To throw a little kindling on the love for Kirk around here from Michael Rand at the Strib:

The Vikings have had Cousins for five seasons and have already had three rounds of negotiations. What they have never had: leverage.

But in a twist on the relationship so far, the determination about Cousins' future with the Vikings this offseason might evolve into a more level playing field in which both sides have leverage in negotiations.

To this point, that hasn't been the case. To what extent the Vikings are able to create that leverage will be determined in the next handful of days. And how hard they work to create cap space without doing another Cousins extension could tell us a lot about how they feel about their future with the quarterback

That would be unexpected---any draft pick would be great.

At least the rumor-mongering today is more upbeat than the vicious snakepit from yesterday.

Cook and Thielen gone, as much as I appreciate what they've done, would be good news from the team.

If Thielen gets released the biggest thing he'll have going for him is that there isn't jack-squat out there in the WR free agent market. I doubt that Thielen has the clout to pick where he goes though. Actually, let me rephrase that - Thielen doesn't have the clout to pick where he goes. Too old and too slow - terrible separation.

A few injury updates today from Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell:

1/ Lewis Cine (compound fracture in left leg) has progressed to the point where he could "potentially" be part of OTAs in May, O'Connell said.
12:11 PM · Mar 9, 2023
2/ Andrew Booth Jr. (left meniscus) is on track to participate in OTAs on a limited basis and then be full-go in training camp.

3/ Brian O'Neill (right Achilles) isn't likely to do much in OTAs but should be ready for training camp.

On a response to Doogie's tweet there was a comment from someone that has good sources that Cook has a 60% chance of staying with the Vikes.

We have to approach FA and Draft like Booth will not be available.

I'd love to be wrong but it feels like he'll be NA or limited throughout his career.

We'll keep trying until next year and then he'll be cut

I think Dantzler is a year closer to being cut than Booth....it was his first year.

Sorry to say this, but the one move for the Vikings that would have me the most excited, would be if they traded Kirk.

I feel like the window closed, and with his huge contract, not much chance they will put together a SB team around him in the next few years.

Flores gives some hope of the defense turning around quickly. I feel like KOC was the right hire, but am still skeptical on Kwesi.

Why are you sorry to say it? It's only me and a half another guy that care to keep him.

There's a lot of Cousins supporters out there. Reddit for example is chalked full of them.

One thing, actually a few things some posters are forgetting:
1) JJeff contract won't be signed until QB situation is stable (1 or 2 year extension or until it is stable/settled).
2) Kirk is stability
3) JJ has had great years with Kirk and his goal is to break the receiving record.

Careful what you wish for (especially if you want to keep Jefferson).

I'd sign Cousins to a 5 year extension if...

It was 20 million a year with 5 mil for a playoff appearance, 5 mil for a win, 10 mil for a SB appearance, and 10 more for a win.

We've paid him a kajillion $'s for almost nothing.

And when he doesn't find the success he thinks he'll have elsewhere and is released before earning his next contract he and his wife can question their decision not to stay home.

Well...yeah.

Booth has played 105 career defensive snaps. That's about 1.5 games for a starter.

Dantzler has 1792.

Dantzler will be on his 4th year; last year of his contract and missed games....like I said he may be gone before Booth for the simple fact next year is his fourth year and he has had issues staying healthy just like Booth.
