I don't understand the KC bashing everyday. Is he a top 5 QB no Is he bottom 5 QB No. Do we really think he was the biggest issue last yr?

If we got rid of him today who is are QB that talkvikes doesn't Bash next yr?

I do think they need to take some swings at backup QB next yr and hope in the next 2 yrs we could have a new starter but last yr I watched a lot of football teams that the QB looked ugly

My question is how do we put a better team on the field next yr with the hand we are dealt not the one we want?

Doubtful we will get rid of him but I like your grammar. So we have two years to TRY to find a QB. If you are happy with a QB who has one playoff win over an 11 year career, so be it.

Exactly!

That is why a cap sucking QB is an non-starter.

That is why a mobile QB on a first year contract will be huge for the Vikings!

Oh, let's not forget JJs contract followed by the Brinks truck backing up to Darrisaw's driveway.

Two things can be true at the same time: Kirk Cousins is a good quarterback who can help the #Vikings win, and Cousins is a QB very unlikely to help the Vikings reach the #SuperBowl. Do you agree or disagree with @RandBall?

---
I saw that tweet on Twitter. I didn't even look close enough to see what they wanted, clicks, audience for Randball, etc. didn't matter.

With all the get rid of Cousins talk on here I couldn't help it that this stupid tweet caught my eye and made me want to respond.

me: How likely would it of been to get to the SB this year - w/ Cousins - if we had a middle of the road D and not the worst D in the NFL?

me again: likely

Well thats a shocker.

Only a pure Cousins apologist wants to wait for a defense to come along and help Cousins be more successful. Forget about improvement at both defense and QB.

A middle of the road D with a middle of the road QB wont get there.

The two seasons that Kirk had a top-10 defense here in MN didn't prove very likley to reach the SB either. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/min/index.htm

13 wins and the worst def in foootball
I think I'd suck to hate like you guys do
Anyway, he'll be back; enjoy! - ha

Saying it'd suck to hate like you guys do is, LOL, pretty hateful. And oblivious.

So defensive.

I've made it clear what I like and don't like about Cousins. No hate there, just disappointment.

Really? As far as hateful comments on TalkVikes, that doesn't even register.

Well then, it must suck to be like you. In a purely TalkVikes sense.

Oh geez, come on. Did you ever deal with Danimal in his 1,000 pound bomb poster prime (actually he still is in his prime)? Or Rob Voto who would cut you to a thousand pieces? If you came in with weak shit you were going to get an unabashed massacre!

Damn those were good times!

This stuff doesn't even register... in a historically pure TalkVike sense.

Are you complaining about my toothless insults?

When I typed my post, I thought I was running amok with a flame-thrower ...

but its true, my post was completely tepid and feeble.

I'm surprised joejitsu didn't simply roll his eyes, lick his fingertips and pinch out the tiny fizzle of my insult.

I need to go home and sharpen my sticks. The next Cousins extension is going to drop soon.

Next time, I promise, I'm going to register!

i want to be able to fire cousins after this season - unless his god bestows some phucking miracle on the guy....

i'd rather have some quick-thinking, guttsy, great leader of men with an okay arm, than a wimpy, panicky, bale-out, occasional dagger thrower....

Over the last 10 years, the Minnesota Vikings have:

Taken a nobody named Adam Thielen onto their team.

Coached him up over several years and helped him become a great player.

Paid him over $65 million.

Adam Thielen, and his wife, should hold no resentment for the Minnesota Vikings.

Thats good because everybody here is worried about your timid lack of commitment …

I’m at a point of despair … that Cousins is just good enough to make regimes rise and fall over the promise of a good arm. Maybe even more, the effort he puts in to executing the coach’s plans on the field. Coaches love that shit more than anything.

I just haven’t seen anything from KAM or KOC that leads me to believe they are not afraid of the one or two year failure of developing a new guy for much higher long-term results … versus the insurance of a warm fuzzy womb of okay success with Cousins. I view them like a lot of people in here, the paralysis of ‘no guarantee’ of finding the right QB is enough to lay on the ground bloated with our legs sticking up playoff time, year after year.

I don’t see them making the difficult decisions to transform the franchise … they want to squeeze the most out what they have because we’re all buddies here working together. They are augmentors, not transformers.

I am resigned to seeing Cousins here for 2 more seasons at the least.Maybe next tegime.

As far as Kwesi, it's still early. The code he's been working on to analyze NFL success is a work in progress. Going into this year's draft, a few of his edits for evaluating prospects include:

-- Deduct points if player has an injury history
-- Add points if player can contribute to strength in the trenches
-- Add points for mobility in a QB prospect

On overall draft strategy:

-- Ask for much more when approached regarding trade downs

In a few years, he'll be hitting on all cylinders, KC will be a distant memory, and it's off to the races.

The minute they extended Cousins, it signaled they were content to tread water and flounder. The extra cap meant nothing. They signed Harrison Phillips and some filler, big whoop. There was no way they were going to seriously compete with Cousins at the helm. Once he gets that stupid upside-down grin while he's trying to process another 3-and-out, you know it's all over.

There is a reason why Washington fans were ecstatic when Cousins left. Rinse repeat here, if Kwesi ever does the right thing and lets go of his binky.

Do you mean those are the things he should have learned? Cause he is 0-4 on them so far:
- Loves to sign players with injury histories, points or no points deducted.
- Trench acquisitions were bowled over.
- QB mobility, lol.

- Ask for more on trades... the Lions are still laughing.

In a few years this and that? Pure rah rah, which is occasionally fine, but doesn't reflect reality. Outside of trading for Hock, he hasn't made a decision that has moved the needle. We need doubles, some triples, and something to at least show he can hit an occasional home run. He's had pop-fly's and grounders to short, and a single in Shelley.

With his emphasis on collaboration (even with division rivals), he has transferable skills. Maybe a position in human resources.

Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out, bitch.

As he didn't have much frontline experience, it seems reasonable to expect a bit of a learning curve. In commodity trading (his former career), you don't last long at all if you don't learn quickly from your mistakes.

Yes, that's true. Successful commodities traders don't go back to school and switch careers. But 8 years is an eternity as a commodities trader, educated guess would be >90th percentile. Suggests he's a quick learner. Does it translate at all to his current job? I hope so.

I think the next 4-5 weeks will tell us all more about Kwesi and the state of the franchise ...

than the last full calendar year. Obviously free agency and the draft are huge but there's some foundation building that has to happen first.

Last offseason's 'Hold Fast' mantra won't work this offseason.

At least I hope there will be some headway made in cleaning up cap room / dealing with veteran contracts to reflect return on investment.

We went 13-5 with training wheels which was, for the most part, a lot of fun.

Expectations exceeded by far ... until the playoffs. Then summarily reaffirmed ... we can be very average.

I'm dying to see what happens before FA and the draft. Hope the Wilfs keep their mouth closed, hope Kwesi makes some broad sweeping unexpected changes.

But I'm not holding my breath.

The pessimist in me says they will restructure Kirk and a year or 2, and then do that and keep Smith, Zed and Theilen, maybe trade Hunter.

But I expect at least one surprise, like the Hock trade last year. Maybe a trade for a CB ?

hunter is the only one in that group with upside, and he has a $13mm cap hit in 2023...I think that kwesi reworks hunter's deal after he gets the roster settled, and he knows where he's at financially....

Wish we knew the philosophy for the defense, but it will all be apparent in a month. Outright cuts vs. restructures. Hanging on to vets who at least know how to play even though their ability is declining vs. plugging in a bunch of low tier FAs, 2nd year players, and draft picks.

Spitballing, Flores believes he was done wrong as a HC and wants to get back in to that world. He has already made it known he does not want to go through a total rebuild from scratch. He therefore will want to keep as many of the vets (with reduced cap hits) as necessary to achieve the best outcome this year while ignoring subsequent years, on-field player development, etc.
