that five days removed from the end of the season, Ed Donatell is still an employee of the franchise.

Terminated late yesterday afternoon.

Oh sweet. Just woke up and didn't see that.

Ruesse made a big stink about waiting until after the presser.

in case you're wondering why the Vikings blamed Ed Donatell (and not a supposed lack of talent), watch Kurt Warner break down Daniel Jones in the wildcard game and count how many times Warner says something like "I have no idea what the Vikings are doing"

I'm getting the feeling that Donatell was such a nice guy his players continued to try to execute his scheme even though it is crystal clear they had no idea what it was. No one complained or thru him under the bus until exit interviews.

There were a few times in the video where Kendricks was running or covering someone then abruptly shifted to the open guy. Smart decision making. But by then he would be trailing the receiver so in real time it looked like he had lost a couple of steps. IMO he has declined, but perhaps could be somewhat decent and an asset in a 4-3 and with a reduced salary.

Harrison Smith though just looks like he has mailed it in. And he has clearly lost a couple of steps. Cut.

Is it wrong to be a little pissed at KOC?

He hired ED on his staff. Let him run 18 games with it...where we never improved really, and when ED said he was rolling out something for the playoffs...it might have been worse.

If KOC was the boss he should have done...something.

Not wrong. He made a mistake hiring Ed, made another not forcing him to change, and another not firing him earlier when he didn't change.

Brad, you only needed to scroll back a little bit.

You knew I was on "Fire Donatell alert", and was checking every hour since Sunday. I still missed by 38 minutes.

There followed a brief discussion on replacements, a good article from Dave.

After the Vikings start out 10-2 next year, 9 wins by 1 score, the players will tell us: "We're just a new kind of fraud".

If not for grabbing Tonga, Shelley, and trading for Blacklock...it could have been worse personel wise. Having Ed still coaching probably did cost a playoff win though.

One of the interesting decisions will be on Dalvin Tomlinson....I thought he was a couple years older but he is 28.

Not sure the DC is going to matter much until the talent is upgraded.

That being said dropping Hunter into coverage was enough of Ed for me.

Also don't care for the proclaimed philosophy of "play soft coverage".

We shall see but I doubt the defense even cracks the top half of the league in one year.

Hope they keep Shelley and Tonga. The latter is an ERFA so he is easy to sign if the team wants to.

We certainly need to retain him but he's not a difference maker and would probably be nothing more than a rotational piece on a good dl. But we're far from good.

I was just about to post the same thing as Todd. In my mind I'm chalking it up to "first year head coach" mistakes. But wow - what a huge, ongoing mistake. Also his playcalling was poor. Dalvin up the middle for the 587th time? Ugh. I'm hoping he learns and grows. I have no reason to believe he won't. Then again, I have no reason to believe he will. I suppose he gets three years before we can truly evaluate his learning arc.

Holy wow I just watched the whole thing. When watching a game I tend to give benefit of the doubt to coaches - to a point. I figure there's a lot more going on than I can see yada yada yada. In this case we were just simply a disaster. I'll refer back to allowing O'Connell some first-year-learning but DAMN - did all the coaches plus the 15-or-so-assistants all just stand by and watch this??!!??!

Here's a short vid from Leber addresing the DC firing. Obviously he doesn't want to trash Donatell but he does address somethings that might interest you regarding possible improvements
