Defense finally played a good game. Lots of pressure and mostly solid tackling all the way around. AZ offense is not bad and they played a bit desperate.

Offense is an issue because Cousins is Cousins. That will be what ultimately kills the 2022 Vikings.

100% agree. The two best teams in the NFC are Philly and San Francisco.........hands down. The Vikings, Cowboys, Giants, Seahawks etc... are a ways back.

Yep, I said it. San Francisco is far better than the Vikings. The pickup of McCaffrey was huge and they are going to get healthy at some point. Elite stars all over the field when healthy.

It is still early but it may be a little too early on the SF call. I watched them against KC. Philly, Buffalo, and KC are in their own class.

I personally see nothing special about either Philly or San Fran. If we had just bothered scoring on a couple of the possessions we got deep in Philly territory we could have won that game. We shot ourselves in both feet that game.

I'm sure the Eagles view us as nothing special considering they smashed us. I think we have as good a shot as any in the NFC. Curious to see how we fare against Buffalo and Dallas.

I was going to say, getting 6 kinds of dog maneur kicked out of us by a team that is nothing special, isn't a good thing.

How many times were we on their side of the filed with a good chance to score only to shoot ourselves in the foot. That would never happen again. I think we're better than them.

We're doing great. We don't have $. We have limited draft capital.

I say a smart GM stands pat.

Looks like Kwesi isn't smart. I think Irv was just starting to come around. I don't like the move.

Just starting to come around while being out 8 to 10 weeks? Irv sucks.

Would you be happy to get him late in the 2nd round of the draft?

I would.

he doesn't come with a 4-year rookie deal....

Eggzactly. But he is more ready to contribute immediately than a rookie and that is a big plus.

In general, I don't like giving up 1st or 2nd round picks...

However, I think if they let Hockensen walk... they'd probably be in line for a 3rd compensatory... so the deal does make some sense.

Maybe he can take this offense to another level...

I didn't realize Irv "Raonall" Smith was out for a few weeks - again.

Now I love the trade.

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter
Vikings’ TE Irv Smith Jr. suffered a high ankle-sprain on Sunday vs. Cardinals and is expected to miss multiple weeks. So Minnesota now lands TE T.J. Hockenson.

It makes more sense now, but we should have included Irv in the deal and not given up the third round pick.

He will finish playing 7 more games than he did last year...so that's...something?

7 games, 22 receptions, 168 yards (7.6 Y/R), 2 TDs. 66.7 Catch%.

Hock had more yards and as many TDs in a single game this year.

7 games, 26 receptions, 395 yards (15.2 Y/R), 3 TDs. 75 Catch%.

Unless Irv pulls a Willis Reed and comes back for the Playoffs, he's likely played his last game in purple.

He's under contract for next year.

LOL, and in the past 4 games Hockenson tripled Smith's yards. In two of those games, Hock averaged 22+ ypc and 26+ ypc.

Smith cannot block, he drops passes, he cannot get separation, and he is usually injured. Other than that, he is a fine TE.

Dan Schneier
@DanSchneierNFL
T.J. Hockenson is one of the only two-way TEs in the NFL basically.
Is he elite at blocking or receiving? Probably not, but the #Lions barely got anything back for him. They get a 2 and 3, but also send back two 4s and the #Vikings picks will be later in each round.
Weird trade.

Luke Inman@Luke_Spinman
Vikings 2023 Draft Picks
1st
3rd
4th (Detroit's.. Likely top-3 pick)
5th
6th
(Projected 2 additional sixths in comp picks)
Not as bad as it feels after Hockenson trade honestly

Now that I know about the Irv Smith Injury we pretty much had to make this deal and I now consider it good.

The best thing about Irv is he's a UFA next year.

I didn't know about that when I made the post you replied to. I now consider the deal one we had to make and we didn't get raped on the compensation. Good deal.

I saw a comment that we were expected to have Cooks before the deadline passed. Did getting Hockenson end that or might we still get Cooks?

Good thing I'm just a dumb fan.

Great move! Kwesi did well for value. Maybe doing Detroit a solid in the draft came back around.

if kwesi is close, and houston agrees to pick up some salary it could happen...maybe we use this trade to bluff houston a little closer to our side....

UPDATE: The 2024 conditional fourth-round pick that the Lions are sending the Vikings along with Hockenson will become a fifth-round pick if the Vikings win a playoff game.

CBS.com - Hockenson top TE in league this year with 15.3 yds/reception. Vikings TEs dead last at 7.3.

So at worst we get a 4th and a 5th. I prefer that to getting both 4ths considering it means we have advanced in the playoffs.

One thing to consider is the team that knows Hockenson best is the team that was willing to let him go.

Vikings’ TE Irv Smith Jr. suffered a high ankle-sprain on Sunday vs. Cardinals and is expected to miss multiple weeks. So Minnesota now lands TE T.J. Hockenson.

Perfect nickname for him. He's becoming as unreliable as our kicking game...

This is the kind of move by Kwesi that impresses me.

Targeting a young, very good player on a team that is unlikely going to be able to keep him.

Lions are the worst team in the NFL. What are they going to do with a 9M TE that they probably were unable to extend to a more friendly deal?

And by trading for him now, we get to kick the tires before deciding on what kind of extension we want to offer.

Worst case, we have him for 1.5 years.
